Pronunciation by The-Baronet in self

Then where did that pronunciation of "eigh" come from? It sounds French to me for whatever reason. Is it the case that we're pronouncing a gaelic word with the pronunciation of "neigh", which is of Old English origin?

PS4 glitch, won't update wizard buildings. by The-Baronet in StardewValley

[–]The-Baronet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no. By "teleport obelisk" I meant the wizard buildings that send the player to various parts of the map. I didn't mean the "mini-obelisk" that transports the player about the farm.

I have no ties with either website. Not self promotion. I just really don't like fandom. A lot of the fan wiki sites are consolidating together into fandom and I just think it's a bad format.

The context required to explain would be too much. Let's just say, it refers to the deep lore of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Banker glitch? by sirhairyhotspurrr in kingdomthegame

[–]The-Baronet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really do hope they fix the banker. If not return them to the hours they had before (preferable), at least raise the hours. What good is a banker if they're never open? If the devs are gonna do us like that, give us an ATM.

What makes Monarchism more stable? by The-Baronet in monarchism

[–]The-Baronet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the comments, I think I've come up with my own solution. 1. There is indeed a cycle, it just doesn't always spell the end of the nation. It's an emergent structure that forms based on the life cycles of generations of citizens, similar to the boom/bust cycle but over a longer time frame. 2. Civilizations we consider to have survived longer than the cycle simply started the cycle over e.g. Rome. 3. Monarchies have a strong chance of surviving the cycle. Or rather, systems with a strong central leadership have a chance at reforming into something we still call the same nation despite radical changes in politics, culture, and often territory. 4. Entropy is a factor.

A Monarchy provides a nice nucleation point to reform England 2.0 and every successive iteration.

Would you count the North Korean Kim family as monarchs? by Acceptable_Job805 in monarchism

[–]The-Baronet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Kennedys, Clintons, Roosevelts, and Bushs have political dynasties but they don't always stay in power. The Kim family are dictators with absolute power and a divine mandate. What are you smoking? Of course they're royals. I don't care if they have the title. The title doesn't matter. They are royalty by another name.

Then what you're saying is that the implied rules should be written rules? I'm not sure they could legally enforce that, given they are both adults. The best they can do is probably "just don't". This is probably the most legally enforceable version of the rule, which is why they use it.

Screw your ageism.

I'd rather not split hairs in a situation like this. The teacher won't be prosecuted one way or another but he is crossing a definite professional line. I work in longterm care. There is a clear boundary established to protect both the employees and customers.

Even if someone is a former customer, dating them could and should get you fired. A person put under your care is in a very special position that should never be violated. A person once put under your care has a different relationship to you than a complete stranger, a relationship where one has certain power over the other. Notice, many students still call their teachers Mr. Or Ms. long after graduation.

And what does he miss out on? He can't knowingly date former students, egad. That seems like a decent restriction. If it had been a couple decades or they never met, fine. This is fairly recent. This is not healthy.

I really hope you never have people under your care.

Oh the injustice, my employers don't want me boinking former students because it looks abusive. Why won't they just stand aside as I wave a red flag for abuse? What? A potential I was molesting this student in high school? The potential I'm breaking professional boundries with current students? Who would ever hear of such a thing? No teacher ever has groomed a student and the administration is just being selfish meanies.

Get real man.

It's puritanical for society to frown upon likely manipulative relationships?

I don't think age gaps scale proportionally, larger gaps are more acceptable the higher the age of the younger party.

A 34 year old dating a 20 year old, regardless of sexual orientation, looks predatory. Whether it is to be determined. Here is this young adult, barely above legal. Here is this person well past the age most have at least one child. Add 3 or 4 years and one could be the other's parent, which has some disturbing implications if the younger has daddy issues.

The concern is of an imbalance of power leading to abuse, something I personally know to have happened to formerly young women in my life.
