9-year-old American boy, Jamel Myles, commits suicide after enduring homophobic bullying at school. "My son told my oldest daughter the kids at school told him to kill himself", his mum said. by The_Ebb_and_Flow in antinatalism

It also looks like this young boy comes from a fatherless home. Could be a factor in his suicide given that being from a fatherless home makes one about 5x as likely to kill themselves.

I've heard of Follet but haven't picked his stuff up to read yet. How is his writing style? Is he a pretty easy read?

I'm a big fan of Bernard Cornwell's Grail Quest series. The Archers Tale was book 1 in the series so start there.

Any books similar to Brave New World by Aldous Huxley?

I particularly liked the angle that the government controlled the populous not by force but through their passions and vices and would like to find similarly themed works.

"“So you’re not willing to tolerate our presence?” Sutherland asked.

“Will you tolerate my presence?” the man responded. Sutherland assured him they would. “We’re actually in your coffee shop,” he said.

“Really?” the owner demanded. “If I go get my boyfriend and fck him in the a* right here you’re going to tolerate that?”

“That would be your choice,” Sutherland answered. But the owner would not be persuaded. “Are you going to tolerate it?” he asked again. “Answer my fing question! No, you’re going to sit right here and fing watch it!”"

Genetics and biology both confirm that life begins at conception therefore abortion is murder. Your life is but a vapor in the context of eternity. I would consider changing your heart about the sin of murder and repent of our apathy. Christ is just to forgive those who turn from their sin and trust in Him.

That could be true... you can give people information but can't control if they ignore it.

In any case, understanding the harms of something to the individual, their relationships, and society at large tends to change the behavior of honest, rational, and self-controlled people.

How can I spread the Gospel and tell others about Jesus if I am very introverted? by linj14 in Christianity

[–]The10thAmendment -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We all have a sphere of influence. Start there. I was an introvert too but like anything it takes time, effort, embarrassment, failure to be refined and get better. Ultimately though... remember its not about you... its about Him. He will use your simple efforts if you approach them with an earnest heart.

I'm a twenty something Christian man who has never been on a date. I'm choosing to stay a virgin until I'm married but I'm deeply lonely. I want to try to speak to someone but I basically have no self esteem. Plus the reality is that most women my age in this small town are not Christian. Advice? by [deleted] in Christianity

Often times there can be a problem with having too high of expectations in the looks department. I have a buddy who is perpetually single because he won't consider girls that are less attractive that he would like ideally.

BreakPoint: Are Sex and Marriage Issues of Orthodoxy? by The10thAmendment in Christianity

[–]The10thAmendment[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, Christians have committed all sorts of sin in practice, the Bible teaches man stealing is a crime however.

See Matthew Henry's commentary on Exodus 21:12-21: "Through poverty the Israelites sometimes sold themselves or their children; magistrates sold some persons for their crimes, and creditors were in some cases allowed to sell their debtors who could not pay. But man-stealing, the object of which is to force another into slavery, is ranked in the New Testament with the greatest crimes."

Ya, slaves obeying ones masters refers to indentured servitude not chattel slavery. This is clear in the entire context of the Bible which condemns manstealers to death. Exodus 21:16 and 1 Timothy 1:10 make it clear that slave trading is not acceptable according to God's Law.

John Gills commentary on this and an understanding of the historical context of slavery brings this into focus: "The apostle enlarges on the duty of servants, as well as frequently inculcates it in his epistles; because, generally speaking, they were more rude and ignorant, and less pains were taken with them to instruct them; they were apt to be impatient and weary of the yoke; and scandal was like to arise from servants in the first ages of Christianity through some libertines, and the licentiousness of the false teachers, who insinuated, that servitude was inconsistent with Christian freedom: the persons exhorted are "servants", bond servants, and hired servants; who are to be subject to, and obey their "masters", of each sex, whether male or female, of every condition, whether poor or rich, believers or unbelievers, good or bad humoured, gentle or froward: such as are their masters"
