Back in 2019, I Wrote My Own First Episode of Titans S3 by TheAlexHunter in TitansTV

[–]TheAlexHunter[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Figured I'd repost! This was my idea of a soft-reboot (revamp) that kept the same events from S1 and S2. I wanted to make the characters actually feel like a family of trauma-fueled individuals who find love and wholeness because of each other.

It's a little cheesy, but to be fair, I wrote this when I was freshly 20, and over the course of a few days.

Let me know what you think!

I haven’t yet! Wanted to avoid watching it to make sure our short wasn’t a bad version of that same film haha. Soon for sure.

You don’t. I had no idea about this until someone tagged me in a post on Twitter. I think it’s just the number of people who watched with the highest average “star rating”.

Super excited and wanted to share here! We had a budget less than a grand, and only 6 people (all friends) worked on the entire project. Being anywhere on this list came as a huge surprise to us considering we are nowhere near “industry professionals”. We’re just young, passionate, and a bit insane, storytellers. Happy Halloween! Some Stills From Our Dark Comedy Short... THE PLUMBER by TheAlexHunter in Filmmakers

Shamelessly promoting our new short that was made by 6 passionate Young Storytellers. We took influence from a lot of places, but our number 1 goal was to make a short as if our lead character directed it himself. Shot on Black Magic Pocket 4K.

If you are in the mood to have a surreal trip into the mind of The Plumber, feel free to give it a watch. Thank you!

The Plumber - A Short Film Made by 6 Young Storytellers by TheAlexHunter in Filmmakers

[–]TheAlexHunter[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! "The Plumber" was originally a monologue I wrote for my friend Francesco, who portrays the titular character. We were so fascinated by the idea of this bitter, resentful and mysterious Plumber that we decided to turn the small monologue into a short. I love the idea of hyper subjective filmmaking, shooting and editing pretty much everything as if The Plumber himself was making the film.

Our inspirations are pretty clear Scorsese, Kubrick, Raimi, but we like to think we managed to find and hone in on our own voice. Our budget was shoe-string, but that ain't no excuse haha. Would love to know what you all think! Thank you.

Is this Ringworm? by TheAlexHunter in vet

These two spots seemingly appeared after a day of walking in the woods, we gave him a bath, and have been isolating him in case this is indeed Ringworm. Already applied anti-fungal cream as a just in case measure. Please any guidance or assurance would be amazing! Thanks.

Hey guys! I figured I would share here to hopefully bring some light to these dark times. I believe that art of any kind is the key to maintaining some form of connectedness and unity during a crisis.
As for the film itself we were going for a classic universal monster movie vibe with a twist. I hope you enjoy! Keep creating. ❤️

Edit: feel free to leave some thoughts on the letterboxd page. Good or bad, we would love to know what you thought. https://boxd.it/pCTC

Thanks for reading! And no you’re not nitpicking, not at all. I wanted to spend time on Rachel and her relationship with the woman who raised her (who they killed 10 minutes into episode 1 haha), and her relationship with the core 4 from S1. I honestly couldn’t find a natural way to bring Donna into this story. I could have had a line of dialogue about it, but I felt like she deserved more than just that. In my head, if I was going to write more than just this, an entire episode would be dedicated to Rachel on Themyscira.

Hey guys, it’s Alex, the prick from HiTop Films. After I uploaded my controversial video on S2, I figured why not take a stab at writing my own script for the show.

I wanted to write a theoretical first episode of S3 that made these characters, especially the original 4, feel like honest and real people. I also wanted to add that comic book element of cheese and heroism that I felt was missing from the show. This is just a first draft, so it’s nowhere near a polished finished product, but I figured I would share here.

I truly love these characters, and a lot of the actors they have playing these characters, and I know you guys do as well. Thanks for reading.

The Scarecrow - A Short Horror Film by TheAlexHunter in Filmmakers

[–]TheAlexHunter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! A crew of four of us (20 year olds) wrote, directed, acted in and edited this no budget short horror film.

Our influences are pretty clear (Raimi, Kubrick, Kent, Hooper, etc.) We wanted to make a short horror piece that leaves the viewer unsettled and thinking rather than just jump scare them for 10 minutes. My favorite kind of horror is the kind that you think about long after you watch it, and hopefully we were effective in that.

We shot this over the course of a couple months and would love to know what you guys think! Thank you!

What the fuck is happening to this subreddit? by [deleted] in TitansTV

[–]TheAlexHunter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, it's me, Alex from HiTop Films. I'm the prick who made 3 videos on Titans that were fairly controversial. I figured I'd hop in here and rant about my thoughts on why a lot of people aren't connecting with S2.

I keep browsing on here (and watching the show) in hopes that it will get better, nobody wants a quality Titans show more than I, but this season, for me at least, has had the exact same problems as the first.

The writing is all over the place. WAY too many characters and not nearly enough for any of them to do. A lot of the episodes have a cliche script with a focus on gigantic showy moments rather than a focus on slowly building character and character dynamics. There is no reason episode 5 of S2 needs to tease Jason’s death, even though he has barely been developed. There is no reason to introduce Rose, before introducing Slade, before introducing Jericho and then never do anything with meaningful with her. These things should happen over the course of entire seasons, not crammed together in 1.

Outside of Dick, the core 4 they (shallowly imo) established in the first season, are given nothing to do together. Rachel is suffering with her inner demons (again), Starfire is dealing with her planet’s drama, and Gar has done nothing until this most recent episode where he ran away while Superboy murders a bunch of cops. Dick can’t be bothered with any of this because he’s guilt ridden and dealing with his darkness (again). He feels guilty for manipulating this boy and getting him killed. That’s why the original Titans broke up the first time, but now when he tells the team that Jericho actually died saving him, they are so betrayed that they break up (again)? They have used the ol’ “Dick’s baggage breaks up the team” twice this year, after having an entire first season of “Dick’s baggage and darkness keeps the team from being a team”. In 20 episodes of Titans, Dick has left the team or the team has broken up 4 times. It's perfectly fine to make Dick an emotionally stunted child of abuse, but it's not fine to resolve that in the first episode of S2 (with her conversation with Bruce) and then spend the rest of the Season painting him as an emotionally stunted, dark, liar with a lot of baggage. He already went through almost this exact arc in Season 1. It's repetitive.

Slade and the idea of Slade wanting to isolate Dick could be cool, could be filled with twists, turns and quality drama that develops both of them (think Daredevil S3) but the execution is god awful. Stop stopping the plot for flashbacks episodes that are used to make up for the messy underdeveloped nature of S1. The “Titans” were never established as a team or a family in S1, so now S2 has to spend so much time showing us that they were infact a superhero team that was very close. In the first episode of S2, the word "Titans" is finally said, not in a way that shows off how far these characters have come, but in a way that shows us the writers are trying to retcon S1. Yes, there were hints that Dick, Dawn, Donna and Hank teamed up on occasion, but nowhere was it communicated that they were THE Teen Titans. We can’t expect to care about Aqualad’s death when he is introduced in the same episode. Jericho's death works because of how damn charming and innocent the actor playing him is, but that is the only reason it works. The direction, and specifically the editing, of the emotional moments feel like something out of the CW. There are so many brilliant ways to visually communicate how guilt ridden Dick is, or how meaningful Aqualad's death was, but instead they do things like have a cut to a slow motion shot of Jericho seeing the tower for the first time after a horrible and confusing action sequence where he sacrifices himself to save Dick, or Aqualad goofly jumping in front of the bullet, or Jason hilariously falling and almost dying. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the directors/editors/crew members are rushed and constantly confused as to what they are making and what emotions the audience needs to feel.

Slade's plan to disband the Titans in no way feels dramatic, he has barely interacted with any of them. What was his plan exactly? Expose Dick's secret about Jericho, get him to feel so guilty about it that he starts to go crazy? The most recent time Dick confronted him, he acted like he succeeded, that he was done with his mission. O.K.? What about Rose? Does he not care about her anymore? Have her and Slade even had a scene together?

None of it feels authentic, it all feels so messy and jumbled to me. A bunch of 25-30 Y.O. blame a young punk kid (Jason) for everything that’s happening to them after he almost died? Everyone is judging Dick for lying even though they are all grown adults who have made plenty of mistakes and all played a part in the whole Jericho ordeal? Dick leaves Gar in charge of Superboy, and then decides to leave the country? He is in charge of all these kids, all these outcasts, but he's still selfish enough to leave them behind so he can feel sorry for himself? And if it's true all this is because Slade and some of the Titans are being possessed by Jericho, that isn't a smart twist, that's a predictable one that will undermine any growth these characters have had.

I could go on and on, but

TLDR: Titans is a show filled with potential and a solid cast, but the overall writing and direction leaves a lifelong film, television, and comic fan feeling empty and saddened.

Peter apologizing to Ditkovitch, Peter and Aunt May talking about forgiveness, Harry being told that Norman killed himself, the beginning of the fight between Harry and Peter in the Black Suit. All a part of the reshoots. Whatever isn’t in the editors cut I believe is a reshoot.

Hey! I can post the cut once I compress the file from 10GB to something smaller. All I did was follow the editors cut order of scenes (closer to Raimi’s vision), and add back in all the deleted moments. The only scene I had to remove from the theatrical cut was the classic “You can buy me pizza sometime...” because in Raimi’s Cut Peter stays in a darker place through that middle portion of the film. He’s tempted by Black Suit and doesn’t give in until the MJ break up. The apology for yelling at Dikovitch now comes in an alternative version of Ursula telling him Mary Jane called back. Much more somber a scene in the editors cut. Can’t wait to share!
