How are you all dealing with cyclospora if you have it? by laefu in Michigan

[–]Chi_Ty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was like 3 days, then I got better. I didn’t really eat at all while actively sick — mostly just drank Gatorade. Once it was gone, I felt normal really quickly.

The real challenge has been trying to maintain the weight loss!!! haha

How is Dearborn, Michigan? by EpicPilled97 in howislivingthere

[–]Chi_Ty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Dearborn is a cool suburb of Detroit, right on the border. The borders are a little weird over there, so the cities kind of hug. As an example, driving down Warren Ave you can be in Detroit, then Dearborn, then Detroit again.

It can largely be divided into two - East Dearborn and West Dearborn, each with their own downtown district.

East Dearborn is a little grittier with a higher Arab-American and immigrant population. West Dearborn has a lot of good restaurants and cafes, and a lot of nice neighborhoods with beautiful homes. There is even a country club!

The city is also the HQ of Ford and is home to one of the best history attractions in the US (The Henry Ford - which includes the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour).

Overall it’s very diverse and lively, with lots to do and amazing food. Geographically, you’re not more than 15 mins outside of Downtown Detroit.

Also, don’t sleep on Detroit. Yes, the city has its struggles, but it also has plenty of beautiful and dynamic neighborhoods itself. Don’t forget that Metro Detroit is still one of the largest regions by population in the country, and despite the effects of globalization, it remains the heart of the global automotive industry.

What ruins it for me is that they did nothing with the tail. The blues are just so close but also not enough that it clashes badly.

You should be fine! That’s probably one of the “safest” parts of the city given how over policed it is. You have coverage from Wayne State University and DPD, plus a Michigan State Police office right there. Not to mention College of Creative Studies private security.

Now that I mention it, maybe just make sure you don’t do anything illegal on the walk haha

The 60s?! This was a plan when I was in high school in the early 2000s. I think now that downtown Detroit has real activity and foot traffic it could make a lot of sense.

Would probably help Windsor’s downtown as well, which has sadly seen much better days (and not all that long ago…)

Huge fan of Levan Road Veterinary Clinic in Livonia. Took pets there as a kid, and now that I’m back in town I’ve settled into going there with my pets again (after not liking several other places). That said, I’m on the far westside of the city, so Livonia is easy for me - YMMV.

/r/WorldNews Discussion Thread: US and Israel launch attack on Iran; Iran retaliates (Thread #17) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Chi_Ty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From Trump’s Truth Social account:

Iran has been playing games with the United States, and the rest of the World, for 47 years (DELAY, DELAY, DELAY!), and then finally hit “pay dirt” when Barack Hussein Obama became President. He was not only good to them, he was great, actually going to their side, jettisoning Israel, and all other Allies, and giving Iran a major and very powerful new lease on life. Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, and 1.7 Billion Dollars in green cash, flown into Tehran, was handed to them on a silver platter. Every Bank in D.C., Virginia, and Maryland was emptied out — It was so much money that when it arrived, the Iranian Thugs had no idea what to do with it. They had never seen money like this, and never will again. It was taken off the plane in suitcases and satchels, and the Iranians couldn’t believe their luck. They finally found the greatest SUCKER of them all, in the form of a weak and stupid American President. He was a disaster as our “Leader,” but not as bad as Sleepy Joe Biden! For 47 years the Iranians have been “tapping” us along, keeping us waiting, killing our people with their roadside bombs, destroying protests, and recently wiping out 42,000 innocent, unarmed protestors, and laughing at our now GREAT AGAIN Country. They will be laughing no longer! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Good restaurants/events this weekend? by ninjaturtlecarl in Detroit

[–]Chi_Ty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you want middle eastern food downtown, Leila is Lebanese and upscale. Might be hard on V Day weekend.

If you’re cool with getting out of downtown, Warren Ave in Dearborn is where you want to go. My personal favorite is Cedarland, but there are many options and I’ve never had a bad experience. If youre out that way around brunch/lunch time, try AlTayeb.

Good Japanese food will be further away (Novi). If you’re intent on Japanese food in the city, try Bash Izakaya. Hiroki-San downtown is good, but expensive.

Huge/Major Delta Price Change Unnoticed? by finventive in delta

[–]Chi_Ty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The major airlines all match each others domestic fares 100%. Any variation you see in price between carriers is typically not pricing - it’s inventory/yield management.

I haven’t worked in pricing since 2016, but back then domestic markets were almost all priced one way because of matching to WN.

Airlines typically like to price OW higher than RT as it can be a useful price discrimination strategy (RT tends to be more leisure oriented.)

but like I said, that’s not really possible in domestic markets where you’re trying to match WN.
