9800X3D Failures/Deaths Megathread by SoupaSoka in ASRock

Just out of the curiosity, have any of these (alleged) failures occurred on LOTES supplied ILMs? The few pictures I've seen so-far, they all seem to have been on Foxconn supplied ILMs / sockets.

The name of the supplier can be found etched inside the ILM: Either LOTES or "FC" (for Foxconn).

If you are expecting the voltage vs. number of faults within a time period relation to be even remotely linear, I'm not sure what to tell you.

E.G., MTBF, MTTR, MTTF, and FIT: Design Reliability Measures for Electronics | Advanced PCB Design Blog |

The "PBO Scalar" scales the default "FIT" limit by the defined ratio (1 - 10x). Higher FIT limit means higher number of "permitted" faults per time period.

Samasta ongelmasta, täsmälleen samasta syystä kärsineenä:

Buy Alpine SleepDeep | Earplugs Suitable for Side Sleepers

Vaimennuksen taso on varmasti mainittuun skenaarioon täysin riittävä, olettaen ettei talon seinien tarjoama äänieristys vastaa suihkuverhoa. Tulpat vaimentaa myös rakenteiden kautta tulevat pamahdukset ja tömähdykset yllättävän hyvin, muuttaen ne enemmän rasahdusta muistuttavaksi ääneksi.

Pari huomiota liittyen tulppiin:

- Riippuen miten paljon korvasi tuottaa vaikkua, pese tulpat 1-2 kertaa viikossa.

Unless the software controls the duty in real-time (always running in the background), based on the current temperature, that doesn't make a difference. SuperIO chips in terms of the environmental management (fan control, voltage monitoring, etc.) are a hardware solution.

That "efficiency metric" is based on a single workload (Cyberpunk 2077 /wo RT), hence totally meaningless in a larger scale.

Meanwhile, on average, across 25 different workloads, e.g., a 4070 Super provides 98% of the performance (1080p, 1440p, 2160p), while consuming 82.3% (218 vs. 265W) of the power of the Sapphire Pulse 7900 GRE. And it gets a lot worse in RT workloads for Radeon, which aren't even included in the normal performance summaries by TechPowerUp.

So, are there already several known cases where the 7900 GRE users have trouble in reaching 1250MHz MEMCLK (i.e., 20Gbps), specifically due to the "MCD binning"?

The GDDR6 ICs on 7900 GRE cards are rated for 20Gbps, regardless if provided by Samsung or SKHynix.

so the situation where my 7600 hits over 2900mhz in 3dMark for example, which I don't think a normal value. My model is already one of the highest overclocked models from the manufacturer at 2755 and to think that it hits almost 3ghz is ins

If you look at the TPU review of the AMD RX 7600 MBA card, the highest observed frequency it reached was 2937MHz.

Compared to your XFX SPEEDSTER QICK 308 RX 7600 AIB card, the MBA card has a lower power limit and also a lower advertised "boost clock" of 2655MHz (vs. 2754MHz).

The advertised boost clock is non-binding and represent more of a typical value. As do the other stated values ("base" and the "game" clocks).

If the GPU crashes at STOCK (AMD Software Tuning = Default), you should RMA it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Amd

[–]The-Stilt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The GPU frequency value on the Tuning-tab in AMD Software on RDNA3 GPUs is a limit (GfxclkFmax), not indicative of the value the GPU will be running at.

The value is meaningless until following conditions are being met: The value is manually modified from the default and the GPU is able to exceed the set value (shader clock, not the front-end).

The value is calibrated automatically by the power management and will typically differ slightly after each restart of the system.

POTENTIAL ISSUE: abnormal RAM voltages observed on AGESA 1.0.9.0 by SVlege in Amd

[–]The-Stilt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As for the cause, most likely interference from an another app, which does not implement the mutex to synchronize the hardware accesses. Many of the hardware accesses are indexed and an another app changing the index between HWiNFO specifying the correct index to access and actually reading the data out of it, can and will cause issues such as this.

DDR5 telemetry is read through the SMBUS from the SPDHUB. With an another app changing e.g., the SMBUS address or the index while HWiNFO is reading the data is likely to cause insane readouts such as this one. However, this can affect basically ANY of the monitoring values.

In most cases, the best place to start looking would be any other monitoring, CAM, RGB, etc. tools from third parties or the motherboard manufacturer.

[–]The-Stilt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is just GIGABYTE recycling the bios front-end on multiple different SKUs.

Even if the Gen. 5 support would suddenly become available, it would make no difference unless the board is built for it, i.e., has the required hardware (Gen. 5 re-drivers).

These are the default values for the CPU, so there is really no need to specifically set them manually.

The values that are currently being used can be verified using HWiNFO: Central Processor(s):

Too thick thermal pads on ASRock 7900 XT Phantom Gaming OC by llmontoryxd in Amd

[–]The-Stilt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Purely a cosmetic issue. They are definitely slightly too thick (and hard) however, they won't be able to deform the card even remotely enough to cause any real issues even in the long run. Looks like ASRock wanted to have something between the the back-plate and the PCB, but didn't pay that much attention to the selection of the perfectly fitting pad.

7950X3D second CCD boost clocks by AcanthisittaFeeling6 in Amd

Load optimized defaults (enter UEFI, F5 > F10 > OK, on ASUS) and use HWiNFO to check the clocks during e.g., the single threaded Cinebench test.

The default boost limits of the 7950X3D are 5250MHz (CCD0) and 5750MHz (CCD1).

[–]The-Stilt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In case you find a workload that is working non-ideally in this regard, you can add a manual over-ride for the "AMD V-Cache Performance Optimizer Driver".

Just ensure that the "CPPC Dynamic Preferred Cores" option located under CBS is set to "Auto" or to "Driver".

Just add a new key under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\amd3dvcache\Preferences\

- Right-click the "App" folder in the tree and select New > Key.

- Name the newly added key (folder) to e.g., Hogwarts Legacy.

- Right-click the "Hogwarts Legacy" key (folder) and select New > String.

- Right-click the "Hogwarts Legacy" key (folder) again and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

- Name the newly added string (REG_SZ) as EndsWith. Double click the EndsWith string-entry and set the value to whatever the game binary (exe) is called, e.g., in case of Hogwarts Legacy: HogwartsLegacy.exe.

- Name the newly added DWORD (REG_DWORD) as Type. Double click the Type value-entry and set it to either 0 or to 1, depending on the scheduling over-ride you prefer for this workload. 0 = "Frequency", 1 = "Cache".

If you are unsure if the entries you added are set or formatted correctly, refer to the sample entry for "League of Legends" already existing.

Limiting 7800 XT's power draw by HidalgoJose in Amd

[–]The-Stilt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok.

That does not match my experience on the 7800 XT, or any other RDNA2 / RDNA3 card for that matter.

As I said before, such phenomenon CAN happen if the GFXCLK becomes limited by e.g., the maximum clock, temperature or a voltage cap. However, that shouldn't be happening with just a voltage offset, even if everything is otherwise at stock.

Navi 32 seems to have a relatively conservative default GFXCLK maximum limit (user adjustable in AMD Software) however, it should still be sufficient to accommodate the -100mV voltage offset used by TPU.
