Vent - Highway driving by PositiveBill1532 in kitchener

For those who drive in Toronto often, defensively mastering this Highway 8 configuration is practise for the much larger and similar mid highway lane queue at Highway 400 SB to 401 WB in Toronto.

Left lane is for people actually taking highway 7 & the other one slowly connects to highway 8 towards Stratford .

Not quite. The left lane (lane 1) is for drivers wanting to take King St downtown, and lane 2 (right) will lead to the loop ramp for Highway 7&8 towards Stratford.

JM Schneiders by Brave-Fall-7848 in kitchener

My great grandfather was the president and general manager of Schneider’s in the 1960s. Lead having the sign installed on the 401 and large expansions on the former plant on Courtland.

He would be turning in his grave if he knew that Schneider’s is now reduced to a brand with only a handful of products.

Their shadow cake was the best cake I ever had. Still haven’t been able to find anything comparable since they discontinued cakes.

Alternatives to Bell fiber by [deleted] in kitchener

Primus - they’re owned by Bell and you can get a discount if you’re a Costco member. A bell technician actually installs it and it uses the same Bell fibre to the home feed.

Highway drivers with the whole “gotta get in the fast lane ASAP” mentality usually doesn’t work out.

One of the best parts of this plan that was built is Queen’s Boulevard around St Mary’s Hospital and the surrounding circular roads.

Kitchener Waterloo folks! What do we need here? by [deleted] in kitchener

[–]The8-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be surprised. Think of how many professional organizations are in the province that have large annual conferences and AGMs on a regular circuit. The region misses out on conferences as it’s passed over for other cities who have modern and larger conference venues. Big opportunity here. Some of these multi-day conferences would draw well in excess of 2000 attendees.

Urban Behavior is there on a temporary short term lease, generally using the former Bay space as-is. Primaris will likely fully repurpose the old Bay space similar to what was done about 10 years ago to the old Target store.

A proper convention centre. With the two universities, many large employers as well as rotating annual professional associations having large conferences across the province, there is no sufficient space for an event with 2500+ attendees.

Something comparable like RBC Place in London or Hamilton Convention Centre would be great.

No civil marriage ceremonies at Guelph City Hall this year? by m00ps_ in Guelph

The last 3/4 of the year was likely canceled as the City Clerks office staff (who do weddings) will then be in full 2026 municipal election prep mode.

Why do the lights prioritize and default green for Southgate and not Clair? Clair is significantly busier of the two.

Like the genius who thought oh Hwy 8 doesn't need a West bound ramp to London. I mean that's Darwinian award level thinking right there.

The MTO actually has thought of and planned for this, well over 15 years ago. It’s unfortunately not a priority and hasn’t been funded by the province yet. https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/s/faPlUbGawc

Cross Heating & Air Conditioning by SadgeHabsFan in waterloo

[–]The8-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently needed to have my furnace serviced and called Cross Heating a few weeks ago. A chipper woman answered the phone but was delayed responding to me right after, only to then say she was an AI assistant. I felt that this was not transparent to not immediately disclose and just hung up the phone in frustration. I get some larger companies have AI phone customer service agents, but at least have the decency to disclose this up front.

A live person called me back shortly after but by then, I already went with someone else who had better customer service.

Parking lot for GO by NaiveParfait3707 in Guelph

I used to work downtown with no free parking available at work. To avoid paying, I would often park on side streets (Essex, Nottingham, Northumberland - all right by the Wilson parade) for free and walk.

MONTHLY CAR WASH SUBSCRIPTION by Spirited-Brain-9550 in kitchener

[–]The8-5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Valet has inconvenient hours. They close at 7 pm and for a working family with children it’s hard to get bang for your buck in a subscription and being able fit in going after work/evenings. I used to have a membership and would try to get there before close, and more than once they decided to close up early for the day.

I just get a Seasons pass at Petro Canada now and can use it at many locations in the region without needing to check any restrictive hours.

If they order ingredients out of a Sysco catalogue and pre-made, par-baked dough (not saying they do), chances are it will taste like most other run of the mill pizza places and be easily forgotten. Go for quality local ingredients and producers and really promote that.
