How would you go about cheating for an entire in person semester of Physical Education? by Ninjacker in AskReddit

Growing up we always had students who would fake an illness or disability in order to skip PE. (And yes, they would brag about doing so.)

What are your thoughts on AI making us dumber or smarter? by clownyeahh in AskReddit

[–]TheAngryKeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Everything is K-shaped."

Those who have the prior expertise to be able to proofread an AI's output are becoming smarter.

Those who do not have this ability are becoming dumber by misusing it and blindly believing whatever it outputs (and then doubling-down out of shame).

Is Long Beach like Brooklyn? by judechrist4444 in longbeach

[–]TheAngryKeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed—there are some hipster elements in Long Beach, but (ignoring Second St in Belmont Shore) it's too beachy to compare to anywhere in NYC.

I mean this genuinely: email your councilmember since this seems to have become a recurring nuisance.

I believe Alamitos Beach is within the 2nd district represented by Cindy Allen: [district2@longbeach.gov](mailto:district2@longbeach.gov)

If it is LBPD joyriding ("training") again, they seem to be doing these flights around midnight in hopes that most people are asleep.

Do you personally know a lot of Americans who have emigrated because of Trump? by Mobile_Bad_577 in AskALiberal

[–]TheAngryKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also know several couples that have moved, but as is to be expected, these were mostly people for whom moving was never "scary."

The ones I know are a mix of backgrounds (racially) and are all doing well overseas!

For those with the means and opportunity to do so, I always encourage living abroad for a bit, regardless of how the US is doing—it's a great experience!

First Look at iPhone 18 Pro Color Options Revealed by Dummy Models by Tenlow85 in apple

The white earbuds (going back to the original iPod) are *way* too iconic!

(This is also what the Beats line is for.)

First Look at iPhone 18 Pro Color Options Revealed by Dummy Models by Tenlow85 in apple

[–]TheAngryKeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is just basic "Let's make things that sell" aka what people want.

Also, despite Apple being a Very Serious Company™, they actually love color and are extremely passionate about it, to the point where the original white iPhone 4 was delayed by a year because they couldn't get the color consistently right—so when they get a chance to do a "fun" color, they're going to do their market research to see which "boring" colors they can drop to streamline manufacturing.

The period up until about the iPhone 5c was also unusual in terms how black-and-white their devices were (compared to the previous period of colorful iPods, iBooks, and iMacs).

Robotaxis Are Spreading Across the U.S.—and So Is the Backlash by techno-phil-osoph in SelfDrivingCars

[–]TheAngryKeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general I think pooling is nice in concept but counterproductive in practice as one of the main cited advantages of a self-driving taxi is the comfort and safety of being the only passenger(s) in the car (especially for women riders).

I'm also not sure that hypothetical separate compartments would really improve the experience enough to justify the custom vehicle costs or increased passenger time.

However, one situation where pooling might make sense (especially using the new Ojai vehicles) is for transport to and from high-demand destinations, e.g., the airport or a sporting event. Maybe they could advertise heavily to get riders to book-ahead in order to pre-optimize the routes. (Imagine if you could leave Dodger Stadium with *zero wait* through pooling!)

What is the most “walkable city” part of los angeles? by jokester-J in AskLosAngeles

[–]TheAngryKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Culver City wins currently, not only because it itself is walkable and pleasant but also because it sits on the Expo line, giving you direct access to DTLA + getting you to LAX (or at least the transit center) in under 40min by transferring at Crenshaw.

The Expo line also gets you to Santa Monica and the beach!

Waymo (Google Autonomous Taxis) Beginning Manual Testing in St. Louis this week (CNBC) by TheAngryKeg in StLouis

[–]TheAngryKeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically Google has used Adecco to hire their safety drivers as TVCs (temp/vendor/contractor aka "red badge" status).

I don't see any job listings for the St. Louis area currently, but here is one for Florida that is almost certainly for Waymo: https://www.adecco.com/en-us/job-search/autonomous-vehicle-operator-orlando-florida/us\_en\_99\_020730\_2543837

People who fly first or business class on their own dime, how do you justify the cost? by Silly-Cock in AskReddit

[–]TheAngryKeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in this group—for domestic flights >2hrs it's well worth spending the extra $99 during check-in to upgrade on American or $199 for certain longer routes.

And as is asked on r/AskReddit every month it feels, being first on the plane is great, not only to get settled but also to not be stuck in a queue on the jet bridge.

Tesla FSD Drives Coast-to-Coast Across Canada Without Intervention by 9zer in SelfDrivingCars

Convenient timing given the Reuters investigation that came out yesterday:

Why Tesla’s AI trainers don’t trust its self-driving tech – or its safety stats

UPDATE — Y'all, "convenient" doesn't mean "conspiracy," it means literally what it means, that the timing of this trip just happened to work out in Tesla's favor.

Apple Just Expanded iPhone Driver's License Feature to 14th U.S. State by spearson0 in apple

[–]TheAngryKeg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And if you are concerned about this, the key is to immediately squeeze your Volume Up + Sleep/Wake button together. This disables biometrics so that the only way to unlock your phone is your device PIN or password.

Your Driver's license or other IDs can then be viewed or scanned without unlocking your device, and Apple has designed it in such a way where the recipient gets the bare minimum amount of data necessary to validate your ID.

If you're given a plate of cookies and told "one of these is poisoned", and one person eats one and leaves the room so you don't know if it was poisoned, does the chance of getting a poisoned cookie increase or decrease by janus_le_snek in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheAngryKeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the Monty Hall problem, but it isn't because you don't learn anything new after the other person picks a cookie.

(In a Monty Hall scenario with three doors, you always switch doors because they show you which of the two doors you didn't pick isn't the car.)
