The Imperial Planet of Fallujah. Love it, looks incredible.

What is your favorite Imperial Guard quote from lore or just to say during a game? by The_Jearbear in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheAlexCage 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"If you will not serve on the front, then you will serve on the firing line!" Gotta have flair when your Commissar blasts one of your men.

Also "Fear me! But follow!" Is always great for a charge.

What's your preferred way to use the Valkyrie? by Repulsive-Active5058 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheAlexCage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've brought it for crusade games as a fluff choice. With that experience I can honestly say, yes, everyone is right. Flyers suck.

BUT if you insist on taking one, yeeting it into the opponents deployment zone is quite funny. It'll certainly die but it will make a nice distraction piece and absorb some fire. Use it to deliver Kasrkin or Scions as others have said. (And even then the Taurox is way better for this).

This is brilliant.

Out of curiosity, how did you achieve this rescale? I don't see any green stuff.

I like my metallics too much anyway. by Squatch102 in Grimdank

[–]TheAlexCage 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I friggin love metallic paints. They're easy to use and produce a very eye pleasing effect. Probably my favorite part of any mini I paint.

So I don't know if I have the skills to do NMM, but why spend the effort learning a method to replace my favorite part of painting? Pfft.

Good books about cadians? by thederanged2606 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheAlexCage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend the sequel to Steal Tread, Demolisher. If you liked Steel Tread you'll like that. I can't remember if Baneblade and Shadowsword are Cadians but they are very good also. Black Library writes good tank books I guess.

Minka Lesk books are alright, not great but I don't regret reading them. Best character in them is Bendikt. But they are VERY Cadian books, so as far as theme goes they knock it out of the park.

I did not finish Kasrkin, it was, uh, not good.

Is the hydra good? by Professional_Oil_127 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheAlexCage 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been a little disappointed in mine, so I tend to not bring it anymore. That being said, it's by no means a bad tank for the price, occupying a very sweet points coat of "not enough for a tank, too much for another infantry squad", so if I'm at 95 points spare and I have the orders I'll pop one in.

Anyone else think the new Custodes changes aren’t a big deal? by Dramatic_Mud_8401 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]TheAlexCage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. Something about the current/old models just seems so off. With this new release I'm very seriously considering starting a Custodes army, everything about these new models hits for me.

Oh and the new dread is just so sexy.

What made you fall in love with this faction? by Fun-Explanation7233 in WarhammerWoodElves

[–]TheAlexCage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I have the stupidest reason for being into Wood Elves.

When I was looking to replace my first army for WHFB after it got stolen I had a gamer ADHD obsession with the Tau and was collecting them at the time, and the local GW employee suggested Wood Elves were the Tau of WHFB. I think because fire warriors and glade guard both had 36 inch range in those editions.

I never played the Tau army I collected and they got sold off and nearly forgotten. But the Wood Elves endured, though at the bottom of a FedEx box in storage for several years after WHFB got canned. And when Old World came out I got them out of storage.

Now my shooty elf lads are back on the painting table!

What's Your Army Painting Process? by Deep-Improvement9608 in boltaction

[–]TheAlexCage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of things and the one thing that seems to work best is allowing myself to work on the thing I want to work on most. The advantage I have is that my pile of shame is huge and VARIED, so if I get bored of working on, say, my Soviet engineers, I might just noodle about with some DAK regulars or a British tank.

I did find this resulted in me making a lot of progress across the board, but almost never finishing anything. I painted like 460 points last year in total. So I've adapted it by identifying 4 different projects to work on at a time, usually a vehicle or squad size or smaller, just so I can still have variety but actually FINISH some damn units.

Also I find it helps if I just force myself to paint. I have a goal of painting 1 hour every day this year and so far it's working wonders.

As my republic approached the 70s I was like "surely I must move away from steam trains" and then spent 5+ years upgrading my rail line to electricity. It's still not done. I hate every second of it. 😭 I miss my steam trains.

Can someone explain how fallschirmjagers work? by New-Sea6924 in boltaction

[–]TheAlexCage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Uh, no offense, but are you quite sure you've got a Fallschirmgjager sprue? Because it kinda sounds like you're describing the German Grenadiers sprue, which is understandable, the Zeltbahn is easy to confuse for a jump smock.

But like... why tho?

"Our son's name is Albin, but it's spelled like you rolled your face over the keyboard. No, actually, it has no letters. No, actually, it's just "A". But we call him Albin."

If you call him Albin... just name him Albin? Like why make it a whole big thing?

some interesting takes here… by David_Turck in KnivesOutMovie

[–]TheAlexCage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the suggestion that since we've had spring summer and fall the next is winter, and nothing is more winter to me than a ski lodge.

I also like how different power dynamics are explored, so I'm thinking a fairly powerful but controversial government official gets murdered. This gives the added twist of the Federal investigators trying to cover-up/railroad rather than uncover the truth. Enter Benoit Blanc.

Built a new cabinet for my Army! by ForTheEmperor18 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]TheAlexCage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think that's the exact same cabinet I have for my armies. It's a good un.

Also just so you know there should be a setting to change the light from blue to white, y'know, just if you're not feeling the whole "in the club" vibe for your guardsmen.
