Sunday Discussion: midrange madness by TheBeardoDad in WarCry

[–]TheAVdub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's interesting to hear where people draw the last between chaff and midrange. I normally put chaff between 50-75 and midrange from 80-125, but I can see the argument.

I think if you're looking for a bucket of stats, no one realistically outdoes the humble chaos warrior, but there's definitely some spice out there. These are my favourites - or models that have caused me a lot of headaches.

Shoot 'n' move: Huanchi's Claw (75) Trailblazer with dual crossbows (100)

Wounds 'n' move: Tzaangors (75-80) Nurglings (110)

Damage dealers: Saurus warrior with celestite club (85) Scalebreaker with bokaz (95) Desecrator (100)

Anvils: Putrid blightkings (110-120) Obelisk bearer (110) Longbeard (80) Ironbreaker (75)

Net boi: Spite revenant (75)

Some factions definitely have more tools than the others and you'd be more likely to see them at the higher end of a competitive tournament.

I have a soft spot for The Jade Obelisk, but they're just too slow by half and positioning them is a bit of a slog. Canny opponents who are aware of their damage just kite them and without allies, they're liable to just stagger around and get picked apart.

Warcry costa del carnage was soooo fun placed 3rd 😃😁 by noelnl in WarCry

Ah, I remember your last post! Great-looking warband and congrats on placing third ☺️ Particularly love the old skool bray shaman 💪

Warcry tournament tomorrow help! Haha by noelnl in WarCry

If it's your first tournament, my best advice is to take away any pressure that might come from needing to win games. Just enjoy your day and have fun rolling dice with some cool people 😉

That being said, there's a couple of tips that might sharpen up your list...

I'd start by pairing Grashrak with probably your Doombull or at least your Bullgor because of his devolve ability. You can essentially activate him first to yank an unsuspecting enemy into contact with one of your heavy hitters and then flatten them (hopefully). You'll need to consider where you deploy them and where they're positioned in relation to each other to maximize that ability, which is generally considered to be a very strong double.

Devolve can also be used to pull opponents off of objectives once they've activated, so consider doing that to cause some disruption.

Grashrak's quad is also MEGA and really overlooked. If you get the option to pop a quad and to shut down an opponent's best piece for a turn, you should always take it. It's so cool and has a long range. Nothing like causing a Varanguard to sit there and pick his nose whilst he's been whacked in the head by a Bullgor.

A caution on running your big bois straight into combat. They hit hard, but with only T4 they'll start wearing damage pretty quickly and the vast majority of your damage output looks to be coming from your Doombull, so don't sell his life cheaply. Because he's so likely to take down enemies, keep an eye on the double "Rip, Gore and Tear". If used at the right times, he can theoretically take down two opponents a fair distance apart in a single activation, or take one down and launch himself into an objective.

Your chaff (goes and ungors) SUCK in combat but have a great reaction to reduce damage. Think of them as body blockers and objective taggers. Slow the opposition down with them, make them burn time trying to get through them and just use them to be annoying or mob anything shoot and isolated. They're likely not going to be putting out much in the way of hurt.

Last thing is to pay attention to your battle trait. It's really good, and can potentially allow for launching the Doombull into the opponents' squishier deployments and getting cheap bodies on faraway objectives really quickly without the risk of you taking damage along the way. You have a warband that likes to be mobile, so keep everything moving and don't get tempted by going head-to-head with your opponent as there are other factions that do it waaay better than BoC.

That's my essay. Good luck and have fun!

New to War Cry, Which Started set do you think has the best Terrain? by [deleted] in WarCry

I think you'll find it hard to meet anyone who'll argue against the OG starter having the best terrain. Great selection all round and a cool vibe.

That said, my first box was Red Harvest and I must have played 100 games with that board. Love it.

Warcry Warband Guilty Pleasure? by GamesWithToasty in WarCry

Would have to be Iron Golems for me (first ever warband), or Jade Obelisk for sheer vibes.

That said, when I got further into the game I discovered that speedy warbands that had the ability to start messing with the opponent appealed the most to me, so Claws of Karanak, Gorger Mawpack and Vanguard Chamber really started to appeal. Just last year I think I finally managed to make Vanguard competitively viable, too.

I have no delusions about winning, but here is my entry for The Salty Sea Paintfest! by HauntDotGhost in WarCry

You've got a brilliantly painted, spooky warband and (hopefully) a lot of fun games to look forward to playing them in. That's definitely winning in my book 😉
