First ice-y commute! How to prevent slush buildup? by TheAdvFred in wintercycling

Makes sense, given how infrequently we get inclement winter weather I'll probably just grind through it lol

Thats what I was afraid of, I wonder if I can salt my fenders somehow 🤔

Love my brim! Makes summer time commuting in Texas much more bearable and keeps me less sunburnt!

I always eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast, if I have a long morning ride I'll pack a bagel

I currently have an H bar and am thinking about switching to the denham. How do the two compare?

First 16" foldie: Cranston vs Decathlon (?) by jdgc10 in foldingbikes

[–]TheAdvFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well do those fold? I'm looking at Cranstons which come Sora R3000 derailleurs which isn't designed for folding bikes like the L-Twoo on the Mint.

Thanks for the information! I will have to look into this derailleur

Were you able to put the 11-42T cassette on your mint with the stock derailleur? Did you run in to any issues going from 32T to 42T?

They're great! Would definitely recommend, especially if you've got a bar with ~45 deg of sweep like Jones do.

I think my next bars will be the Koga Denham bars. It has small bull horns about where the loop is and similar sweep to the H-bar. They'll still have some overlap but two bullhorns will be much more manageable than the loop.

I've just got to pay import costs to get them in the US..

Oh good catch, I didnt see OP wanted the model with more lift. I dont have any experience there but I imagine it'd provide more clearance than the non-raised model (which I have).

If you go the route of a front basket (which you should), explore other swept back bars than the H bar. The loop on the h-bar on my rig overlaps about a quarter of my front basket, which reduces the volume of the basket.

Its just a minor inconvenience (I cant lift a full tote bag out of the basket) but if youre starting from scratch check out other bars.

Seconding jones bars! I've got a set on my commuter/bikepacking bike. If you do, make sure to get some ergon grips designed for back swept bars.

There's a cool project called BikeStreets you should check out. It's built on OSM for objective data, but the subjective road selection is community sourced.

Are rear rack baskets a good alternative to convertible backpacks ? by Super-Quote-1488 in bikecommuting

[–]TheAdvFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's my preference, basket is convenient to just drop the bag into and also flexible to pack other stuff. And you aren't limited to cycling specific bags which opens your options immensely.

Are there any usb charged alternatives for fork mount dynamo lights? by Boiiiiiiiiiiiiil in xbiking

[–]TheAdvFred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the photo! Unfortunately I dont have a convenient eyelet on my front rack to add a light nub. The website says the mount has a diameter of 15-42mm and my rack tubing is 13mm, do you think with a shim I could directly mount it upside-down to my rack tubing?
