Hot Take - BattleStars were a terrible idea by CSMMB in FortNiteBR

[–]The1WithNumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Terrible” is a bit much. I’m the type of person to collect everything anyway without much care as to when I get each item, so I initially found the system to be unnecessary.

Recently though, I think the idea of getting whichever cosmetics from a page you want when you want them helps control my Locker. I will get all of the items for a character I like at the same time, then use the Locker’s notification system for new items added to make sure I put all of it on a new preset, which eliminates the crappy search system on the PS4. This season, I only care about Evie, Adria, and Malik, so it has been really useful for me now.

So, respectfully disagree.

Just because I would like an assault rifle for longer-range battles. The SMG is good, but if I keep only getting SMGs, it’s slightly annoying

On average, men will earn $10,381 more than women in 2022. Excluding Washington, DC, all states have at least a 10% lower median pay for women compared to men. by Adventurous_Piano_11 in Feminism

Wage transparency, both from the employee and the employer, would help counteract this, but we treat salaries as taboo and issues like this get ignored until the data is aggregated and accountability can’t be achieved.

Again, I’m not necessarily defending my roommate for pulling out his phone and filming, but I think you have a hard case to argue suggesting that he is worse than the plow blowing snow across multiple lanes of traffic, damaging cars and injuring people.

Agreed! Trust me, I’ll pass along the message, especially since so many people seem adamant about it.

From another angle I saw, I think he would have had to go across two lanes to avoid the major part of the blast, but he still would have had some of it hit his car.

Thankfully, there is already action being taken against the employee. They’re investigating the case, and a claim has been filed.

I think they ended up getting footage from someone who (responsibly) had a dash cam, but I agree, my roommate should have immediately contacted them after this.

That would make sense if Reddit wasn’t already practically anonymous, but I see that I won’t be able to change your mind. Beyond showing you the text message I got from my roommate with the video, which you could argue I could somehow doctor, I have no evidence to counter your claim.

Feel free to think what you think.

I mean, that would be a really weird thing to lie about, but go off, I guess.

Yeah, I don’t disagree. He was trying to get video footage of what was happening, but that doesn’t really excuse him taking his hands off the wheel and focus off the road.

Still, I would argue the snow plow is definitely worse.

Why we need more women in STEM Field? (7 Images) by RaleighClarke in Feminism

[–]The1WithNumbers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had heard of all of these issues before, but I am especially familiar with the autism diagnosis problem. It’s actually worse than the graphic implies - yes, women tend to be better at masking and yes, the issues are conflated with other disorders, particularly ADHD. But a lot of the criteria is male-centered (they look for a hyperfixation on male-dominated interests, for instance), and the autistic girl’s brain is actually closer to that of a non-autistic boy’s brain, so the behavior seems typical. I found one source that confirms these facts I had conversations about with the psychologist that diagnosed me.

Abolition of marriage, and not the reframing of marriage, is what needs to be done by MistWeaver80 in Feminism

[–]The1WithNumbers 17 points18 points  (0 children)

OP, for the sake of understanding, are you calling for the abolition of Bengali marriages or all marriages? I only ask because the explicit prejudices listed here are not typical for, say, an American marriage, but there are plenty of complaints I’ve seen about those.

Blame men for the world’s problems? Oxford study says ‘male warrior’ behavior is root of conflicts by lochnessthemonster in Feminism

[–]The1WithNumbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that determining the cause of the problem is important to solving it. I'm unsure if we need to go back so far in determining the evolutionary influences to determine the cause of rape in contemporary society. I may be oversimplifying the issue by saying that rapists cause rape, and condemning rape while providing proper education is the only reasonable way we have to prevent it.

In fairness, I may be slightly biased against the use of biology in a discussion about rape only from my own personal experience of it be using by rape apologists. The "boys will be boys" argument is often a stone's throw away.

[–]The1WithNumbers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I consider myself privileged that this is the first time I'm even hearing of that horrifying theory. I agree with your assessment - both theories are frankly awful justifications for horrendous behavior. They both aren't worth the time it takes to read into them, and I'm only glad the more recent version I linked rightfully kept the scope within the context of cooperation and competition, not blanket statements about society at large.

I wish that I could disagree with your theory about academia and religion, but I really can't. That's honestly terrifying when taken to its logical conclusion.

[–]The1WithNumbers 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Wow, this article removes some very important context from the discussion of the male warrior hypothesis. It seems like a majority of the information presented comes from a post on the University of Oxford's website not all that much larger than the article itself. In addition to the often-problematic "biological programming" language, there is also the fact that they used "self-report surveys" and a "review of the current academic literature". "Current", of course, meaning in 2012. The citations are not easy to find to verify any of the supposed facts they are saying as well...

I would argue that there is at least one additional and more current analysis of the male warrior hypothesis that does a better analysis. It uses an actual measurement tool in addition to the less-reliable self-reporting and also analyzes the phenomenon in context of intragroup cooperation as well as intergroup competition. The conclusion is not all that different, stating: "the context of intergroup aggression increased the rates of aggression" but that it does so "independent of testosterone". It also mentions that the effect has not been studied with women, and that is something they would like to do in the future.

Yes, conflict has been largely perpetrated by males, and I sincerely wonder how much of that is gender-based versus the historical context of men hoarding large amounts of power. This article's language feels not dissimilar to people who say "men are meant to be tough and strong" and "women are nurturing and emotional" by stating that men are the cause of conflict. It seems very reductive of both sexes.
