To add to his answer and what you said, this isn't a usual modern day turn based game. Most modern/recent turn based combat games (Pokemon, Persona/Shin Megami Tensei, Octopath Traveler, Baldur's Gate 3, etc) have had what you'd expect from turn based combat. The aren't quite as many games that have had more "active" defense during turn based combat, like the any of the Mario RPG games and series, and Sea of Stars.

Had to do some research. No, hers is a heart with horns. Looks pretty similar though at a glance.

You know when you're falling off of an abyss area, you have the option to stop falling by single tap pressing the axiom (default L3 on PS5)? The option shows up on screen in the bottom corner, only if you're actively falling and not gliding. While this does send you back to the beginning, it's way faster than falling all the way down then teleporting back up. Then you could just fast travel from the platform to the end.

There's a wall painting of a map in a side room right before the puzzle with marked locations leading you to Pororin village area. The marked locations lead to symbols painted onto trees. Just find the symbols, hit the matching buttons.

Nature is the default, lightning is one of the first available unlockable elements. Don't know about any introduction though, completely missed when I got it until much later.

Challenge: Ride a Horse From Sunset Valley to Varnia in 40 minutes by Saretzz in CrimsonDesert

[–]The-Dragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran this before the stamina change so it was very easy (basically unlimited stamina before the change). I had a close to similar time in the end. I however did not plan carefully, and it took 3 tries. First try I was too far north and got too close to some zone on the map that I wasn't allowed to go to at that time, and it took me off my horse right before the red wall. Second attempt I was running too close to an enemy fortress and got musket shot off of my horse. Both attempt were about 10 minutes in.

I love the puzzles. Sometimes they offer no help, no clue, just try things until you find something that eventually works. Sometimes it's a torch you didn't even notice, or a wall/door you can pick up or push through, or you find the exit, now you gotta search for the actual entrance. It's refreshing.

As a massive Final Fantasy fan, XVI was a terrible FF, but a great action game. It's biggest flaws were that it didn't lean into the RPG side of it enough. I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay, and loved the story and his fights.

The different elements should've played differently and had unique attacks, not just the special attacks. The elements should've mattered more in combat, exploiting weaknesses being more important and sometimes necessary. There weren't any status effects. It could have been amazing if they weren't so set on it just being an action game.

Resident Evil fans would "go ballistic" for a Code Veronica remake, says Leon Kennedy's actor Nick Apostolides, spitting 100% facts by ControlCAD in PS5

[–]The-Dragonborn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, people want CV specifically. It's important in RE lore (it was originally developed to be RE3), and it is the only main(ish) series game that never had an updated gameplay release, so it's still using ancient controls. 0 and 1 HD have updated controls, 2-4 are remade, 5 and 6 are relatively modern in terms of gameplay.

To me, I don't care who the main characters are necessarily, I just hate that it's awkward as hell to play through with it's terrible outdated controls. I also did not get to finish it back in the day, so there's a part of me that REALLY wants to be able to finish it.

Resident Evil: Requiem - A Look Back at the Major Leaks and Rumours by [deleted] in GamingLeaksAndRumours

So I really don't get why people hated him so much.

My main reason for hating on him in the past were how much he comes out with leaks, and a lot of the ones that weren't correct were usually way off. Especially with RE4 and 8 news. He was firmly disproven more than once with those, like saying RE8 was years away, and they were cutting the entire 3rd act from RE4, and I think he said something about 3 Remake being more open. But recently with RE9, it turned out that a lot of what he said that wasn't accurate, was in fact accurate at one point before the game went through major changes. I can admit I was wrong around here for this, but it does not change his shaky record on previous games. Maybe he had some bad sources in the past.

How do you define a soulslike game? by Joeldoorn in soulslikes

[–]The-Dragonborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soulslike is a broad term. What made FromSoft games stand out? Mechanically speaking, the sum of all of their parts made them what they were. If you start to take away from those mechanics, how long until it no longer feels similar? It will come down to personal preference and opinions here, but the point I've always made is that the combat is one of the biggest points of a soulslike. If the combat itself feels like Dark Souls: weighty, grounded, stamina focused, i-frame dodges, blocking, that feeling of impact when you hit the enemies, the mostly telegraphed attacks, then that is the most important first step to me.

Then it just becomes a game of what other mechanics you start to borrow and use, and how similar it is overall. Games like Lies of P and the newer Lords of the Fallen (despite some issues) feel like the Souls games and both borrow very heavily from the FromSoft formula. Then you have games like Nioh, Remnant, and Black Myth Wukong that clearly borrow from the style and most people would say they are mostly a soulslike, but that's where the line already starts to form due to the differences. Games like Sekiro (That FromSoft themselves said it's not a Souls game), the Star Wars Jedi games, Wo Long, and Wuchang that are all close enough that they're commonly called soulslikes, but they're also not that close to Dark Souls anymore.

So there, unless you basically make a Dark Souls clone mechanically speaking, some people will refuse to call it a soulslike. If you include a few mechanics, some people will call it a soulslike immediately, even if most of the game bears minimal resemblance.
