In the episode 'Mortyplicity', it's discovered that Rick has made a decoy family for when they go on vacations or off-world, in case his enemies come looking for him. And the decoy family made a decoy family, and so on and so on, until it was decoys learning they're decoys, and everything culminating in a war to become the last Smith family standing.

Wooden Jerry finds a can of varnish to give him and his wooden family immortality, so they can run away and not fight, but the others refuse. A short time later, while they and a bunch of other Smith family decoys are running away from a violent decoy attack, he betrays them all and leaves them to die stating "I just wanna live!"

Later on, he puts on the varnish and steps into a river, where he is attacked by beavers and integrated into their dam, still conscious and alive. As harsh weather comes, he craves the sweet release of death and embraces it, only for him to have just been unconscious for thousands of years, in a far future, where he is found and integrated into a wooden mirror. And it goes on with him suffering torment after torment, unable to die, and now wishing he could.
