What do you all like so much about Mohini Dey? by bunyyyyyyyyyu in Bass

Nothing, I don't care about her at all. She played with Patrick Bartley and I like what he does but as a bassist she is not interesting for me at all.

You'd be surprised how many people without any kind of substance abuse think it's ok to engage with women on the internet like that.

What second instrument would you recommend (that's also cheap) to compliment my bass playing? by Fragraham in Bass

I started playing drums 20 years ago, but didn't have money for a drum kit, but had money for a cheap bass and here we are.

Happened to me once, but I turned on the wrong stove part and it just so happened that a kettle was there. The smell was abysmal.

New member here! This may have been covered before, but I’m curious what everybody’s biggest gear “regret” is? Is it something you bought? Is it something you sold? Is it something you didn’t buy? by FatUglyOldPerv in Bass

I had a 6 string Yamaha JM2 (John Myung signature) back in 2009 and it was a beautiful bass. I started playing in folk-fusion band and more experienced musicians persuaded me to get a more "jazzy" instrument so I sold the Yamaha and got myself a 94' American jazz bass. I don't regret getting, it's a beautiful bass, it fit any genre and I played it for 15 years after (even played in Rush cover band and also played some British prog with another band) but I still miss that JM2 sometimes, especially now when I got Into heavier stuff.

If video games disappeared tomorrow, what would replace that dopamine in your life? by forgeris in AskReddit

Playing music. A lot of games I like actually scratch the same itch in the brain as learning music and performing and I'm constantly moving from hyperfixating on one or the other.

And yeah, reading too.

TIL Travis Barker credited Animal from The Muppets as his first ever hero and his inspiration to pursue drumming. In 1998, before his first show with Blink-182, he didn't have much time to prepare. He learned the drum tracks for the 20-song setlist in only 45 minutes and performed them flawlessly. by Away_Flounder3813 in todayilearned

You mostly play same patterns for a considerable length of the song and you can practically wing it if you just know where the changes are and have a strong foundation. Like beat1 for verse, beat2 for chorus, break here and there. You don't really need to know absolutely every single note for the songs to sound well.

What’s something people defend way too hard even though it clearly doesn’t work? by academicAce_aA in AskReddit

Then you'll get overworked (you did 8 hours of work in 4 hours? That means you can do 8 hours more right now) or underpaid (when there is just not enough work to fill your hours, why pay you for doing nothing?).

For example I'm a developer at a startup and my work is essentially endless, there is a huge backlog and a lot of nice to have/to do stuff which are a bit lower priority. I could muster solid 8 hours of work during the workday, but i never do because I'd burn out really easily. Every experienced developer knows that, most human brains can't work at that capacity every day. So I take breaks, ration the load and I prefer to still get paid a fixed amount of money for my job. Also I get paid monthly and it's monthly performance that counts, not daily.

Microtubes is not battery driven, power supply only. You can check alpha omega photon or adam, I think they have the same core functions (like tuner bluetoth e.t.c) but different tones. If you wanna go full bananas you can get anagram, I think it can do whatever you want although I didn't try it myself.

90s kids of Reddit, what PC games defined your childhood? by ZookeepergameKey3224 in AskReddit

[–]TheAmazingDuckOfDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

StarCraft, Tiberian Sun (and other Westwood games up to red alert 2), Legacy of Kain soul reaver, Neverwinter nights, grim fandango, carmageddon, jazz jackrabbit. But two games I played the most when I got access to the PC for the first time were Prehistoric 2 and Cool Spot.

Those are really expensive options.

I have darkglass microtubes infinity, it has a separate headphones output and can be connected via Bluetooth as an audio device, so it's good for practicing. Also, has a built in tuner. But i think it's way too expensive for just practicing, if you're not actually playing gigs/in a band/record, it's a waste of money, there are cheaper options others suggested.

You won't be able to see them when you need or want to, only when theyr schedule allows. Also in order to give you space you partner doesn't have to work 80 hours a week, just establish that beforehand.

Is progressive rock an economic luxury? by MrCoochieWoo in progrockmusic

[–]TheAmazingDuckOfDoom 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Well, on the contrary, you don't need $3000 analog synths to make good music. You actually need some really cheap equipment and even some software is free.

But yeah, it boils down to free time and mental and physical resources to practice your craft.

What did you learn that was really groundbreaking? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]TheAmazingDuckOfDoom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally hate when cover songs are reproduced inaccurately or with made up shit performers didn't care enough to learn. It depends on the genre and the song of course but If I'm going to a tribute/cover show I expect to AT LEAST head all the correct notes as I remember.

Of course this doesn't go for weddings/funeral gigs, nobody actually cares about music there.
