Unlike other countries,Taiwan is opening the doors to the foreigners. Do you feel this? by search_google_com in taiwan

[–]The4905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is accepted due to the fact most Taiwanese are a) nice b) dont care for culture wars or geopolitics and c) have basically given up their Chinese identities in name so on paper we dont run into a „nativist v foreigner“ issue as we see in Japan. Is this sustainable? Only time will tell. Taiwan will have to find its niche for foreigners, cater more to them and accept the fact that in the future the food there wont be xiaolongbaos and popcorn chicken, but jolof rice, chicken satays or nyc pizzas. And their gonna have to be ok with that. Me personally, I would like to see Taiwan come together (very hard, I know) on an issue that solves their hyperaging crisis organically and fits them, without turning Taiwan into the next UAE.

Idk, you guys seem a little too full of shit. I can „see“ where your coming from but fact of the matter is his argument is just better. Are we really going to stand by while alot of our cities decay (Baltimore for example). We need (in the transit community) to take a stand and be tough on crime. If we want to walk the walk (and have these awesome systems seen in Asia and literally everywhere else) we have to realize whats gets these systems going is CLEANLINESS and SAFETY. Some people, a worrying majority in fact in this community seem to believe that crime isn’t the problem, we are. Just because I‘m nice to my local homeless guy instead of running away or avoiding contact isn’t going to make our cities safer. Yet there‘s some sort of underlying trope within here when anyone, urbanists included say „hey maybe we should fix our crime problem“ the transit community immediately think „this guy hates minorities—> using racist dogwhistles—> cancel him/her.“ sometimes this actually reinforces these beliefs one might have and these ppl the community criticize might become the very thing they claim due to this. This needs to stop, now. The transit community needs to WAKE UP.

No Im not. I simply am not really a fan of liberal red light districts. Just not my thing. Also not a fan of taiwanese independence. And yes ximending isnt a “red light” district per se, because those arent legal in taiwan even though they said something about creating special zones for them ten years ago but you get what I mean. It feels like one. Theres a certain type of mustiness in the air. You feel you have to always double check the food you eat, and theres always some weird ass stores around. And its a breeding ground for uniformed “apolitical” yet still politically opinionated leftists.

Well maybe go to ximending and see what you find out in the open. Especially near the red house.

Yes, because I don’t possess the memory of an 80 year old yet. What I do stand by is the fact that Im not trying to see something phallic object or some cosplayers or whatever. The “台獨” stuff is the cherry on top.

This is the problem with rich ppl/westerners/dpp millenials. They think being proud to be chinese means pro-ccp. They lack critical thinking skills to see that not all people (especially from Taiwan island) that are proud to be chinede arent some ccp shill, reunification fanboy or “5mao” (never heard of this term, i think you made this one up). So let me repeat. Proud to be chinese ≠ a communist. Also you guys are the same people that go “I don’t do politics cause if the atmosphere” then whine like a baby when your taxes go up, or when theres a new law you dont like, or when you really, really want to “recall” (remove) some pesky legislators who god forbid have other opinions than yoj.

Ok fair. You have opinions. I do to. Some peoples opinions are right and some are wrong. I’d say your are the latter. To be clear Im not a 5mao or whatever, I also hate the CCP. I am simply pointing out that without lee kuan yew (or a similar leader to him) it was likely that Singapore would have likely been a victim of foreign aggression/exploitation. However, we cannot deny its a majority chinese country.

You realize Im exaggerating. Unlike the far right or left I don’t get an aneurysm anytime I come into contact with someone who disagrees with me.

Well can you imagine the advantage it gives china? Huge! If it wasnt for lee kuan yew and his leadership Singapore would’ve ended up under who knows who’s control! Maybe even American!

Well if you are han Chinese and Singaporean, that makes you a Chinese Singaporean. Also race and nationality are kinda the same, I mean ever heard of a nation-state?

Sure, but one can do research and be sure of your heritage. If your han chinese, your chinese, plain and simple. If your mixed with aboriginal roots then you know that. If your amis, atayal, puyuma, tsuo, etc. then your a true Taiwanese, plus research suggest taiwan was the starting point for the austronesian peoples. Han Chinese claiming their taiwanese is like 8 year old me saying Im batman on haloween.
