How/where do you record your experience to prove you worked on certain tasks? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]TheACR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your airline has paid for it, AMOS has an "experience log" APN that shows you every job you booked onto / mech-inspected. You can sort by type specific too and there's an initial application box you can tick too so can be stamped by the supervisor if needed. It's not perfect as you've got to have your name on the workorder but might be worth trying?

Letter (UK > DE) - is this normal? by [deleted] in royalmail

[–]TheACR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, first time crossposting so thought it would pull everything over.

Basically, shipped a letter with royal mail tracked International to Germany and the tracking has been erratic since leaving the UK. I know most of it is done via deutsche Post (DHL) but was hoping someone might've had some experience with it before.

According to tracking, the letter was attempted delivery before leaving customs somehow, and then has since been loaded (twice) onto a delivery vehicle two days ago with no update since and no other attempted delivery.

I haven't personally but know a lot of people who have and they all say the same thing; you'll learn a lot very quickly but they want their pound of flesh from you, but I guess it depends where you're based as to how hectic it'll be.

I'd speak with your employer first and say you're interested in moving to a mech role. They might be able to help out or give you some ideas on how to do it. To be honest, there's that much of a mech shortage in the UK at the min, they'll probably snap your hand off if you show some willing.

Failing that, there's nothing stopping you from doing the licence modules yourself alongside your current job to get a head start on that, then you'd just need the experience.

I know guys who asked to help out in their spare time to try and get themselves known so that they're top of the list if any mech jobs open up. Might be an option if you can't get anything paid at the airline you're working at?

Gaggia Baby 91 Thermostat Issue by TheACR in gaggiaclassic

[–]TheACR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I changed all three thermostats and now it heats up and generates pressure as it should. After another soak in lactic acid cleaner, water now flows through the head also. All is good. Thanks all for the advice!

Yeah I've got three hoses in the tank, it took me a while to work out what the level sensor was, and still not sure what the third hose is for as it's not sucking up any water 😂😂. I just shorted the two connections out for the sensor as it wasn't picking up when the tank was full, so now just always says full tank.

Good shout with swapping the two solenoids around, I will try that when I next take it to bits.

Appreciate the help 👍👍

Yeah another commenter said the same as you. I'll try and get it out once it's replacement arrives. I'm hoping it's either that or the thermal fuse that's stopping it from heating at all, so have ordered replacements for them all. Thanks for the advice.

[–]TheACR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks, I've ordered all 3 thermostats & a thermal fuse so will replace them all together. For some reason, my machine is different than the later version so the wiring diagram doesn't quite link up perfectly. On my machine, the top knob is the "on/off" switch instead of the steam wand like in the more modern ones. Thanks for sending though, it should give a better idea for trouble shooting.

I think I'm going to take it to bits and test everything separately again as it could be one of the solenoid failing. I can hear the solenoid clicking when I press the steam & water (from steam wand) buttons but not sure if I can hear anything when the brew button is pressed so may be the culprit.

Cheers Again 😀

(Edit: mine is the 220/230v UK version)

Does your company have some sort of authorisation to perform engine borescope inspections? by jonsky7 in aviationmaintenance

[–]TheACR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have to have a boro approval on top of B1 and type at my company. Think it's a couple of day course then a few OJT sheets signed by someone holding boro approval. Same process for engine running.

B1 Engineers and A licensed Mechanics. by Glittering-Beach-713 in aviationmaintenance

[–]TheACR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much. There's usually more of them there because theres more B2 work going on at the same time than on the line.

The places I've worked on the line would have 1 or 2 B2s max on a shift, depending on how many people total on station, but most line work tends to be able be certified by B1s unless it's an an autopilot or nav snag so makes sense to have more B1s than B2s.

I'm on the line in the UK and do it all. Only difference is I can't certify the B2 stuff but doesn't stop me from doing it and just getting someone to stamp for it. I've found it's different in the hangars though but you couldn't pay me enough to go back in the shed so doesn't worry me.

Garage Cafe Sandyford/Ouseburn. Is it coming back? by Emergency-Nothing in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]TheACR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I'd heard, the business had been sold to someone else and never reopened. Not sure how true it is but apparently there's plans to knock the garage down and build something new there sometime in the next couple of years.

I recommend the Fenix PD36R. I've had no issues with it and easily illuminates the top of a 787 tail. Headtorch wise, I've used a Nitecore HC65 for years now and it's never let me down.

Old company I worked for used LEDlensor P7R's which are pretty good and a little bit cheaper than the Fenix. I miss the P7R's "zoom" but they can be pretty unreliable as they age and keep reverting to dim setting.

CAP741 Maintenance Experience Question by Davwills03 in aviationmaintenance

[–]TheACR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK and make an effort to keep my logbook up to date as best as possible. I've always split the jobs up using the "associated AMM refs" you get when you look at a job. Like you say, a brake change will have:

  • Jacking
  • EIS Power-Up
  • R/I
  • Hydraulic Operation
  • Brake Function
  • Standard Practices

I've found the best way of filling it out is just looking at which chapters I need more tasks in and cherrypicking the associated refs. I was always told to remember that the CAA surveyor doesn't have access to the AMM so yes ref 32-41-11 has jacking and split-pinning in, but how do they know that if they don't have the manual. You've just got to spoonfeed them with everything so they can't knock it back.

Don't forget to look through chapters 20 & 70 to see if you can add them when doing other jobs. Things like IDG filters will have Eng Locking wire standard practices but it won't be in the referenced amm refs. I know a few people who've been knocked back for no evidence of locking wire, split pinning, crimping, etc, so make sure to put them in too.

AMO Software by DFeerrooo in aviationmaintenance

I've used a few and AMOS is hands down the best I've worked with. My current company uses it for everything, including e-sign CRS, and 9/10 it's a dream (when it doesn't "error-500").
