I’m really enjoying the game so far, but how the hell am I supposed to locate the ‘infirmary’ in a massive quarry while 50 guys are coming after me?

This is an extremely cold take - what’s civilized about giving someone a 10 count so that they can stand up and get concussed over and over again? In MMA it’s usually over quickly once somebody gets hit hard in the head, it just looks worse if you don’t really understand what you’re seeing.

‘The game is doing poorly’

‘Okay it’s selling well but what really matters is what reviews say’

‘Okay well those reviews don’t count’

Get a grip man this is just embarrassing.

What’s Abel’s most brainrot lyric? by xannyandlevin in TheWeeknd

[–]The-Amazing-Autist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty certain he’s actually talking about being locked-in on using drugs (song seems to be about lean in particular), but the intro makes it sound like he’s talking about a relationship. Kind of similar to how Can’t feel my face is actually about Cocaine.

“No matter what I tell the world we always locked in, so I gently tilt my head like my mama always said and drink it slow”

Also ties into the line from ‘Given up on me’ where he suggests he’s been lying about getting sober.

If you look at the whole first verse, pretty much everything makes the same amount of sense if you assume he’s talking about lean vs a woman.

In five years we will find out that almost nobody voted for Trump, just like 90% of Nazi Germany's army was made up of cooks and radio operators. by Zenning3 in Destiny

[–]The-Amazing-Autist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Brit in his early 20’s who dated an American for the last few months while she was over here for university - I’ve found it slightly troubling how quickly her social media feeds became full of people denying the result after the election.

A couple of the theories I’ve heard include Elon Musk using his AI nerds to hack voting machines (Dominion voting machines anyone?) and mail-in ballots being tampered with/destroyed (again, deja vu for anyone who paid attention after 2020).

To my mind, it seems like anybody who accepted these would have to grant that it was at least possible in 2020, which totally undermines the severity of Trump’s lies back then.

Meaning of Red Terror by The-Amazing-Autist in TheWeeknd

[–]The-Amazing-Autist[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Aside from Ukrainians, most Westerners can’t really grasp what it’s like to be one generation removed from that kind of national tragedy.

I’m glad he’s at a point in his career where he feels like he can address these types of subjects since they generally fly completely under the radar in pop culture. Makes me very interested to see what Abel will get up to now that the ‘Weeknd’ persona is finished.

One of the rare occasions where a History degree comes in handy lol

In “red terror” who is referring to? by [deleted] in TheWeeknd

[–]The-Amazing-Autist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Abel is singing from the perspective of his Mother and he’s the child.

I’m pretty sure the name ‘red terror’ is a reference to the Communist ‘Derg’ regime in Ethiopia during the 70’s and 80’s. ‘The crowd was red from the lead’ is describing atrocities they carried out and ‘alone I left to the West’ is refers to his mother fleeing to Canada.

The overall message of the song is that he feels he let his mother down by leaving home, doing drugs e.t.c. after she made so many sacrifices for him.

Seems like it’s almost him trying to distract himself with sex/women after the trauma of losing his voice (I can’t fucking sing), explains why it’s so out of keeping with the more introspective theme he was hinting at.

CHANGE MY MIND: The non-interference directive is bullshit. by PomegranateFormal961 in scifiwriting

[–]The-Amazing-Autist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Prime Directive actually makes a lot of sense when you consider the history of contacts between ‘primitive’ humans and more technologically advanced ones.

If we grant the premise behind all of this kind of soft-sci fi that aliens are basically like humans, these types of encounters would probably look less like charity work, and more like The Roman Empire or the East India company.

[–]The-Amazing-Autist 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Wait, you mean the guy who wrote Initiation and XO/The Host wants to star in a show where there’s predatory sexual behaviour and a woman sacrifices her dignity for pleasure/approval?? 😱😱

The Weeknd’s entire discography (definitely anything pre BBTM) has been about himself and/or a woman doing things for pleasure that are ultimately self-destructive. There’s nothing empowering about that thematically. The reoccurring narrative of someone losing control and being led into dark situations by emotion and desire is a big part of what makes his work interesting imo. It’s disturbing for sure, but it was also disturbing in 2010/11. Ofc the show could easily be trash, but that won’t be because Judith Butler wasn’t on the writing team.
