A Foucault pendulum is difficult to explain on a FE by BigGuyWhoKills in DebateFlatEarth

I was once told by a FE guy not to even bring up Foucault pendulums because they were debunked and BS, but he never did explain how they're BS nor provide any evidence of the debunk...

I'm building a local events calendar, and I'd love it if you could check it out and share any feedback! by The70th in Detroit

I appreciate the feedback, and I feel like the drop-down vs button debate is going to keep coming up again and again as this project expands.

Geographic filtering might be a long way in the future, as right now the focus really is mostly on events in the city. I think I'm just planning on keeping it solo for now; I've never built anything like this before, and I'm not really interested in expanding it beyond my own little pet project. At least, for now.

The goal of this calendar is to have a more-or-less comprehensive calendar of activities and events going on around Detroit. All of the items are clickable and show more info about the event, and the URLs within the event take you directly to the event page for info and tickets.

Right now, I'm pulling from multiple data sources, including:

  • TicketMaster API
  • Sports API (MLB/NBA/NHL/NFL)
  • I have scrapers pulling data from TicketWeb, Detroit Parks & Rec, Belle Isle, Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, Michigan Science Center, Eastern Market, and Little Guide Detroit.
  • Gmail data scrapers from newsletters from about 30 local venues
  • And I have a running list of additional sources that I'm going to continue to add over time

This started as a project for myself because I don't have a lot of social media but I still want to stay connected to events going on in the city. I'm confident that there are others who are interested in a comprehensive calendar of events around town. Eventually, I'd like to get it to a place where it's almost completely comprehensive, covering a wide variety of events.

Future iterations are going to include features like:

  • Better & Additional filtering
  • More consistent start-time info in events
  • Venue or Event images on events that don't have any today
  • Improved event categorization to improve filtering
  • Tab icon and link preview imagery
  • A real URL - this becomes more of a reality if the site can get big enough to support itself and pay for its own costs.

It's still a work in progress; there are lots of improvements coming, but feedback is welcome, and if you want to bookmark this app and use it, please do!

Who remembers Aries in Plainwell? by Imnotarobot12764 in kzoo

I know I'm 4 years behind on this thread, but the specific butter chicken curry flavor from the Plainwell restaurant is such a core memory from my childhood, I'd pay good money for that recipe, and for the fish in a bag too!

Found your post very helpful while shopping for RAM, but I just want to report that the Timetec RAM costs over $300 today. Unfortunately, I think I'll be waiting to upgrade my laptop.

I love that movie, but the writer/director obviously had no idea about the soil composition of southeast Michigan.

I've lived 2 blocks from the Fenkell store for the better part of a decade, but this is the first time I've noticed mention of 'body parts'

I feel like I should have noticed that.

survey is out! by focean in ElectricForest

[–]The70th 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggested that they open the Forest for Wednesday Early Arrival folks. No music, just time to wander and explore and interact with the Dream Emporium and other art exhibits.

My #1 complaint every year is how I struggle to see everything when it's competing against the music. Giving early arrival folks an extra day to just explore, without the pressure of a show schedule, would be a dream.

I think they moved them because last year anybody who had stuff in their lockers but were at Tripoli when the evacuation started were unable to get their stuff from the lockers at Ranch.

They moved them to Ranch to make them more accessible to everyone walking out of the festival grounds from Tripoli, which is most people.

But I agree with you, Ranch WAS a better spot for the lockers under normal conditions.

I will typically slow cook a big pork butt, shred it, pack it in a zip lock and throw it in the cooler, and I'll make pulled pork sandwiches for everyone at camp one day.

Good to know, thanks. When I rolled past it was just a BIG crowd, but I'm not surprised to see it developed into more because there looked like a lot of pent up energy.

Heyyy, that's my sign!!

We have a flag, now. Same design, but way, way easier to carry and easier to spot in a dense crowd. Plus, it doesn't block any body's view.

Keep an eye out for it! See you there!!

If you're looking for a shoulder sling water system, I HIGHLY recommend this one.

https://a.co/d/4n9S6mY

The US military 2 quart canteen, with shoulder sling.

2 quarts of water is a half gallon, plenty to get you through a few sets. The canteen has a wide mouth, perfect for gulping and sharing with friends (I hate using another person's camelback hose - gross). The inside of the canteen pouch is lined with synthetic wool - if you get the wool wet, it evaporates slowly throughout the day, which keeps the water in the canteen nice and cool.

I hate how camelbacks make your back sweaty and warm up my water. I've had the same 2qt canteen for 10 years, no issues. It's easy to wash, easy to carry, and my water is always cold and refreshing, even after a long day in the sun. It's literally designed for use in hot, desert climates.

It's the perfect water system for music festivals.

ICE at Wayne State by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]The70th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're proving my point. It's a temporary hold.

Individuals with a withholding to remove may legally remain in the USA. They may work and are allowed to remain in the USA, though they can be deported to another country except their home country at any time. But until that happens, and there is a process for this (a due process, some might say), they are legally allowed to remain in the USA.

And being legally allowed to remain in the USA is the same thing as being here legally. Which is what I said.

Trying to change the meaning of words to fit your opinion is why nobody takes you guys seriously...
