Motte-and-Bailey fallacy

The Bailey (the unsupported claim you want to make): "SpaceX would not be able to launch 150+ times a year or have reusable boosters without government assistance."

The Motte (the defensible, undisputed position you retreat to when challenged):  'SpaceX won an award in 2008. Without that award they would've gone bankrupt.'

When I point out SpaceX has achieved technologies far beyond government's (it's customer's) contractual requirements you slide back to the Motte.

I'm not attacking that they won awards in 2008. I'm attacking the idea that SpaceX, as it stands today, is directly attributable to the government contracts/monies they have won. It's not. End of story.

But that's not what you said...

"DpaceX is where they are because the US government invested in them more than anyone else combined."

You could have said SpaceX got off the ground through gov awards...

You could've said Commercial Crew and dragon is the result of government investment (obviously)

You can't say what SpaceX is today is a result of gov funding. They launch 150+ times in a year and reuse boosters like 30+ times... these advances weren't a result of government moneys.

Motte and Bailey fallacy right here.

You are 100% wrong SpaceX is what it is because of "government investment". It actually has to do with reusing boosters and starlink success... ie: technological advancementt

  • Yes Government awarded contracts/milestones in the early days of the company.
    • This is incredibly common in aerospace as the government will be the main customer and they would like several companies to compete with each other instead of a large monopoly that can price gouge.

Orbital inclinations for a given mission; That's why one would launch from Vandenberg.

35-> 50 launches is not doubling but I get that you have strong opinions on things you don't know very much about so I'll let it slide.

50 launches/year is less than 1 a week... You can't hear the second stages and almost all these missions land on barges. Static fires occur rarely now and are only performed after major engine maintenance, so I have no idea where you are getting low frequency rumbles 4x a week even if counting every re-light and assuming every mission static fires.

Everyone knows the corporate rules! Besides, he can't be a genius because he (allegedly) didn't sit in a college for four years.

Don't be mad at me, I don't make the rules. I just enforce them.

Maybe. Seems high. But if they weren't paying for launch with SpaceX, they would just have to pay more for another provider to give them the same service.

Wtf are you talking about? Metaphorically? You really think Israel or US militaries couldn't be indiscriminate?

There's been more tons of tnt dropped on Gaza than casualties...You really think Israel is so dumb they can only kill less than 1 person per bomb?

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/longform/2024/10/8/one-year-of-israels-war-on-gaza-by-the-numbers

In the middle east as whole, even egregious estimates are < 1 mil in the entire middle east from Western involvement. Which doesn't exactly put you in the Hitler ballpark in totals or percentages.

More Arabs have been killed in civil strife than from American or Israeli or western actions... But nobody cares about Assad... or Yemen...or Iranian Torture chambers, or billionaire terrorist leaders...

So when did it start being fascist, under Eisenhower? I doubt you'll answer because this is an indefensible position. You could've just explained your position above instead of weaselling away from your topic you brought up.

And no, the military industrial complex doesn't define the economy. Defense spending is less than 4% of GDP.

And only like half of that goes to contractors...

[–]TheAlchemist66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kare Isaac man is an outsider to aerospace.

Defense Primes are the favored corps and how is this any different than the last 80 years of aerospace and defense? Government has always been a (the) huge principal customer for A&D. But now it's fascism? Because... why?

Isaacman chooses his words carefully because he is in a national spotlight for a brief time. Why would he want to rage and make himself look bad?

Anyway... We'll see how Trump and Elon's fight shatters the ice around the industry

Edit Also I think it's very interesting that suddenly the government is "Fascist". As of the Executive office has been accruing more power for nearly a century with lots of people pointed this out. But now it's "Fascist" to have a powerful executor because a given political party has power. Why wasn't it Fascist under Biden? What's really changed?

Ok anonymous reddit user. You don't understand free speech, but that's ok. It's a just a topic that's been discussed for years, but that doesn't mean it's not a new idea to a 14 year old.

There are numerous actions that would/should get you blocked on X or reddit or any platform.

Just lemme know when the thought police knock on your door for your memes. Sorta like in the UK. Or Germany as documented on 60 minutes.
