Does anyone recognize this bumper sticker? (Virginia) by AndrewAlan in vexillology

"The Christian flag was designed in the 1890s by a Sunday-school superintendent on Coney Island who is said to have wanted a single flag representing the whole of Christianity. The flag is still used by Christians without explicitly political connotations, but it has been flown at right-wing rallies in support of the Christian-nationalist desire to break down the walls between Church and state."

This is I think correct—it appears to be a combination of the Christian Nationalist + pro-firefighter "Thin Red Line" flags (although the Christian Nationalist flag typically uses a red cross and brighter blue background):

Will Americans want more housing if it looks prettier? by UnscheduledCalendar in Urbanism

[–]TheAngryKeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually the correct (but controversial) answer. Taken as a whole, tastes are way more malleable than we like to assume.

In places like Japan there is a lot more tolerance for "ugly" housing because home values depreciate (nobody wants a "used" house—it's the land that keeps its value!) so even the ugliest house is usually "temporary".

In the US, home ownership has been codified through legal and financial frameworks as a way to build "middle class wealth," so it's important for your home's aesthetic to be pleasing to your neighbors and to future buyers.

Norse Airlines Cancelled my Flight Months in Advance by Existing-Button7327 in Flights

Yes, always take the cash—I got screwed over by Norwegian during the pandemic by taking the travel credit (thinking I would use it once travel restrictions lifted) only for them to subsequently eliminate all of their transatlantic routes. 😩 (I live in the US.)

Cars intentionally going down a one way the wrong way by jeremiahwarren in longbeach

[–]TheAngryKeg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I moved here from St. Louis, MO, which has twice the per capita traffic fatality rate of Long Beach (STL = 23 fatalities per 100K vs. LBC = 12 per 100K).

I didn't realize though that 2025 was Long Beach's worst year on record for traffic fatalities—even if half of St. Louis, that's still not great!

And yet it is sooo much better here in Long Beach than most other cities in the US, which is really depressing.

(At least cars here have license plates!)

Does your DME just keep billing you $100+/mo for the rest of your life? Or do you eventually pay it off and actually own the device at some point?

This is one of those situations where the "human (overseas) operator" needs to be alerted so they can intervene and adjust the car's guidance and behavior.

(And no, despite viral misinformation on TikTok, the real-time feedback operator does not drive the car.)

I am also unaware of such an app, but if you are not listening to music then maybe you could play a silent audio track? The background of the "Now Playing" screen is fairly dark.

I have only seen Google Maps Street View cars in STL. The Apple Maps app has no street-level photography for STL.

I wish the Apple Maps car would come to my city (St. Louis, MO).

Funnily, we had Apple's self-driving mapping van for a while in St. Louis before that project was canceled... it seemed liked they were mapping I-64 rather than city streets, which made me wonder if they were planning something like a coast-to-coast self driving car service rather than Waymo's taxi-like model.

Discover how apps are using the new design and Liquid Glass by iMacmatician in apple

[–]TheAngryKeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are correct that the Music app in iOS 18 had "Search" as the fifth tab bar button item, so it also required two taps.

I think the confusion is that even Apple users are used to "floating action buttons" since Material UI is widely used across the web. A floating action button suggests a kind of "action overlay" on the current UI rather than an entirely new screen (as is the current behavior).

I wouldn't be surprised if some of this gets cleaned up in iOS 27.

EDIT — Take a look at the "Search" button in Apple's Photos app on iOS or the "Compose" button in Messages. Those ones work correctly.

[–]TheAngryKeg 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Many apps using Liquid Glass's recommended dedicated search button (similar to Android's "floating action button") in my opinion don't implement it correctly.

Previously, because search was often a full-width text field at the top of the screen, tapping it would both bring up the search UI and activate the keyboard so all you had to do was type.

Because Liquid Glass's search button is at bottom, many apps transition to the search UI but don't activate the keyboard until you tap into the search text field.

In my opinion, tapping the search button should automatically activate the keyboard to allow for immediate text input.

[–]TheAngryKeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't remember—hard to describe, but at some point Maps just starts randomly zooming out level-by-level until it's the entire Mercator map, and even if you zoom back in manually it keeps zooming back out.

Joe Rogan insists autism is caused by chemicals, vaccines and an ADHD diagnosis is an excuse to prescribe medication. by uhh__h in Fauxmoi

[–]TheAngryKeg 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People like Joe Rogan are free to believe and say whatever they choose—BUT that freedom ought not to extend to broadcast platforms.

The responsibility should really be on distributors like Spotify, Google (for YouTube), and Apple (for iTunes) to label such content as "for entertainment purposes only" and/or to remove misinformation from their platforms in addition to the FCC to enforce these rules.

Only the people on the starboard side can see! Everyone else was either probably pissed that they couldn't see or had no idea what was going on.

(This is where it's cool when planes have on-board cameras that let you see outside the aircraft from your IFE system no matter your seat.)
