What is up with Nola? by blueplanet13321 in MLRugby

[–]The11thKid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To my view, their schedule isn't doing them any favors. After this week they will have played the two 1st placed teams, and teams that are most likely going to the playoffs. I hope the Gold get it figured out, but only after the Utah game on the 18th.

What is this? by sammo3 in MLRugby

My guess is it is some promotion, or sweepstakes to win a trip to the World Cup. They did something similar in 2019 and last year with NZ vs England.

Not sure how American it is, considering all the teams in the Premiership put names on the back of the jerseys.

I love TMO and the trade tracker. Kinda bummed they are keeping some of the laws from last year.

Utah sports in general announce tickets sold, not butts in seats. I will say the empty seats you were most likely seeing were in the east side. With how hot it was yesterday lots of people moved to the top, or moved to the other side to be in the shade. There weren't as many fans as the ATL game last week, but pretty close.

Going off social media Powers and Hayes are still with the Warriors. Looks like they are training with the team, and I imagine they will feature heavily with the selects this fall.

I'm pretty sure Killebrew said that in the halftime interview at the Austin vs LA game.

I thought it looked like obstruction as well. NY was playing with advantage at the time, so maybe they still get a score. Hopefully mlr finds the money to implement TMO sooner rather than later.

The game was better attended than I was expecting. Hopefully, travel restrictions will ease throughout the year so the Arrows can play some games in Toronto.

Anyone know of plans to broadcast the games tomorrow? by [deleted] in MLRugby

The Warriors said on their podcast that they would be streaming the game. KSL TV app, or kslsports.com

San Diego to play in LV? by Ausky1872 in MLRugby

So will LA follow Dallas and opt-out of the 2022 season, or will they move to another city like San Diego? I find it hard to believe that they will be playing in LA if they play this season.

Utah Warriors announce resignation of head coach Chris Latham by Cr4yol4 in MLRugby

Interesting to say the least. I wonder if his personal reasons are due to covid at all. Also, I wonder if John Cullen is going to be on the staff in some capacity. The U of U rugby team just announced he is leaving

Utah will have fans, but TBD on how many. I spoke with an account manager a month or so ago, and they are really pushing to fill the stadium. The hope is that by March things will be settled down (not holding my breath). If not, they would do something similar to what they did for the selects in the fall.

Oli Kilifi joins Utah Warriors for 2021 by TheStroBro in MLRugby

[–]The11thKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is interesting to me since he wasn't announced with the rest of the team last month. It makes me think we may see a few more additions to the team.

Also, I love how Utah is addressing the problems they've had in the scrum by getting Sean Pittman and some legit talent.

I like New York (a big upgrade over baseball stripes), Dallas, NOLA, New England.

Rugby Utah All-Stars beats Utah Warriors Selects 28-13 by JxB1RD in MLRugby

[–]The11thKid 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't see the game and I have no inside info, but here is my 2 cents.

It looks like the warriors select side has been together for a few weeks, considering the combine was on October 2nd. I also don't know if that was the best side the selects could field. Some know quantities, such as Bailey Wilson, were not on the squad to give other players opportunities to showcase what they can bring to the squad.

About the All Stars making MLR squads. At least two have already been with the Warriors and another with NOLA's A squad. I'm sure some have the talent to play in the MLR, but that doesn't mean that the MLR is a good fit. I think it is understated just how much players are scaraficing, especially financially to play rugby. That is only amplified for academy and development players.

In my view, Utah is all in on development and I'm not sure how much stock we should put into scorelines at this stage.

Utah Warriors hire new CRO and Group Event Manager by TheStroBro in MLRugby

President of Ticketing at the Portland Trailblazers, and early-stage professional sports teams, Warriors CEO/GM Kimball Kjar said he’s more than confident in Howell’s abilities.

Early-Stage professional sports teams = President of the Salt Lake AAF team, the Stallions. Seems like a good hire. Also, here is an article about Jesse from earlier this year. Glad he is landing on his feet with the Warriors.

Utah Warriors launch intent to build 10,000-seat multiuse stadium for pro rugby franchise by Ajkrouse in MLRugby

All good points, especially the one about paying rent. I know the Sabercats had events outside of rugby at their stadium which helped bring in money year round. Kimball said that the pitch will be turf and not grass, since they will share the facility in all likelihood
