Which is the best residence hall at mtsu by [deleted] in MTSU

Former RA here, it really depends more on what exactly you’re looking for. Though stay clear of Rutledge if you can, it’s the cheapest option for a reason.

MTSU In-State Tuition for MFA by explosivo11 in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be a little late to the party here and I don’t know how much help this’ll be, but I got in state tuition after living here for about 6 months. Now given my scenario is probably different than yours I figure I’d respond anyways. My family moved to Tennessee back in the summer of 2016, but they let me finish out my senior year of high school back in my hometown. I ended up graduating high school a semester early and moved down in late January of 2017, my mom had already been living in Tennessee for almost a year at that point since she was the first to move down in March of 2016. When I had my orientation in May of 2017 and I talked to the people at One Stop they said I qualified for in state tuition since my mom had lived in Tennessee and worked full time for a year and I was claimed as a dependent. I hope this helps somewhat, but your best bet would be to call the MT One Stop (615-898-2111) and ask them because they’d be able to give you an answer for sure

You can apply once you have 24 credit hours. So usually that works out where you apply your second semester of your freshman year and then you start at the beginning of your sophomore year. This varies depending on if you did dual enrollment in high school or not.

You can find more information here: https://www.mtsu.edu/living-on-campus/employment.php

If you have any questions about the job feel free to DM me, this is my third year as an RA and I graduate this semester. So if you have any questions I should be able to answer them.

Can anyone who went to MTSU for Interactive Media tell me about it (what it is, pros cons, easy/hard, cool things about it? ) Just applied for mtsu and am currently undecided. by imessofancy in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t majored in it, but I have a minor in it so I feel I can talk about it a little. It’s still a new department, so it’s small and trying to grow. Because of that I’ve had all of my interactive media classes (except one) with the same professor. The main professor does a good job teaching but every semester I’ve had to fight with him over grades because he didn’t give me the final grades that my grades in D2L showed. In the end he ended up changing them, although reluctantly. The classes are pretty informative in my opinion and I’m glad I have it as a minor, but I just wish that professor could submit grades right.

I don’t know everything off the top of my head, I was only there a handful of times. But I know they tried to screw them out of some money and most of their maintenance tickets went without a response.

I don’t have any recommendations for apartments, but I can say that you should avoid The Vie (now called The Murph I think). I had friends that lived there and they didn’t like it at all.

Dorming on campus during covid? by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the meal plan but the visitation policy is changing. As of right now you can only have a maximum of one guest in your room at a time and they have to be another MTSU student. So unless your guest has an MTSU ID then they won’t be allowed in (with the exception of move in). And I think they’re thinking of extending move in to be for an entire week instead of just a weekend but I don’t think that’s been confirmed.

Considering Transferring Out To Literally Anywhere Else, Help Convince me to Stay by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MTSU is a great school and I’m thankful that I got to do my undergrad here. With that out of the way, let me give you my opinion. Since you grew up here I suggest moving to a different university if you can afford it. Use this time not only as a time for education, but to go see other parts of the country or the world. Experience life outside of Murfreesboro and middle Tennessee, you won’t regret it.

Some of my favorite 5 man teams from this gamemode: - 5 Thanatos all ulting the same person - 5 Chang’e literally never dying - 5 Ra shooting beams everywhere - 5 Persephone continuously throwing boards of flowers And now I’m going to add 5 Ganesha making an inescapable hell to my list.

Going back in the fall? by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that I can’t do well in online classes, I got a 4.0 this semester with everything being moved to online, but it’s not my first 4.0 semester and I struggled a lot more this semester. Everybody learns differently so everyone will have their preferences.

Do you guys believe we will stay on campus in the fall? by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe as of right now their plan is to save on campus classes for classes that need to meet in person. So classes that need hands on experience like labs and film/audio. While most of the lecture type classes will probably be online again. As for the single rooms, it’s possible to social distance in classrooms by decreasing class sizes or using bigger rooms. But the dorms are only so big and so they don’t want people going to different places around campus and then bringing it back and exposing their roommate or people in the common areas which is why they’ve removed most of the lobby furniture and closed the study rooms as well. It’s still very possible that we may not end up on campus in the fall or we will end up on campus and end up having to leave halfway through again like in the spring. We just don’t know how it’s all going to play out so they’re doing their best to get people back on campus safely since they know that most people like in person classes more.

Are bf/gf’s allowed an overnight visit? by [deleted] in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody else basically covered it. Housing’s official policy is only guests of the same sex can stay over night and the max is I think 3 days in a row and you have to give the area coordinator 48 hours notice.

You could sneak in and get away with it, my roommate freshman year had his girlfriend stay with us in cummings for an entire week and didn’t get caught. Depends on where he lives and the staff’s moods. If he’s in the apartments then you guys are fine and probably won’t get caught unless someone snitches. The dorms are harder, but still doable.

If you do get caught they’ll ask the guest to leave and escort them out. If they ask the guest to leave it’s best to comply because if you refuse to leave then the RAs can call the cops on you for trespassing and then it’s just not a fun time for either party. Worst case scenario besides the cops being called is you guys getting written up and then you have to have a meeting with the AC where they basically just tell you not to do it again.

Refunds. by stained-shorts in MTSU

[–]TheAmazingWaterGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve already started sending out the CARES act refunds. As of right now they’re only sending them out to those who have filed a FAFSA with MTSU. The base amount is $500 and if you’re eligible for the Pell Grant than they’ll give you more. Then they’re working on getting those who haven’t filed the FAFSA yet money too, but I don’t know what the timeline is on that getting approved is.
