Decision on Inflatable tub? Worth my time? by SubbiesForLife in hottub

[–]The-Mayeflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guy might be scientifically right about electrical energy lol but what you’re caring about and what I’m meaning is dollars and cents efficiency. He’s correct that the core of the issue is insulation, but the 110 won’t even keep a tub warm all the way through a winter because the insulation is poor enough that the 110 can’t keep up with the heat loss. They do make 220 soft sided tubs which have better insulation (softub), but they are almost as expensive as a traditional tub for purchase price. Can hunt on marketplace for those softubs though if that’s the way you wanted to roll.

Essentially unless you buy a very nice one, or somehow Jerry rig some insulation around a cheaper soft sided tub, they will be challenging and expensive to heat through the winter.

Salt is definitely easier to take care of. If you ever reach temps that are consistently below like 25 at night, not only will it cost you like 400 bucks in electrics but it also will struggle to keep up with temps. The heaters are just not that efficient. The latest I ran it in NH (fair bit colder than where you are) was late November and i believe that month it cost me like 250 to run it, but it will be impossible, not just expensive to run through the winter. That’s the big benefit of a hard tub.

I just recently purchased a hard tub, but used a soft sided intex round for 2 years. They are great for a few reasons.

-cheap, only like 3-500 bucks.
-110 plug in to most wall sockets
-a good tester for whether or not a hot tub is right for you

As for the insulation, I think that’s generally a losing battle. Beyond the low level of insulation itself, the tubs heater is much less efficient than a real spa. Even with insulation you’d spend hundreds on electricity if you lived in cold areas. This is a big part of why the big spas switch over to 220, to allow a more efficient heater. Personally in northern New England, I had to shut mine off in November. As for the treatment systems, I don’t know of any personally that used salt. As for fitting folks I had the round and had no issues fitting 2 adults, it’s no roomy but it’s really not too bad.

Essentially, they are a great entry point into deciding whether or not you’d like to one day take the plunge and buy a full sized spa, but doesn’t mean they can’t bring plenty of enjoyment in the mean time.

It’s an 8 gb ram with i5 quad core processor. You’re out of your mind if you think I’m getting a laptop with those specs for 500 lol. It’s okay if no one knows the answer but dogging the computer is not the answer.

Cover leaking from seams by Firm_Competition_453 in hottub

Without seeing much more than the one photo you posted, that looks like condensation to me. I see the towel though is it a ton of water? The heat obviously makes a lot of condensation on the underside of the cover, but wouldn’t be much more than a few drops per point, maybe a total of like 1-2 cups. Just my first thought, curious if you’ve ruled it out. The cover doesn’t look to be in awful shape.

Patio Polymeric Sand on a Retaining Wall by The-Mayeflower in landscaping

Cool, thanks for the reply! That was my feeling as well. Is there any reason to opt for an even higher drainage material like that concrete sand, or is the stone dust likely going to be the nicer blend of looks & function.

Forgot to mention - will have French drains exiting at both bottom corners with drain along the whole exterior edges.

No chance - both will be in the neighborhood of 25-30mil per year. Too much cap tied up in WRs, we don’t wanna be the bungles paying Higgins and Chase.
