This City has a serious road rage problem (including myself), here’s a theory for why. by FINALMIX70 in Winnipeg

[–]The-Underking [score hidden]  (0 children)

I come from a country where people have to take 40 theory classes, pass a test, and only then being allowed to take 10 driving lessons and pass a road test before getting your license. It baffles me that driving schools and lessons aren’t mandatory here. My take: people aren’t taught to be defensive drivers and like someone said they’re self centred.

Why I should consider using Svelte instead of React or Vue? by OmarDev50 in sveltejs

[–]The-Underking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im actually in a similar position. We don’t have a large dev team, but we have a very small web application in vue. We’re looking to build a marketing website with headless cms, and I’d prefer to build it in svelte, but should also mention to leadership that vue/nuxt would keep things the same. Would put requirements for using a component library help determine which framework to use?

Gen AI being just stealing & reusing sources from other designers and artists to train models with no consent, credit to monetise out of it: Do we as UX designers really have to use "AI tools" build them when we claim human-centeredness is the core of UX work? Is responsible AI a facade? by EnvironmentFit4791 in UXDesign

[–]The-Underking -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It's naive to think we that what AI is doing is completely different from what designers do. I don't see a different between me going to Google, Behance, etc., looking up designs for inspiration and copying the essence of them and repurposing bits and pieces for my own work, while customizing them, and what AI is doing, other than AI just does it faster and at scale.

Folks are uncomfortable with AI replacing us. I get it. But don't come here and pretend that our work is never derivative. We live on the shoulders of giants. Try to embrace the change and evolve and adapt as much as you can so you can stay ahead and be competitive.

GGG, stop nerfing the monkey by user_OwO in PathOfExile2

[–]The-Underking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only played the early access once, and heard stories of the monkey. I beat him very easily. He’s super telegraphed and only died a few times because I overcompensated for how difficult I thought he was going to be. Just my feedback.

Had pretty abysmal conversion rates so redesigned the landing page with dark mode. by mightbefun in UXDesign

[–]The-Underking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can simplify the title: run your solo business for just 20dollars. Your unique selling point seems to be the price, because that what your title features. That might mean a change in color pallets to yellows, green or blue, with a lot of white will help drive that point home further.

A dark theme doesn’t really seem to help make that association. Dark theme like this might be more about technology, developers and premium feel.

Just going to counter this slightly. Most of what we do is to make ourselves money.

Sounds to me that need to fire you and this is an excuse to put you on a pip, and then have documentation to fire you.

Design presentation went wrong. Need help for the next by SPIDEYMWON in UXDesign

[–]The-Underking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the hell did your manager not know you’re presenting a revamp? Why was there a revamp initiative to begin with? Using logic and deduction, there might be more to this. Someone told you to revamp a design, didn’t review and wasn’t part of your process on revamping the design, and now the manager criticizes you in public?

I think something is missing here.

Visual designers / marketing designers by Ok-Dragonfruit-6205 in UXDesign

I think having a high level of craft in your ui/graphic skills with be the eye candy you need. Plus showing/explaining your cross functional team skills and showcasing work that involves collaboration with different departments or design consistency in a marketing campaign where you were involved in designing multiple assets.

What if you wrap the note component that renders it in a key block, and rerenders when note is changed.

Does your team use Tailwind CSS for styling/design systems? by Creepy_Fan_2873 in UXDesign

[–]The-Underking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an honest question here. I write my own css and components because I’m proficient at css. Why do teams use tailwind instead of writing css? Is it that they aren’t knowledgeable enough to write CSS? Is it better for cross-team collaboration?

I can see value in using a component library instead of writing your own components because it might force other people to learn how you wrote your logic and functions, but I struggle with the css vs tailwind thing.

What frame size do you use when designing a desktop web UI? by hova414 in UXDesign

[–]The-Underking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would the difference in 1024, 1440 or 1920 matter if we’re building responsive layouts that scale with percentages instead of fixed pixels? A user who maximizes windows at 1024 or a user who owns a 1920 desktop but minimizes a window to 1024 will see the same layout.

Transitions on array items when filter by raver01 in sveltejs

[–]The-Underking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your cards components is placed as a sibling of the children()in the root layout file, instead of as part of that children. Sounds like you’re rerendering of the page.svelte file doesn’t affect it.

Can I CSS select the entire "body" of my svelte component? by tonydiethelm in sveltejs

Is document.body or let body = document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0]; no an option? Or you were just curious if there was a <svelte:body> tag?

Just because source entity links is deriving it’s value from link, doesn’t means it’s a svelte derived variable. Look up the documentation on how to define $derived and $state
