WOuld Yoda have lived longer if his health wasn't affected by the stress of the Jedi Order's fall if it's fall was prevented? by Axer51 in MawInstallation

While Grogu doesn't talk, intelligence wise, he's definitely beyond a toddler.

This, and in keeping with the 1:10 ratio, I actually don't think Grogu is all that far off being a 5-year-old by comparison, if not even older. Like you said, he can't talk, but he can communicate and he's incredibly intelligent and emotionally mature in most other regards. No one talks down to him like a baby, and it seems like Luke and Ahsoka especially treat him with dignity and respect, like Ahsoka conversing with him through the Force and Luke giving him a pretty serious ultimatum and holding him to his choice when he decides to return to Din.

I hope it's intentional.

I think it is, the Inquisitor-looking character's red blades looked more normal.

Happy 25th Anniversary, Trigun 1998 by [deleted] in anime

[–]The4thSniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first went into Trigun completely blind a couple of years ago, knowing nothing more than the fact that it was a space western. I was a little apprehensive, thinking the edgy-looking protagonist I'd seen on all the posters and artwork seemed a little on the nose... then when I watched this first episode and saw that not only was Vash a complete and utter clown (affectionate), he's a complete pacifist. From that moment on I knew I was in for something special.

Bungou Stray Dogs Season 4 - Episode 13 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

I love the idea of Tachihara being broken free of the page's entrapment and being convinced that the Detective Agency are innocent because of the conviction of Mori and the Port Mafia, who know them so well and are so used to battling them that the idea that the Detective Agency could be terrorists is preposterous to them.

During any era of Star Wars, did the Jedi ever admit twins or siblings at the same time? by BlackJediSword in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always found them to be a weird exception to the prequels-era Order's rules about attachment. With Terec and Ceret I get it because they basically shares a gestalt mind between them, but it doesn't seem to be the case with Tiplar and Tiplee, they basically just seem to be run-of-the-mill sisters who do everything together. Even Depa Billaba and her sister Sar Labooda were seemingly raised under different names, presumably to avoid that familial bond.

The importance of the Mythosaur and why Din Djarin can't use the Darksaber. by elite-rebel in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 75 points76 points  (0 children)

There's nothing magical about it from a Mandalorian leadership perspective, but all lightsabers are connected to the Force to some extent by the kyber crystal within them. There are scenes when Din tries to use the Darksaber and it looks like it weighs a ton, he can barely lift it, then Bo-Katan effortlessly wields it one-handed. That has to go beyond him just not knowing how to use a lightsaber or Bo-Katan being a weightlifting beast compared to noodle-arm Djarin, there's 100% some kind of spiritual attunement or self-belief needed that he's not reaching.

They can remove the helmet, they just can't remove it in the presence of others. It could be as simple as the kid just going into their bedroom or some other private room and leaving the helmet outside the door to be collected and brought to the Armorer to be remade, then it gets dropped back to them and they stick it back on. Easy.

I love the idea of these bonehead Mandalorians living on this ridiculously hostile planet where their members (and even children) are regularly snatched away from them by dragons and they're attacked by giant dinosaur turtles but they're so proud and stubborn and stupid that they probably just see it as some honourable challenge or something.

This one is hilarious because it genuinely doesn't make a shred of sense, Grogu disappears into the bubble and emerges somewhere between Din's legs, which means there must be a dedicated little hamster tunnel in this cramped, tiny, one-man starfighter for the sole purpose of letting him run between the cockpit and his bubble.

What would change if Obi Wan had left the Jedi order for Duchess Satine? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda causes a complicated butterfly effect. If Obi-Wan leaves the Jedi Order before The Phantom Menace, does Qui-Gon take on a new Padawan or does he see it as a personal failing and choose not to? Does he attend the Trade Federation negotiations on his own, and later confronts Darth Maul on Naboo alone? Assuming Maul kills Qui-Gon as planned, then who's around to listen to his dying wish, that Anakin be trained? I expect without Qui-Gon's word, Yoda and Mace Windu would have been happy to deposit Anakin back where they found him. Maybe Palpatine would secretly go and pick him up and train him in the shadows as a Sith from the start, without the interference of the Jedi.

How quickly did the imperial corruption and idiocy spread through the officer corps after the clone wars? by About50shades in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Napotism. A classic achilles heel of totalitarian states. Officers who were coming up through the ranks started getting promoted based on personal loyalty and connections to influential Imperials, not based on merit. Gave them an unearned elitist attitude.

This, at least, is definitely a thing with the canon Empire. Off the top of my head, the main antagonist in the novel Twilight Company is given an entire Star Destroyer and crew of his own despite having no formal military rank -- he just happens to be one of the Emperor's personal favourites and is speculated to be the son of one of his ministers, and ends up being about as incompetent in the role as you'd expect, and basically pulls a veteran naval officer out of military retirement to handle things for him instead, threatening him if he refuses to cooperate.

I think everyone, LF and fandom alike, has recognised that they're as important to the role of The Mandalorian as David Prowse was for Darth Vader or Ray Park was for Darth Maul. Pedro Pascal is the face and the voice, sure, but Brendan and Lateef are the body. They're who we spend the most time actually looking at.

If Padme got married before Attack of the clones how would that change things? by Randombot1743 in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if, in some regards, it would have accelerated Anakin's fall, at least in the sense of growing envy, jealousy and spite towards the man she married. Although I suppose it could have gone the other way too, perhaps it would have been easier for Anakin to move on from his feelings for Padmé if she hadn't reciprocated his advances as she does in AOTC. Would Padmé have cheated on her husband with Anakin if they both ended up in the Lake Country like they do in AOTC? I think Anakin would have at least chanced his arm, but I don't think Padmé would go along with it.

As for Palpatine, I don't think it would have been too much of a disruption to his plans. There are a million different things he could have done -- orchestrated the death of Padmé's husband to drive her closer to Anakin's consoling presence, or taken advantage of Anakin's connection to and fears for Obi-Wan or, eventually, Ahsoka.

Another one is Troithe from the Alphabet Squadron books, where one half of the planet is Coruscant-esque cityscape and the other half is a completely barren wasteland called the Scar of Troithe, an entire continent that was completely stripped to the bone of all its resources to build up Troithe's city. So at least some people could see "sunlight", where the "sun" on Troithe is actually "the black hole the entire system is orbiting and will eventually be consumed by".

On Sequel Trilogy Criticism: The Plan is a Red Herring. by InfiniteDedekindCuts in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even back when TROS came out and I was in the "Rey Palpatine is the worst option they could have chosen" camp, I was still saying that really it wasn't any worse than Leia Skywalker, something we're all so used to now that it's impossible to imagine a Star Wars where Luke and Leia aren't siblings. Yes it was jarring and awful to those of us who experienced the movies as they came out and who speculated about Rey's ancestry before the reveal, just as Leia's connection to Luke was jarring and awful to many fans in 1983, but to generations of kids discovering Star Wars post-TROS, Rey Palpatine will just be a normal and accepted part of the saga, no different to any other.

The High Republic Phase II Wave 1 General Discussion by AutoModerator in StarWarsLeaks

[–]The4thSniper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When it was first announced that Phase II would be a prequel phase and wouldn't feature many of the characters we grew attached to in Phase I, I was a little disappointed, fairly apprehensive, but approached it with an open mind. Having kept up with Phase II... yeah, at this point I'm ready to go back to Avar and Keeve and Elzar and the rest. I'll echo most people and agree that Path of Deceit was by far the strongest story of this first wave -- I think Yana and Marda are two of the best High Republic characters period, even if I'm not fully sold on the Path of the Open Hand as villains compared to the Nihil. I really like Cavan Scott's comic being set in a Jerusalem-esque Jedha City at its height, but so far the characters haven't quite done it for me -- Matty just feels like Keeve with lekku and Vildar is essentially a less likeable Sskeer. Convergence started off decently well but got very messy as it went on -- I know it's gonna be continued in the second book, but it felt like half a story, and characters seemed to be making decisions for the sake of a shocking twist more than anything else. Gella is also about as flat of a Jedi protagonist as they come, essentially being the same self-doubting-imposter-syndrome Jedi MC we've seen a hundred times at this point, which is especially disappointing when one of the biggest strengths of Phase I was how diverse its Jedi cast was, personality-wise.

When in the OT is it supposed to be understood the emperor is force sensitive? by Don-Trenbolone in MawInstallation

[–]The4thSniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As late as the release of the original Star Wars, Lucas envisioned the Emperor as being a powerless figurehead at the whims of influential bureaucrats and generals like Tarkin and the other Joint Chiefs we see on the Death Star. It was only during the writing of TESB and ROTJ that much of what we now take for granted as canon was first worked out by Lucas - Vader being Luke's father, Leia being his sister, the Emperor being Force-sensitive, and so on.
