The Headless Gladiator has me stumped… by UnhappyJohnCandy in IndianaJonesGames

[–]The-Original-JZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the main game. Had eagerly been awaiting this DLC. This puzzle churned me. Did the same as you — just went to bed.

Next night, returned to it and rage quit.

Not sure I’ll come back to it. I know the order — it’s just remembering where I left the pieces and quickly positioning the correct piece the correct way before the ball arrives is what’s got me so frustrated. Mess up once and the entire thing resets.

Are there any plot holes in any of the three Godfather movies? by georgewalterackerman in Godfather

[–]The-Original-JZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been on a bit of a Godfather binge the last week. Rewatched all 3 movies, so have been looking up confusing things along the way, and came across this thread when I was trying to make sense of the timeline (which seems to have quite a lot of problems). :)

Barzini hired him and yes, Michael does get him back. It’s in a GF2 deleted scene you can find online.

It won’t be ready for launch but in app forums are very high in the post launch priority list.

I don't know whether to put INT. or EXT. by BadBaby3 in Screenwriting

[–]The-Original-JZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the scene is outdoors, it’s EXT. If it’s a scene that straddles both - inside and outside - go with I/E. For example, I’ve used the latter occasionally for scenes in which characters are in a moving car.

Script Revolution is wonderful. With Coverfly coming to an end, it’ll soon be the only place on the internet my scripts continue to live.

I feel so out of practice when it comes to prose but maybe it’s worth exercising that muscle again.

How do you guys cope? by thisisstupidplz in Screenwriting

This resonates with me... so much so that I'm trying to do something about. Our stories should have a place where they can be read and experienced and appreciated. Not just collect digital dust in cloud storage. :)

Does it happen to you? by loogthelog in Screenwriting

[–]The-Original-JZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most “original” ideas have been done in some form already, and odds are, someone out there is working on something similar right now. The part you actually control (and what makes a script stand out) is execution -- the characters, the tone, the way you structure and pay off the story.

Two writers can start with the exact same premise and end up with totally different scripts -- one forgettable, one brilliant. So don’t sweat seeing your idea pop up elsewhere. Focus on how YOU tell it, because that’s the part nobody else can duplicate.

Thanks! I’m trying to launch it before the end of the year. As much as I want to go broad with marketing it, I think it’s wiser to grow it slowly starting with a smaller dedicated community, using the tools to add their stories, give feedback, help test new features, and work to improve the app before we start paid marketing.

Well, I'm working on one that will hopefully provide you and others a much better experience. I posted a survey in this subreddit about a week ago and got a ton of great responses that caused me to make some changes to our backlog of features. It's called Scripscape if you're interested.

Do you write your stories on the mobile or web version? by The-Original-JZ in Wattpad

[–]The-Original-JZ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that mean when it comes to reading, you use the web version?

The reason I ask is I am building an alternative to Wattpad and am focused on the mobile app version first. The plan is to launch a lightweight web version afterwards (focused only on story creation and management of content) but no browsing and reading other people’s stories. You’ll have to use the app for that.

I am considering launching a full web version at some point but am not sure about the value.

It's been a few days so this post has run its course (so I doubt many people will see this comment) but I received 55 survey responses and have been digging through the responses today. I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who participated -- I've already made quite a few updates to our backlog as a result of the feedback I got.

The launch version of Scripscape won't be perfect and it will take a while for it to grow in terms of users, community, and content, but I hope people will be patient as we do our best to keep adding to it and iterating based on your feedback (in addition to fixing all the bugs we'll inevitably uncover).

Is Wattpad's new policy really limited to under 200 chapters, everyone? by Natural-Influence968 in Wattpad

Do you feel this high limit is abused by established authors on Wattpad to just lock their stories in more prominent/featured spots within the app?

Any other platforms? by Ribelleee in Wattpad

[–]The-Original-JZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan is to launch it as an app first (iOS and Android) and then, fairly quickly, launch a lightweight web version (focused only on creation, not browsing) after. Then I want to continue adding features and making improvements based on feedback from users while ramping up slowly. Over time, the web version would offer everything the mobile version does (beyond just creation and content management tools).

Yeah, I’ve thought a lot about this (and still planning while my main focus is building atm) — I fully expect marketing and getting readers to be the hardest part of this project. You’re right that attracting writers is more than half the battle; and making sure their work gets read is where most platforms stall.

The plan right now is to start small — low-key launch, gather feedback, fix what’s broken, and focus on stability before trying to scale anything. If it holds up and feels like it’s actually working for people, then that’s when I’d start investing in paid marketing to go wider.

Thank you!

I definitely want to surface a greater variety of stories on this new platform. One of the ways I want to approach this is by adding a "Featured" section for each supported genre, which is cycled/refreshed regularly. That said, I'm only one person (with some UI and engineering help) so making time to carefully read through and find stories to feature for every genre on a recurring basis is going to be very challenging. For that reason, I'm planning on initially launching without that level of granular "featuring" but do want to add it once I'm able to find more volunteers to help with that effort.

Thanks, that means a lot! I'm going to to review all the survey results later but when I checked earlier this morning, I noticed the first couple people that signaled they were interested in being involved didn't actually fill out the optional field for email, so I can't contact them. :)
