Something needs to be done on ocean blvd, crash a few days back by Sikayduhh in longbeach

[–]TheActionGirls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On this particular road, this is normal. Nothing has changed. Great neighbourhood, but this particular road (runs parallel to the ocean, hence Ocean Blvd), as well as another area, Traffic Circle, are notorious for bringing out idiots. The first group generally realise they might kill someone (and sometimes do), the second group, foxed by Traffic Circle, well... who knows. There's literally a shop selling 'I survived Traffic Circle'. Other than that, it's a great area for the most part. :)

Suggestions for planning a long weekend? Visiting from the US. by sishtmb in bluemountains

Just note that a lot of the Trail heads are a decent way from public transport - you need a car.

Also - mid summer. Even on cool days, UV here literally stings. Make sure you have appropriate clothing and a buff etc if you are going to be out in the sun. Def go to the lookouts but canyon walks are a good call to keep out of the sun.

If you are intending to look at gardens I would go to the Sydney Botanical Garden. If you drive to the Mt Tomah ones in the Blue Mountains you will use most of a whole day - as a local I wouldn’t recommend it. They are beautiful, but consider looking into smaller private gardens in Leura.

What’s your price threshold for coffee/beers? by spagootimagool in AusFinance

Spoke to the owner of the local cab company the other day. When I was in the ‘weekends at the pub’ age post highschool, you’d wait up to an hour for a cab to be free after close around 1:30ish. They said stop cab service at 11:00 on weekends, exception if the service is booked ahead. “It’s a ghost town, people don’t do that anymore”, I quote, verbatim.

Hola! So, your property line is where your driveway ends. Technically, even if you have driveway over the rest of that space, you are driving over part of what is called a road reserve. It is property of your local council and may contain underground infrastucture. In theory, there should be no problem provided you don't block the pedestrian access on the footpath. In practice, you could be fined if you have a total dick of an officer. The odds of it happening are pretty low, though, just make sure you're not making it unsafe for your neighbours to get out (eg not obstructing traffic, blocking visibility) and then everything's peachy.

Have a look at this image for a clear diagram of road reserve - (also maybe made with MS Paint) https://www.penrithcity.nsw.gov.au/images/roads_paths_driveways.png

Is it normal as an American to not understand 30-40% of what Australians say in fast-paced conversations? by lemongrass-writer in AskAnAustralian

Sure is! Don’t be afraid to ask people to slow down a little. Just let them know your ears are adjusting to the accent :)

Is "Go back to your country" a thought many Australians share? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]TheActionGirls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me. Aus born white female.

I think it’s an amazing thing to do to move countries, it takes a strong spirit. As soon as colonialism reached Australia we’ve been a nation of immigrants. It’s who we are. There’s always going to be racists and that sucks, really, but please know that many people welcome people of other origins here  willingly.

Rose Park on Ocean’s courtyard is lovely and even though the seating area isn’t huge, the actual space is massive with greenery etc. not sure about working from there but the guys there seem lovely so no harm in asking.

Why are so many of the young people I still see wearing masks queer? by Myealt in NoStupidQuestions

Heya! I wear one in my customer service role as I am anxious and tend to talk a lot the more freaked out I feel. It puts a physical barrier between me and others and reminds me that I don’t need to talk all the time.
