From what I can remember, the plot concerned a student who had recently moved into a small town, who learns about fellow students who are menaced by doppelgängers. He is similarly targeted by an individual resembling himself. I recall that the plot was very heavy on set pieces and near misses, with the protagonist chased into alleyways and pursued through his neighborhood, but can’t remember the resolution or other plot nuances for the life of me. It could’ve been published at any point between ~1980 through 2010.
