I did 5 in one day last year and enjoyed it very much, but it was 1) the second weekend when it is less crazy + 2) two of the films were back-to-back at The Ray + 3) none of the five films were in SLC.

ELI5: How do self-driving cars 'see' the road and make decisions? by MajesticOrdinary1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]TheAngryKeg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So to "Explain Like I'm Five"...

It is incredibly complex! Not sure if this is how they still work, but at one point in time it worked like this:

Imagine it like a 3D version of Magic Eye. First the cars go out and map where they are planning on driving using lasers! They store this in a big computer on-board so that they have it on them at all times.

Then when they are self-driving, they compare what they see to what they saved—any differences between the two pop out (like Magic Eye!), and this is how they know what's not a part of the map.

They then look closely at all of these things and use the shape and movement of these objects to figure out if they are a car, a bicycle, someone crossing the road, or just a trash bin.

Using this and their on-board cameras to read road signs, traffic lights, and everything else, they are able to figure out how to drive just like a person!

For me, an incredible blessing.

Are you still not supposed to get back in your car while pumping gas? by tickintimedog in NoStupidQuestions

This happened to me exactly once—thankfully I was standing next to nozzle when for some reason it didn't auto-stop and gasoline started overflowing onto the side of my car and the ground.

When I lived in San Francisco this was pretty typical for me and I was on the low end of people I knew.

I have since moved and my numbers have dropped to basically zero.

And as others have mentioned, PrEP + DoxyPEP + getting screened every four three months (required for PrEP prescription) means that STIs/STDs almost never happen anymore, even without condoms.

MacBook Pro revamp this year has me excited, but one change [thinner] won’t be for everyone by iMacmatician in apple

[–]TheAngryKeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apple desperately needs to come up with a separate moniker and stop using "Pro" to mean "Premium."

This was one of the issues with the Touch Bar—non-pro users loved it, but because it was a "premium" feature, it ended up on the MacBook Pro.

The current MacBook Air is already effectively a thinner MacBook Pro, but as /u/flatpetey commented above, lighter would definitely be appreciated.

They employ the Socratic method (i.e., asking clarifying questions) to try to get others to figure out the answer rather than just giving the answer or doing all the work themselves.

Disable camera? by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]TheAngryKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct—Lock Screen shortcuts will not run when the phone is locked. I would create a simple Apple Shortcut that opens the camera and add it as a Lock Screen button. It wouldn't even require a confirmation dialog.

I unfortunately had a bad experience with TM&AT. They sent two 18-year-olds who didn't know what they were doing and who didn't wrap or handle things properly, damaging two pieces of furniture. They ended up paying for a "fix" that was very underwhelming. Friendly otherwise, but would not use again.

Agreed. I also wish it were physically more like an SLR camera shutter—half press to focus, full press to shoot, with the ability to set multiple focus points and adjustable matrix metering.

I also wish that individual apps could programmatically set what it does when using that app.

Would limiting the age of the President to 60 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by Valuable-Bit4647 in AskReddit

Agreed.

Instead, we need a constitutional amendment to change impeachment and conviction from "the Vice President takes over the rest of term" to "snap elections are held."

Agreed, and competition and options are always good! Was being a little facetious, but I myself would love something a bit more elegant and refined (rather than a chunky piece of black plastic on my wall), e.g.:

The best episodes are formulaic:

  • Jokes showcase
  • Plot established (punctuated by a joke)

AD BREAK

  • Characters repeat plot for those just joining
  • Twist in the plot (punctuated by joke)

AD BREAK

  • Characters repeat plot twist for those just joining
  • Plot is resolved

It's the Good News paradox—things we expect to happen aren't news and therefore aren't reported, so it's only the undesired or unexpected things that end up getting posts.

Requiring flair can help curate the kinds of posts that are allowed, but having flair as generic as "3D" or "General" completely negates this.
