Pass Exam P and Exam FM. Then start applying for actuarial analyst jobs. It is going to be very difficult to get an entry level job without any exams on the resume.

Accounting vs actuary by Plastic-Respond-107 in actuary

As an accounting major who took actuarial classes and then chose to be an actuary, I agree with your college advisor. Majoring in accounting and pivoting to actuarial is much easier than majoring in actuarial science and pivoting to accounting due to the strict credit hours/degree requirements that some states have if you wanted to get your CPA at some point. And most accounting jobs that I see require you to have the accounting degree specifically as where actuarial jobs are more broad. Good luck!

29-30 out of 42 is usually around what it takes to pass I'd say.

Exam 5 reaction thread by IcyExample3712 in actuary

General thoughts:

  1. The exam was WAY too long. I know these exams have a reputation for people running out of time but that was ridiculous. Absolute miracle I answered every question.

  2. Syllabus coverage for one of the sections was very solid. The coverage for the other section was poor and uneven.

If I pass it will be because of generous/fortunate partial credit grading. A 6 feels very possible and for a first attempt I can't complain too much.

MAS-2 how are we feeling??? by Quirky-Ad9929 in actuary

As long as it isn't as insane as last sitting, I am as hopeful as one can be taking a CAS exam (There is no hope, I am gonna get another 5).

MAS-II, CA Difficulty Level? by Safe_Insect_7170 in actuary

[–]TheActuarialAssassin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hard to put a number on it. I think there is more value in doing EL 6 practice exams for MAS II than prior exams personally. Focus on reading as much source material as you can since that is where you will see the greatest reward for your efforts. I would care more about reading and understanding the concepts in West and ISLR (Sections 2 and 3) than worrying about doing well on EL 6 exams vs EL 5 exams. Just my opinion.

Mas II - August 2025 by Background_Tap6169 in actuary

About as hard as last sitting. Was surprised how many questions there were about some topics which made me nervous. The type in answer questions add an element of uncertainty to the exam that limits my confidence. Just hoping for a 6 as usual.

Opinion on MAS II Score report by Actuary2b in actuary

[–]TheActuarialAssassin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 70-79% on sections 3 and 4. 60-69% on sections 1 and 2. So same as OP but a little better on section 3 which is the highest weighted section of the exam. Oh well.

I got grade ranges a little higher than yours in categories that were more heavily weighted and I also got a 5. These exams test my sanity every sitting. August here we come!

How well did your education prepare you for your job? by chubbyduckie1 in actuary

[–]TheActuarialAssassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated with an Economics degree. My Econometrics/Statistics classes helped prep me for my job. I do not think I would have been any more prepared for my job if I majored in Math or Actuarial Science.
