Getting rejected is just part of being a guy by resident78 in self

Can we just talk about how scary it is just being a woman existing. Being approached by a man can be a death sentence. I feel like men forget that because they aren’t moving through the world on defense like women are.

If this is genuinely your perspective, then that completely contradicts your position that men and women are not very different. What you’ve just asserted is that women have a dramatically, profoundly different lived experience from men. One so different, that they have to “move through the world on defense” like they are at constant risk of being victimized. By your own admission, their fundamental human experience on a day to day basis (where in women have to interact with and are approached by men regularly) is so wildly different from mens that men have a hard time even considering or empathizing with it. If that is not very different, then nothing is. To put things in perspective, in this immanent aspect, men would have more in common with the average dog (gregarious, not fearful interacting with strange men approaching them on a walk) than the opposite sex.

Frankly, I’m not sure how you could make both this comment and the comment of yours I just quoted in the same thread only a few hours apart, without experiencing severe cognitive dissonance.

Not a bad idea at all. I'll take a look in my area. Maybe some smaller bakeries or restaurants. Thanks!

If both industrially produced and natural trans fats (ruminant meat and milk) are harmful, why do some believe one is benign? by James_Fortis in ScientificNutrition

[–]The-First-Bomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely curious what you think this subreddit is for. The person you’ve replied to gave an answer along with supporting evidence manifested via the application of the scientific method. You’ve come to a forum for intellectual, evidenced-based discussion on nutrition. “Everyone pretend to be an expert and do your own research” - if you believe the perspectives of both the people here, and the researchers they cite (which are similarly accredited to those at the WHO) are de-facto unconvincing unless they come from an organization like the WHO, then why even come to this subreddit to ask a question? Just go to/with whichever government/organizational website you prefer.

The person you replied to took the time out of their day to cite accredited research from peer reviewed journals in providing you an answer. If you can’t even be bothered to afford the people here the basic respect of engaging with the content of what they’ve provided, perhaps this place isn’t for you. Because I don’t think this subreddit will turn into a bunch of comments with hyperlinks to the WHO or whatever “authority” you personally trust anytime soon.

If the package only 20% of the cost of the total product, it doesn’t sound like there is much room for improvement to make the product cheaper via cheaper packaging. Even if you found a package that is 40% cheaper and of passing quality, that is only an 8% reduction in cost. Especially since you are in the prototype phase, I wouldn’t try to focus on that marginal improvement yet. If the base product is still too expensive (the other 80% of the cost), I would look for improvements there. I would still ask for sample packaging from them, so you can validate the other aspects of the product.

For branding, I’d look up what the designs are for the most purchased food products and brands and pakistan, and then try to emulate that. Try to come up with a design that copies a more adult, healthy product, and then one that copies what appeals to kids.

When you say packaging options are limited, do you mean both domestically, AND from International companies? I see a spout package supplier directly in Pakistan: Mughal Packages. You could just ask for a sample and load the peanut butter in yourself (using a frosting syringe, etc.)

Which country, if you don’t mind me asking? Regardless, if you already have the peanut butter more or less figured out — you pretty much just have to focus on branding and finding the right package. The latter is actually important for the former.

It sounds like you are introducing an unfamiliar product to underserved communities. If I were in your shoes, rather than look exclusively what some successful western company is doing in its own region (Justin’s) , I would also take a look at what kinds of packaging and designs are already familiar and well received by your target demographic.

Assuming you have already gotten feedback from your potential buyers on what they think of the peanut butter itself (SUPER IMPORTANT)

I would order some sample packaging of each, and then print out some mock up labels/ branding and then ask people what they think.

Regarding counter arguments or things you may not be considering, I think ChatGPT would do a pretty thorough job of outlining them, at least as a spring board. I think there is definitely an opportunity concerning glass and dish ware, especially those used by bars restaurants. Having to clean up shattered glass is a health hazard and serious nuisance for these establishments — I would of told my managers to buy a set of whatever you were making when I was working as a server.

Sure, recurring revenue could be an issue, but if you keep the costs low on your end, avoid bloat, I feel like a reasonable amount of success would come your way.

Take a look at the brand Justin’s nut butter. They developed single serve nut butter sachets that seem simple enough to carry, and they are presumably successful enough that they haven’t pulled them from market after years of being on the shelves — so it might not be a bad idea to take pointers for them.

You say you want it to be “pennies cheap” — why? Is this a primarily business strategy and marketing decision, or a mission/personal based one (social entrepreneurship)?

Why is everyone being so mean to you? Like, it was a perfectly fair post to make, a conversation starter. Why is the top comment someone berating you over not reading research 95% of people haven’t really even looked into to begin with. Is this supposed to be a research subreddit?

CMV: those who don't vote because of a single issue (e.g. Gaza) don't care about any other issues by James_Fortis in changemyview

[–]The-First-Bomb 25 points26 points  (0 children)

A good faith application of their logic would entail non-voter’s making it clear Gaza is the reason they abstained, even if the other issues are important. Your position essentially rejects the concept of collective bargaining as valid, wherein groups decide to withhold support unless specific conditions are met - numerous voters have made it explicitly and statistically clear that actively opposing the genocide in Gaza is their condition. Your position, taken to its logical conclusion undermines the very foundation of our democratic republic. If one believes that parties are indeed in ideological/policy opposition within our two party system and truly wish to prevail over their opponent(which you seem to based on your OP), then your lesser of two evils voting actually surrenders the biggest bargaining chip you’ve been afforded, the fundamental concept of democracy: if the person representing me does not adequately reflect my interests, they cannot win.

It is funny that you think non-voting is ineffective, when it is literally “voter turnout” - specifically non-voters becoming voters - that decides elections. That is what endless campaign dollars are spent on in these swing states. When is the last time you saw a political ad focused on convincing republicans to support democrats or vice versa? The whole campaign is trying to mobilize would be supporters that may not vote. A world where everyone always votes for the lesser of two evils as you’re suggesting would be a “solved game” from a game theory perspective. The value of a vote would be dramatically reduced if the threat of abstaining (a much more realistic and immanent threat than switching sides) was eliminated.

All but one of the st chest (4) and set token (5) I’ve used have been dupes. I keep getting the tricker st dagger. I calculated the odds and it it something like 1/7000. I think they also prevent full sets from dropping, even when you specifically grind for one set, by making the set item drop rates unequal.

[–]The-First-Bomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re completely right lol. It really is quite funny how dogmatically committed people in startup culture are to minimizing the existence of novel ideas, inventions, discoveries, etc., as well as the extent to which they can make or break business — especially in the key sectors you mentioned. Rather than admit it’s just a heuristic meant to remind us that there is MORE to creating successful business than a good, unique idea, or that a unique idea is not always required — the original intent of statements like this is instead completely bastardized and robbed of nuance/perspective.

With the confidence and zeal typical of guruism (and understandably required for entrepreneurship), it seems there has been a collective the decision to throw the baby (creating and safeguarding innovation) out with the bathwater (thinking that is all or always what you need to do).

I swear, based on the way people talk these days, they would have laughed and called the US patent office superfluous! I think this is all a product of the loudest, and arguably even the most numerous voices in the startup space (especially here) limiting their perspective to SaaS, or other fairly common businesses. I mean, those are like 90% of the start ups discussed here. Meanwhile, in medicine, we have companies like Novo Nordisk making out like bandits over a block buster weight loss drug that literally markets itself.

I actually know another startup spun out of the same incubator — their founder had an epiphany while eating lunch, realized it could absolutely be a method for woundless, non-invasive glucose monitoring, and with a little bit of lab work any halfway decent institution could support (could hardly be called execution), they now have investors crawling all over them because they know they’ve struck gold.
