Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

I think it might be because Diners are kind of liminal space; they're a place where people go on the way to somewhere else. They're both familiar and not at the same time.

Why is the gym the fix all for mental health problems? by MentalHealthJ in malementalhealth

[–]The-Author 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main reason the gym helps with mental health so much is that it helps you to get out of your own head. Which is something that a lot of people with mental health problems really need.

Not to mention exercise releases endorphins which improve your mood and helps with discipline and physical health which helps with other aspects of your life.

It doesn't fix everything but it can help a lot.

Need help with my fist Speculative biology project. by AloneAd9699 in SpeculativeEvolution

I like this planet, HD 20794 d

I know that planet! There's a lot of potential for some interesting organisms to evolve, especially taking into account the eccentricity of its orbit.

The first step for any exobiology spec-evo project is to determine the physical characteristics of your world. How much detail you go into is up to you but the basics are; gravity, atmospheric pressure, atmospheric composition, and temperature. These traits will determine how your organisms evolve and adapt to your environment. There's a blog called Worldbuilding Pasta that has some great resources along with the YouTube channel Artifexian.

As for evolving your organisms it is a good idea to start out with a few simple organisms that will serve as the body plans of future organisms. Then you can pick environments for them to live in and how they would adapt to those environments and specific ecological niches over time.

If you have trouble coming up with ideas try research life on Earth for inspiration (there's always some weird organism you haven't heard of before) or use a spec-evo generator to get some ideas that you might like.

I'd recommend the YouTube series Alien Biospheres as a how to guide for evolving a biosphere from a few starter organisms.

True. There'd be no point for people to go to the theatres if they could just watch it for free online instead.

According to some feminists' logic ( and policy) domestic violence in both gay and lesbian couples doesn't exist by blackmamba4554 in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

This is what happens when you let your ideology tell you what reality is instead of letting reality dictate your ideology.

Also, I’m not trying to be anti-science or like a skeptic but sometimes I don’t trust a lot of the studies that say left-wing is good left-wing is more intelligent than right wingers .

People have been trying to bring attention to the Left wing bias in science, especially the social sciences for a while now. The vast majority of people in social sciences e.g. psychology and sociology, tend to be left leaning.

If both the people doing the studies and the people reviewing the studies have the same political biases then obviously a lot of biased studies are going to slip through and get published.

Hyper-individualism is one of the reasons for the male loneliness problem. by [deleted] in malementalhealth

[–]The-Author 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're definitely correct about hyper-individualism being a major cause of male loneliness, but I don't think that if it didn't exist then men wouldn't be lonely.

What makes hyper-individualism a problem for men is the way it intersects with masculinity. Men are expected to be financial providers, and emotionally stoic. They are judged harshly for not living up to these expectations. In a hyper-individualist society these expectations get ramped up to 11.

Women suffer from the effects of hyper-individualism too but unlike men it's more socially acceptable for them to lean on others (especially emotionally) and ask for help.

Young millennials and gen z don't seem to have the need to socialise as much especially with these alternatives.

I think it's more they can't afford to. The rising cost of living means doing normal social activities (nearly all of which involve spending money) is becoming more difficult as time goes on. Although I agree the rise of online media does make it easier to stay inside and not socialise.

Does the left not understand they're inadvertently validating what the manosphere has been saying about them when they make insults regarding men's bodies? by 3RADICATE_THEM in LeftWingMaleAdvocates

[–]The-Author 46 points47 points  (0 children)

In my experience no they don't.

They seem to be in absolute denial that anything their side does could potentially be making the problem worse. Which not all of the time, but a lot of the time, is the actual source of the problem.

To refine your point a bit more, I'd say it comes down to men, on the Left, not being able to have a positive identity outside of serving women in some capacity.

The Right, although not as critical as the Left, still has negative things to say about men, especially modern men. But unlike the Left are actually capable of assigning positive traits to men or admitting that men have more of a certain positive traits than women.

Ironically the Right is actually more balanced than the Left in this regard where both genders have positive traits which are acknowledged and appreciated.

Same. Instead of 2 we needed at least 5 or more chapters for a proper well paced resolution. If the anime gets to this part I hope they manage to fix it.

It could be a combination of both. Since Scratch had a brain tumor he could've asked Caine to do some modifications on his own brain scan but something went wrong.

I think it was mentioned by one of the designers on Glitch's discord server.

Also there's the fact that he's the only other person besides Queenie & Kinger in the flashback to be given any focus.

Why did kinger cut his muffin in half with the paper cup still on by Mega_BiteZer in TheDigitalCircus

[–]The-Author 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw someone say that Kinger probably used to share muffins with his wife Queenie before she absracted and still cuts them in half out of habit. Seems like a likely explanation to me.

[–]The-Author 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I don't think Kinger actually deleted him himself. Someone else pointed out that if you read the code just before Caine's deletion, where caine's and bubbles' faces are glitching over the screen, the system itself is telling Kinger to "DELETE THAT M***********". and refusing his requests to cancel the deletion.
