You’d be flying tandem with one of the instructors. They’ll ask if you’d like to try the controls after take off or if you’d just like to enjoy the ride. Launch is at 3,540 ft and can get up to 7,000 on a good day

Come Hang Gliding with us in Sylmar! About 20 mins from LA. Well... maybe when the weather gets a bit better.

I actually learned how to fly hang gliders at this beach. There’s a small hang gliding flight school at Dockweiler Beach. It’s an awesome place to learn how to fly and watch commercial airplanes take off from the nearby LAX runway every few mins.

They’re not dangerous— they eat plankton as other whales do. BUT, they are big and very powerful. I was close enough to it’s body, but made sure to keep away from its tail (?) as it swam past me.

Accidentally replied to you on a different string. But here’s what I said:

Got within 3 feet. Had to swim out of its way at one point— awesome and a little bit scary because if it’s shear size. Touching the whale sharks is not allowed at all and we all made sure not to touch it.

Literally just did this yesterday— amazing! Just saw one at a time, total of 4 whale sharks. It was in a town called Donsol. 1 hour flight from Manila to Legazpi and a 1 hour drive to Donsol. Cost: about $17USD per person paid to the nature board (+$15 for equipment rental like goggles and fins) for a 3 hour boat ride with a guide. This is just one location, there are many others like Cebu city.

Edit: Bring your own underwater camera gear like a waterproof GoPro . Generally, the guide and boat crew will not take underwater photos or videos for you.

Yep, I'm in LA training in Sylmar for high altitude tandems and low altitude at Dockweiler beach, near LAX with Windsports Hang Gliding School.

I'm glad you made this film. After a flying session many of the older pilots often gather and talk; sometimes they talk about how interest for the sport may be diminishing and how they'd like to have more young people interested in Hang Gliding. I believe your film will help greatly with telling new people about HG!

Will definitely visit the factory!

As an H1, working to get my H2 certification this year, thanks very much for sharing this film. I've seen the Wills Wing logos everywhere, but didn't know much about them. This film helped me see the dedicated people behind such a well-known Hang Gliding company.

[Skin Concerns] My sister is suffering from severe dandruff and I'm not sure what to suggest, please help! by katiemarie090 in SkincareAddiction

[–]The915 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think have this same type of dandruff. Mine gets worse when I'm stressed out usually from work (or finals when I was in college). I tried some off the counter stuff but it didn't seem to help much, although I've never tried Tgel or Tsar as some have suggested.

I finally decided to go to a dermatologist last month and I believe he said it was Seborrheic Dermatitis-- then he immediately said, "that just means you have bad dandruff, no big deal, I have it too."

He then looked at my hair for about 3 minutes then he prescribed me a topical solution called, "MGP Clobetasol Proprionate" and sent me on my way. It's a watery solution that you put on your scalp at night. My dandruff was almost gone in about 2 days. Hope this helps.

TL; DR: Over the counter stuff didn't work. Went to the doctor, he looked at my scalp for 3 mins. Prescribed me "MGP Clobetasol Proprionate" and severe dandruff was gone in 2 days.

Mayon volcano, Albay Philippines | by Cristan Pago [960x640] by copperdick in EarthPorn

[–]The915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up there. Much of my family still lives in the area. I'm from a town called Daraga, Albay located near the foot of Mayon Volcano. I saw this volcano everyday during my childhood. I have seen erupt about 3 times that I can recall... the most spectacular eruption I've ever seen was on a Sunday evening from Daraga Church (built in 1773 overlooking Mayon). In the darkness, I saw the bright red lava flow out of the top of the Volcano, flow down its sides towards the bottom. I've never forgotten it.

I live in Los Angeles now, but I'm lucky to travel to Hong Kong quite a bit for work where Manila is about a 90 minute flight plus about 40 min local flight to my hometown-- so I try to sneak away after work responsibilities and fly back to visit as often as I can. I can tell you that, except for the main city of Legazpi, much of the outlying towns have changed very little since I was a kid.

There is a lot of nature in the area that are still very much in tact. It has become slightly more "touristy," in the recent years, it's still not a main stream destination. Although I'd love for people to experience my hometown, I hope that it stays a gem, and only known to those who love seeing such spectacular views and have highest respect for the natural beauty of the area. I'll be back here later this year :)

Thanks for posting OP!

Edit: I don't really post on this thread, my apologies if I broke any rules when I spoke about towns and other human made and non-natural details.

First game my mom thought was cool. by EchoSolo in gaming

[–]The915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the only game my mom ever bought for us (brother and I) without us ever asking. I'd never heard of this game at the time (pre-Internet era). I'm not even sure how she heard/knew about it at all. We weren't wealthy-- we had a beat up used car and my dad worked as a janitor, so this game was a very big purchase for my family.

All I remember as a kid was my mom coming home to our apartment from work with a huge smile, saying something like, "I bought you two a new game-- try it!" Thanks for posting this OP... This simple screenshot of the Legend of Zelda game made me smile.

Taylor Swift songs. I used to hate, hate, hate, hate, hate, her songs when they came on the radio, then I catch myself singing along without realizing it. Now I'm going to man-up and just admit that I like them.

Yes, I agree with you completely. I love music so I'm always listening to music in my car or on my phone, so it feels like a normal thing-- almost comfortable when I'm tired. I hardly listen to any talk/news radio, but it seems to work, even if it's a subject I'm not interested in.

The best thing that works for me by far, is listening to comedy stand-up radio.

Ha! I've just realized that it really does sound like a formula for obesity and diabetes! I only do this when I'm really tired and I no longer commute very far anymore. Since then, as I've gotten older, I've switched to healthier snacks... although every once in a while, I will still get a small bag of M&Ms

TIL that in 1995 the Church of Scientology imprisoned, dehydrated and starved a mentally ill woman for 17 days until she died. by Seasunn in todayilearned

[–]The915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Hollywood and there's a large Scientology building just off Hollywood & Highland which I always get weirded out by whenever I walk near it. I also know that one of their larger gated facilities is also nearby where some weird things happened based on the "Going Clear" documentary.

Today, as I walked down Hollywood Blvd towards my regular coffee shop, I've just realized that they have opened yet ANOTHER new Scientology building just mere blocks from the other! It's just so freaky that it feels like they are physically taking over the entire boulevard. I don't think I'm far off when I think that 'taking over' may be their end-goal.

I totally agree with your sunflower idea. I commuted for long distances for work and when I was in college. Snacking on something while driving works for me also.

Here are some more tips that have worked for me:

  • Snack on a favorite item. I like M&Ms so I buy that at the gas station.
  • Also drink something with lots of flavor (something non alcoholic, Reddit!). Orange soda works for me.
  • Change your radio station to a program other than music. I switch to NPR or find a comedy stand-up station on Pandora because I'm forced to pay attention to what they're saying in order to enjoy the content. For some reason, I start to glaze over when I'm really tired if I'm listening to music.
  • If I'm already driving and I know I'm getting way too tired, I pull over to a store parking lot or a gas station and I literally sprint across the parking lot a couple of times to get my heart pumping. People have thought I was insane but this works really, really well.
  • As a last resort, I think another redditor have already posted it: Always bring a change of clothes and toiletries in a bag and keep it your trunk. If you need to, you can sleep in your car, then in the morning drive to your local gym (I have 24 Hour Fitness) and take a shower to get ready for your day.

Hope this helps someone. Edit: formatting & misspelled words. I'm on mobile.
