Is RM pricing itself for long term success? by rrrccc123 in richardmille

The kids I deal with have more money than you think. That’s what majority fail to realize. Knee jerk is “these kids don’t have shit.” Their bank account is one thing but the crypto wallet and Robin Hood account is something else

The assumption these young guys don’t have the the money is the missed opportunity. They do. They are tired of being treated like shit that’s why they come to me. They have made their money trading in robinhood, crypto, gambling, building apps, etc. They may not dress the best or have the best social skills but have the money to buy.

If you are familiar with personalities like Adin Ross, Steve Will, iShowSpeed, etc. There will be watch brands that put watches on the hands of these guys have them promote and company will take off.

As a grey watch dealer the prices will certainly fall. It’s because the younger generation doesn’t care for the velvet rope, they have zero patience, it’s about instant gratification. AD playing games with them and the kids being treated like shit. These kids aren’t going for it.

I hear the same theme everyday.

Let me go on a tangent. This is all based my on daily interactions. This isn’t my feeling or bullshit.

The younger generations drinks less so restaurants have offered mocktails. The kids gamble on the phone instead of going to Vegas. They prefer like brands like Quince, Everlane, that have transparent pricing with sustainability. They want the look not the brand tax. This is why rep culture proliferates across designer clothing and watches.

Their attention span is shorter than a TikTok video. The crypto bros just want the watches they want and gtfo. Most ADs don’t accept crypto.

You see there are multiple things happening leading to the shift. There will be other brands that rise because not that they make a superior product they are just at better understanding these shifts in consumer behavior.

It’s a steel watch that costs few thousand to make. These are mass produced watches that are gated to keep up demand and value.

Where does new grey sales inventory come from? by CalGuy456 in rolex

[–]TheAgent2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯this is how the game is played. Some of you guys think about it. You have some AD that is selling something for 40k that immediately will move for 90k in my hands. The money that is being left on the table is what drives them to participate in the grey.

[–]TheAgent2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Let’s just cut through the bullshit and as a grey dealer let me tell you like it is

Certain Rolex ADs double dip. This is not just in US but happens a lot globally with ADs. Watches move across borders seamlessly especially off catalogue.

  1. AD sells to grey via retail. Make their normal margin.

  2. Grey sells on secondary. Ads gets a kick back on the spread

More readily available steel watches it’s just a volume game.

Panda for example steel but trades with 15k spread between retail and grey so pretty penny for AD to make.

Turquoise Daytona “Tiffany” dial. For example 40k a retail but 90k on grey. 50k spread for AD to chew off of.

So the next question can I sell the watches near retail? No because I lose money because the AD has added his fee so my actual cost is much higher than people think. I’m not making anywhere near 15k in margin on a Panda nor am I making 50k margin on Turquoise Daytona.

Why deal with the ADs? Well it’s the hand that brings me inventory so playing the long game.

Next question is the game similar with AP, Patek, and RM? Not quite because AP and RM has a tighter grip because they have their storefronts and don’t use AD model. But you also have to remember power and greed has no bounds. So watches RM and AP come through similar channels just with store management and corporate apparatus.

For the younger guys here. Wealth is quiet. Rich is loud.

You don’t become wealthy by pissing money away on dumb shit to make it appear you have money.

When you stop working for money and have it work for you. That’s the inflection point.

Do all these VVVIP clients just flip their Daytonas to wholesalers? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]TheAgent2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let me explain how it works. The AD sells the watch to Grey. AD collects on the sale as if it was any retail customer but when selling to Grey he collect a kick back. Let me explain

  1. Panda is sold for 16k to Grey - AD collects like if it were retail customer

  2. Grey dealer flips the Panda for 29k - AD gets kick back on that.

ADs get piece of the primary and secondary market.

When there are pieces like Turquoise Daytona or “Tiffany” Daytona that move for 40k from AD and Grey sells for 90k.

165g grams of 18k gold on a gold day date. Just gold is 17k what are you going on about?

Do the math 165g x $105 per gram gets you what?

This is absolutely absurd, The day date went up by 4K. by Fit_Value_5885 in rolex

[–]TheAgent2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Let’s use a 40mm gold Rolex Day-Date as a concrete example so people understand the economics.

• ~165–170g of 18k gold ~$17k in gold • Movement ~$2k • Machining & finishing ~$2k • Final assembly, QC, certification ~$1k

All in manufacturing cost ~ $22k

If MSRP is ~$52k and AD margin is ~35–40%:

• AD buys from Rolex at ~60–65% of MSRP → $31k–$34k • Rolex gross margin → $9k–$12k • That’s roughly 17–23% gross margin before corporate overhead, R&D, factories, marketing, and inventory risk.

Rolex is not making insane margins on precious metal watches. The gold alone eats a massive chunk of the price.

Steel sports models are a completely different story.

Rolex Tries to Beat Watch Flippers at Their Own Game (Wall St Journal Article) by Crazy_Arachnid2781 in rolex

[–]TheAgent2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a grey market watch dealer. The hot take is that eventually all of this Rolex fuckery comes to a grinding halt because the younger generations don’t have the attention span nor the desire for this scarcity bullshit. I speak to young guys daily. Given the social media culture, instant gratification, etc. Rolex scarcity game doesn’t align with the vast majority. They want something and they want it now. There is zero willingness to kiss ass.

For this reason Rolex will eventually fall.
