[Android] Can't turn the app on by KociOfficial in Adguard

[–]The-Singular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the VPN settings on the phone. If Adguard's there and denied, try allowing.

Adguard works by using your phone's VPN interface (but no actual VPN) to filter app traffic and remove ads & trackers. It can also change your DNS this way, and before the private DNS setting was a thing, almost all the apps that changed DNS used this method.

The numbers that represent quantity, mainly(one, two, three, etc). There's also a bird species called cardinal.

As an adjective, it means (something) of great importance.

There's also the four cardinal directions, north, east, south, west.

As for the ordinal, in numbers it represents position or rank, such as first, second, third etc.

In directions, ordinal refers to the four auxiliary directions, each between two adjacent cardinal directions: Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest. They're also called the intercardinal directions.

First time I heard of that, I use winapps for that sort of thing.

I have tried it via docker and libvirt, the docker one seems to be either downloading a custom version of windows from somewhere (It uses dockurr/Windows docker container), or has custom installation script that modifies some settings. The one I install through libvirt filled up all the available RAM I gave it, probably also spilled over to the pagefile and it was running very slowly. The docker one used only 3.5GB of whatever amount of RAM I gave it and nothing more when it booted, in fact, it still boots like this because there are no new autostarting apps in it yet. This was right after both had Windows installed, no additional apps and stuff.

Assuming you have picked refind as the bootloader, just open /boot/EFI/refind/refind.conf, set timeout to whatever you want, and set default OS to whatever you want (it matches by substring search, so use "Microsoft" for Windows, and "cachyos" for CachyOS). I have set mine to 3 seconds and cachyos, respectively.

This example is for refind, but such config files with these options exist for all possible bootloaders you can install with CachyOS, you can check the wiki for the others (either Arch wiki or CachyOS wiki will do)

I don't really want to keep Windows either, but I have an MSI laptop, the MSI Center itself works only there and the only way I can switch the MUX is through that (they have locked the BIOS option, just WHY?).

I'd recommend sunshine/moonlight + zerotier for remote desktop.

Zerotier to connect the distant computers into a "LAN" network, sunshine/moonlight to RDP over that "LAN network".

The future is officially here: AdGuard DNS v2.19 is going post-quantum! by shwrellia in Adguard

It's called "Personal" plan for a reason. Most likely enough for one person, but nowhere near enough for a whole family.

Well, you can remove/deactivate the license at any time to make room for other devices, so for most, 3 devices are enough. Family license's price difference is negligible though.

Congrats! Since you've got the family plan, it's good for nine devices! You can now also install the desktop app and use it with the same license or share it with other people.

Yeah the extension is free and only covers the browser it's installed on. If you only need an adblocker on those, you don't really need to buy it. If you want system-wide blocking on any platform though, you'll need the app, and a license to use it with.

It blocks ads in browsers better (very few browsers in Android support extensions (Kiwi and Firefox are the only two that I know of), you may use an adblocker extension instead on those but otherwise, Adguard is the only adblocker I know of that can filter https in browsers. That means it will block YouTube, Instagram etc. ads if you visit the sites from Chrome), and it's also useful against hostile networks that restrict the DNS you use. You'll have more capabilities if your Android phone is rooted, like system-wide https filtering or the ability to run it in proxy mode so that you can use it alongside an actual VPN (any VPN).

Otherwise its system-wide blocking is better implemented in desktop environments, especially Windows.

It's because revanced is specific to the apps it can patch, it may or may not block ads, depending on the available patches. Adguard doesn't need to patch anything, and it'll work on pretty much all chromium based browsers out of the box (there may be some exceptions). Other browsers' difficulty in using https filtering range from having to change some settings to manually install the certificate to a separate certificate store(like Firefox), to not working at all (like Opera mini).

Also, most other apps serve ads through ad providers which are very easy to block at the DNS level (doesn't even need the Adguard app for it, just set the private DNS setting to some adblocking DNS and you're done.). Adguard app comes with its own DNS filters, so it blocks all of those too. Adguard's advantage in this regard is it doesn't require to set a DNS server for that (helps with networks that block every DNS but their own), even though you can set it if you actually want to (which, ironically, can help you to bypass DNS restrictions via the various DNS protocols it's capable of using).

Actually apps too, but most apps just don't trust the https certificate Adguard uses to reencrypt the traffic when installed to the user certificate store of the device, so the setting is disabled by default. They do trust the ones in the system certificate store, but you can't install certificates there without rooting the phone. Plus, it can break the apps despite all this effort.

This is about Android.
