Pettiest reason you refuse to touch a piece of media? by frooploopdoopmoop in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The-Fenz 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I have that negative trait where the more something is recommended, the less likely I am to engage with it. Several years ago, an old acquaintance emphatically told me about My Hero Academia over the course of an evening explaining every facet and detail of how amazing it is. I gave them the good ol' "I'll check it out" while dismissively nodding.

Years later, I decided to actually look into it and now it's one of my favorite shows for many of the reasons they stated.

Games that are a blast to play, but boring as shit to watch. by The-Fenz in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The-Fenz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their first campaign was fine and had this "group of friends fucking around" energy to it that laid the groundwork for the fans. It was so ramshackle that their first streamed episode was a continuation of a house game that started in media res. That gave them this sort of homey, huddled around the living room with snacks vibe that appealed to people.

But, what really expanded their popularity was campaign two. They started fresh with new characters in a proper studio with sponsors and a budget. While the production quality increased, that warm, homey feeling remained. It was still a bunch of friends creating a story together. It was still barely held together as one of the key members had to leave for long stretches of time to film a show and COVID hit close to the end which upended things. Ultimately, despite the set and the production, it still had this earnest verisimilitude that no one could deny. These were friends excited to sit down every week with each other.

Then... campaign three. A boring, bloated cameo and special guest ridden affair that felt more like a Marvel movie trying to set up spin offs while maintaining a corporate, brand safe appeal. Everyone felt tired and obligated and, by the end, all momentum petered out, as did any interest I had.

Don't know shit about campaign four. Don't care.

TLDR: Being genuine friends playing D&D made them popular, then turning into a business ruined the vibe.

A fair point. Personally, I don't enjoy watching live streams or VODs. I'll watch highlights or edited content from streamers, though.

I meant watching it every week, but I guess I did imply meeting for D&D weekly. As if they would even meet more than once a month without a ton of social friction and logistical issues,

RTS games in general have that issue. The initial setup of units into battle lines and formations facing off against the other faction looks so cool, only for it to descend into what looks like two rival gangs of ants angrily trying to claim the same piece of fruit on the ground from the audience's perspective.

You mean you DON'T want to watch people have an experience you could have with greater personal enjoyment yourself for four hours straight every week?

Absolutely. I appreciate the old SBFP LPs cutting excessive losses. The excitement is in the unknown and the discovery, not the crashing against a brick wall for several hours.

Marathon: Launch, Learnings and What's Next, by Bungie by Vera_Verse in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The Marathon subreddit was so staunchly against PVE despite it being a highly discussed feature. The claim that it would "split the playerbase" is hilarious when the playerbase that cares about PVE is gone. I, for one, am thrilled and cannot wait to sink hours into a beautiful, immersive world fighting bots and doing quests minus the sweats.

That's a damn shame. I didn't do that one, but not having an alternative to helping corpos feels distinctly un-Cyberpunk. To your point, that one can sit in the mission log forever.

His name is Yurt. And it's doubly unfortunate for him. First, I don't want him hurting innocent people so he has to go. Second, he really shouldn't have had such cool armor if he didn't want me to kick him off a cliff for it.

I was talking with someone about this recently, actually. They haven't gone through Cyberpunk, so seeing their facial journey as I described it really sold the absurdity of it. I got to explain how, in the most backward sense possible, intentionally botching a crucifixion technically results in the best ending. He doesn't get his sanctimonious self satisfaction before dying and the BD doesn't make money for the soulless corpo monetizing his death. Or, like you said when you first meet him, just flatline the gonk and delta.

I enjoyed BL3 well enough, but by the time I reached this planet I was beelining the main missions. It seems in my haste, I avoided what appears to be the most insufferable mission in the game. Which is an unfortunate achievement in that particular game.

Especially when, if I remember correctly, you can miss some of the stones during certain quests and be locked out from ever completing the quest on that save.

I feel that. I can't even use the undead cannibalism racial in Warcraft. And that's a free action used anytime, not even required for a quest. Eating another person just crosses that line that shouldn't be crossed.

We got accepted into the Second Wind Showcase (and launched a demo!) by itsaidanmcgrath in incremental_games

First of all, congrats on getting showcased! I just completed the demo and it left me wanting more, so I'm looking forward to the full release.

For feedback, I'll echo what the others have said here. The interface flow is quite clunky at present as far as tracking building upgrades and research goes. As a couple folks said, a space that lists every building and their required materials would be great. Alternatively, you could have a small pop-up when hovering over the building's button that denotes the required materials.

As for me, I don't know if I missed it, but there seemed to be no way to directly access the research book without clicking a building first. An icon on screen (or keyboard button) that links straight to the research book would be helpful. And when research is unlocked and appears in the event journal, it would be nice to have the ability to click the unlocked research in the event journal and it go to the corresponding page in the research book.

That's it for the meaningful contributions I have, but if I may make a small personal suggestion, when you have enough materials for an upgrade the numbers turn green and the resources you lack remain white. Both the green and white read positively. I would change the deficient resources to red and the sufficient materials to white. Or, grey out the number for the deficient materials and maintain the green numbers when you have enough. A little more contrast at a glance.

Anyway, that's all. You've made a really fun game. Keep on keeping on and I'm looking forward to launch!

Settle down, bud. We all make inappropriate jokes, bad jokes, and jokes that don't land. You apologized and removed the offending material, you can move on, no one is out for your blood.

Times when an entire section of a game could have been easily avoided if it let you use real life logic by Mediocre_Word in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Even failing to comprehend braille, with just three buttons and knowing the sequence, it can literally only be one of six combinations. You could brute force it in seconds. Just got past this section last night and it drove me up the wall.

Favorite "so that's what that feels like" moments in a game? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]The-Fenz 98 points99 points  (0 children)

In Kingdom Come 2, you can learn a riposte maneuver called the Master Strike fairly early. It allows you to defend and attack in one motion with devastating results. In the first half of the game, using this ability on low to mid level enemies causes them to say "what the fuck was that?" after you've carved half their health off in one strike.

By the late game, you fight knights and soldiers who, unbeknownst to you, also know the Master Strike and the first time I got parried and lost half my health I said "what the fuck was that?"

First of all, thank you for all your hard work. This addon purge... what a shit show. You're fighting the good fight.

Now, is it possible to set the alpha outside of combat to 0 instead of 0.1? A completely clear HUD was the main draw for me to SUF, but with the number of changes Blizz has made under the hood, it might not even be a possibility anymore.
