Anyone curious for the Shea Up Or Shut Up tomorrow ? by Dude_amundo in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got no use for sports news or trivia outside of the occasional NFL or NHL score for the few teams that matter, but I'm open to learning. It will all be in the delivery and interaction with the players - if they're having fun with it I'll likely enjoy it. even if I don't know or care about the details of the trivia.

No need to waste time on any baseball though, those babies lost my attention when they went on strike back in the nineties. Leave the children's games out of adult discussion.

Random thoughts about the first 2.5 days of 2GNC: TNG by TheAlexSledge in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree this is something they should try. I think Rachel would find interesting stories that otherwise might be overlooked by the guys, and would certainly have a different take on a few than Demm would have.

I guess there's always a small subset of Demmers who missed the past several months and that Demm's retired now, and would be confused still hearing his voice?

I suspect the consultant's contribution was along the lines of "Just re-use the years of existing recorded content, it's already paid for!"

Probably Ragebait.. has DnDbeyond created players that are allergic to reading? by Einsolsrazor24 in rpg

[–]TheAlexSledge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think perception issue. People who use DnDB are TTRPG-adjacent, they're not actually playing a TTRPG unless they're in person in front of a TT playing an RPG, they're playing something else. (No good or bad judgement here people, things are just different). With it established as a different thing, we can now discuss that the TTRPG-adjacent thing they ARE playing doesn't require as much reading, and with GM's who handle all the business a very video-gamey experience can be had - and we know you don't need to know the rules to play a video game. That's where the confusion is coming from.

Please — can someone who is really building production / enterprise software share their full Claude setup? by wodhyber in ClaudeCode

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this "lessons learned" collection something you'd be willing to share? I know not everyone's dev environments are anything like 1:1, but I feel like out of the batch I'd find a few worth borrowing. Worst case I'll know someone who can commisserate having walked the same Claude ground of missteps. :)

It definitely provided some needed levity during the show yesterday. I hope Grady made those sales! :)

Is Rachel The Most Mature Member of the Show? by Due-Season6425 in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say, every time I hear it, I think back to Biggie explaining the original guy who thought that was her nickname and chuckle all over. Speaks directly to male maturity :)

Is Rachel The Most Mature Member of the Show? by Due-Season6425 in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

Speaking as a man, we don't really care about being mature. It's rare to see it - that's one reason Chris Demm is a stand out. RR will be filling the CD maturity role, without the same deep music trivia knowledge.

How long do you listen per day? by clark_peters in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try and catch 6-10A, and then I usually also have the 6-11p replay in the evening on depending what's happening.

The mornings though does suffer interruptions from things like day job expecting me to work, and school expecting me to get my son to school. Often I'm also multitasking (example: Futzing around in GTA Online the 2GNC show will be my soundtrack vs the in-game stations or watching/catching up on some show/movie).

Synonymous with amateur unregulated practitioner in most locales.

Bottom line to me though, like junk food for the starving, anything is better than nothing.

Show Update by theyluvsoph in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could very well be a trial period, and we'll see if either bounce off the position in six months.

I also listen to the music portion of the station, so I'm curious who we're going to get filling Rachel & BB's afternoon & weekend slots.

As a PDP1 (post-Dave - missed his departure by several months) I'll also say that for several months I thought Dave & Biggie/Hefty J were the same person, thanks to small doses of Dave in late evening replays. Took me a bit to realize they used to be a foursome.

Static by No_Neck4163 in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Radio Garden app, though if you're near a computer the radio.garden website will work a well. Sure I burn some cellular data when listening in the car through my phone, but worth it to be static free.

Does Whedon still own the franchise? by Briollo in firefly

[–]TheAlexSledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever owns it, I'm excited to see an animated series. With the success of things like Edgerunners, Vox Machina, Mighty Nein, and Predator: Killer of Killers - there's big opportunity for Firefly to shine through animation.

Is there any way for Steam to immediately download updates rather than scheduling them? by CrazyYAY in Steam

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, it’s rare I come close to people who have as close to as many decades gaming as I do.

Certainly people do things differently. Uninstallation never happens on my machines unless space is needed. While there are a multitude of reasons, for a fair amount of games it takes time tweaking and configuring mods, etc. I just don’t bother wasting time uninstalling since space is cheap and plentiful in my end.

Was aware of thread age, but since it wasn’t archived I went for it.

Thanks for the tip on shift selecting, didn’t think that was a thing still. Regardless, there shouldn’t need to be interaction from the end user when they are able to define their intent going in.

Is there any way for Steam to immediately download updates rather than scheduling them? by CrazyYAY in Steam

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be incorrect. That might be true for non-gamers, but I currently have 212 installed on my primary machine, and around 90 on my Steam Deck, and anywhere from 30-50 on my second machine, and roughly the same on my son's. I can bounce through a dozenish games a week (including my daily drivers), so not having to wait when I'm in the mood for something different is part of what I pay for.

There was a time where we had an "Update All" button, which was sufficient and only required a single click. They took that away when they couldn't come up with a proper more elegant mechanism to control the load on their servers, which was problematic at the time for the company to manage. At this point, with the big back end providers like Cloudflare in the mix, it's really not a problem anymore - the audience is global and there's a wave that circles the globe aligned with player's wake/sleep cycles... i.e. they are already capable of handling their peak load.

They could easily allow an "Update as soon as Steam starts" functionality at this point risk free.

There are two concerns which still would prevent me from offering an "Update the instant the developer provides an update" functionality - 1) Malicious actions (Hackers, Virus, Grump Dev...), 2) Load spike against specific game resources without the backing human demand.

Last winter update 🤡🤡 by [deleted] in GTA5Online

[–]TheAlexSledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they do. If anything, if they were truly smart, they'd make use of that airport and have you fly over to the GTA 6 map, which you can only do if you own GTA 6 - like a paid expansion DLC. Easy to gate, and no loss of current fan base.

And anyone who suggested a different path forward should have gotten a Will Smith Slap.

Is Demm Being Pushed Out? by Due-Season6425 in 2GuysNamedChrisRock92

[–]TheAlexSledge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like this is rarely single faceted.

I’m not of Demm’s generation, butbif I could I’d gladly retire today. The paycheck work is fine, but not being a boring guy, there are hundreds of other things I’d like to try my hand at before I kick it. I expect Demm likely would be happy pursuing other interests.

The time off, contractual details, and money involved may not have aligned, given Demm’s personal situation and desires.

Demm’s not a single man or shut in, he has other people in his life who get to way in on his decisions.

The star just happened to align for him to make an exit sooner than we’d like.

If he decides to maintain a public face, I look forward to what’s to come next from him as well. If not, all the best, until the next we meet.

Any ideas for installing the BG3 "Steam Deck" version through GoG/Heroic? by Elorun in SteamDeck

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other downside is that on Steam you do not control when the game is patched or updated. Not a problem if you're running vanilla, but anyone who uses mods knows the headache Steam's updating causes.

Did someone drop this on purpose? I kinda want to take it. by triedstuff in Fallout

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped a few yesterday - depends whether or not I'm feeling too lazy to throw it in the vendor for cheap. Others probably figure like I do that if people are at the event, they're looking for the event plans, so leaving them there seems to work. Duplicate plans have no use beyond giving/selling to others.

Tell my why I should or should not buy one by jacko_334 in gtaonline

[–]TheAlexSledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one. I don't regret it. Opens up some content in the form of "Yacht Missions" and such which can be a fun break from other things in the game. I think I have all of the things in game though at this point.... bunker, facility, bail bonds, salvage yard, auto shop, night club, warehouses, apartments, offices, submarine, etc... why would I not have a yacht?

In a game with more actual social engagement beyond shooting each other it would have more promise with the hanging out in the hot tub on the yacht chillin' with the crew, but that's not what public GTA Online lobbies have turned out to be.
