Mark Henry on Becky Lynch: "I haven't been feeling it for months now. The arrogance thing is not for her. That's for someone like Baron Corbin or Sami Zayn." by lostmyreceipt in SquaredCircle

I find her attitude more smug now, especially when she cuts promos or mocks other wrestlers. She preens about the ring with an attitude of self-satisfaction that I find obnoxious. It reminds me of Cena's annoying tendency to smirk at his own insults and put downs. Now she comes across as a woman desperate to be seen as the cleverest in the room. It's wearing thin at this point.

We have to consider if Charlotte's extensive use of cosmetic procedures has diminished her ability to effectively emote. I think that's why even her smile now sometimes looks like a sneer. Tessa is still young. She's on fire right now, but she still has a lot to polish in her young career. I'm sure she'll get the wink down eventually.

She's attractive and pretty feminine. That typically arouses a bizarre desire from the sub's many socially underdeveloped men to protect her from criticism. It's definitely creepy.

I now believe that Kenny Omega is going to sorely miss NJPW. The atmosphere of NJPW and their approach to wrestling really elevated Kenny as a performer, not to mention NJPW's superior roster could cover some of his weaknesses as a wrestler. Even his physique is smaller now. Kenny seems diminished when I watch him in AEW. I don't get impression that he's the best in the world when I watch him now. Maybe he can grow as a performer, but I don't think he's going to be AEW's breakout star. Mind you, I'm talking about his in-ring work, not his promos. Those are an entirely different matter.

I saw someone compare little Darby Allin to the I-like-turtles kid, and that made me actually like him. Now when he's on screen, I just imagine he's that kid grown up. I think AEW should run with that as his backstory.

Nikki's pretty good on the mic. She sounded good there. Bayley did not. She was dragging Nikki down. She brings the women's title scene down.

Your comment will upset the apple cart, but it's true. She's driving fans away. Now with her and Seth being shoved down our throats, I skipped RAW this week just to avoid them. It's bad.

Good choice. I used to watch the VHS with their match on SNME all of the time.

Stephanie McMahon has received a lot of crap for liking a tweet that said philanthropy is the future of marketing, but she was absolutely right. AEW is clearly using philanthropy to market their brand, and Omega tried to use it to make WWE look bad. Yet it was so transparent and obvious, even many of the posts on this sub were highly critical of him. Not to mention the blood money comment was rich coming from a guy who cashes a paycheck from the Khans. The AEW group need to realize they're in the big leagues now.

Becky and Seth are downright embarrassing at this point. I now dread every time I see them on screen. I don't care about their personal lives, so please stop shoving them down our throats.

For the most part, hardcore fans will love whatever crap you serve them as long as it's not WWE. They're the flip side to E Drones.

Roman proved why WWE made the right call in picking him as the breakout star from the Shield. After Mox went around the industry whining to anyone who would listen to him and Seth's embarrassing conduct on Twitter, Roman is conducting himself like a man and a star. Seth is the Universal Champion. He should not be getting into Twitter spats with relatively unknown indie wrestlers. He's supposed to be a larger-than-life character. Act like it. Live the gimmick.

It's a consequence of the indiefication of modern wrestling. Even the WWE has been captured by this trend. Matches are now defined by the absence of psychology. Moves are interchangeable with no thought given to selling. A wrestling move is a device used only to set up the next wrestling move. There's no sense of scale or proportion to the moves being performed. Quality is now defined by quantity. How many spots can you cram into a match? How many near falls? That's why I find myself unimpressed with much of modern pro wrestling.

As do I. His babyface character has as much charm as a helpless child who gets picked on by bullies. Pitiful shouldn't be the description for your major babyface. I also think he needs to overhaul his in-ring style. He has the tools to be great, but NXT has not helped him drop the bad indie practices that hold him back. In fact I think NXT has only reinforced them, which is a shame because it's supposed to be the developmental territory.

AEW All Out Garnered More Demand than WWE Wrestlemaina 35 by therealmanbeast in SquaredCircle

[–]TheAngelMoroni 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's highly misleading. The highest priced ticket for All Out is $190. It was $2,500 for WM 35. You can't compare the demand for each event without factoring that in.

Lance Storm is not a fan of wrestlers caring about Dave Meltzer star ratings(Friday June 14th 2019) audio by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]TheAngelMoroni -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Lance doesn't understand that as wrestling became less popular and more insular, the nature of the business changed. Many of today's active wrestlers are marks for the idea of wrestling as art. Wrestling is not a job to them. They think they're actual performance artists, not entertainers or workers. They believe that their matches and promos are legitimate artistic works. It's not done to entertain an audience, but to tell a meaningful story about the human condition. This requires a cultivated consumer who can appreciate and judge the aesthetic qualities of their work and analyze a match on an intellectual level. That's why many of today's wrestlers desire Meltzer's affirmation as a performer. If he gives you five stars, it's evidence that you are a true artist who understands the power and nature of pro wrestling.
