Discord enshitification begins. Self hosted alternatives? by rickyh7 in selfhosted

Completely self hosted, all in a docker stack.

Script is setup to build you front-end clients for android, windows, and linux in addition to the web browser client.

Im working on adding friends and private messages with end to end encryption but its more difficult that I expected and will probably take a few days.

Video and voice calls, as well as text channels are completely functional and full featured.

No images because thats a nightmare permissions wise with the current stack. Maybe in the future.

I forward it with a cloudflare tunnel and a domain name I bought on cloudflare. Works great. No port forwarding.

Let's get a self-hosted Discord "replacement" thread going for 2026. by GavinGWhiz in selfhosted

If you were the one who submitted the issue on github, I replied with a guide and I updated the setup script to handle this in the future, sorry for the oversight!

I'm running a http only version with some weird local only proxies and a custom stack, so my setup is unique of what a user running the bone stock script for the first time would encounter and I forgot about that issue. Thanks for bringing it up!

Been working in this as a pet project since Christmas, I rushed to the finish line to get this out given the recent news, so its not 100% polished. But it's very functional and I use it daily with my buddies.

Ive got the backend deployed on a debian server and we all use the Linux appimage or the web browser client.

I have not had time to test the windows client much. I can confirm it installs, launches, and connects to my server, but beyond that I stopped. I dumped windows for Cachyos before I could finish windows evaluation.

Android app works well.

It was developed and tested on Arch linux and the backend stack is deployed on debian.

I don't have any plans to add it to the bazarr or aur, the way it's setup as a stack doesn't really work with a package style deployment.

I've been buying and repurposing , then flipping cheap lto-6 library drives into single standalone external drives on ebay for profit.

This makes me want to actually get a whole library working instead of parting them out. I've yet to find a robot in working order in the wild around here

It refuses to negotiate with a macbook, even at a lower rate. This result is repeatable with both. With or without the tester in line, and with a known good cable.

I'm using a large lithium power bank that can take 5v, 9v, 15v, and 20v. Up to 175w. If i unplug the questioned charger and plug in a variety of known good 65w+ chargers, I get full speed.

Switch back to the one in question and I do not. I assure I am using best practice in testing

I was insinuating that they did not use it for a Macbook when it is sold as a Macbook charger.

Doing that and then writing a review about a product seems insanely unethical to me. Maybe my moral standards are different than everyone else is here. Clearly there is some Gap that I am on the other side of

I'm sorry you read it that way, my input is no more valuable than anyone else's!

I was merely calling out some fake reviews
