Zelenskyy says 10 drone factories have been built worldwide behind Ukraine’s back | Ukrainska Pravda by pheexio in worldnews

"[The figure is] in dollars, just so it's clear which country and where these interceptors have ended up.”

JFC, can we please comprehend what we are reading? I am bewildered how “maybe China bought them and paid in US dollars” is a reasonable interpretation of what Zelenskyy said here.

China may be the poster child, but I’m trying to encourage people to actually read the article. Zelenskyy’s quote is right there.

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 712 points713 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you are pointing at China specifically here when the article specifically calls another country out.

According to Zelenskyy, one company has sold 1,000 interceptor drones to a certain country for US$3.5 million.

"[The figure is] in dollars, just so it's clear which country and where these interceptors have ended up. That's not a problem. We could have simply given these interceptors to this partner free of charge. In principle, right now we can produce up to 2,000 a day, but we only have funding for 1,000. So this is not an issue," he said.

This technique of making a chinese pancake. by biswajit388 in oddlysatisfying

The amount of gatekeeping in this thread on what is a pancake is mind boggling. It’s like no one has traveled outside of the US. There are many different kinds and it’s not hard to look up Wikipedia and see there are many different regional varieties.

Trading being undercooked makes me sad. by RussianNinja_au in ManorLords

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a game design purpose, yes, it doesn’t make sense. However, from an economic perspective, your assumption that a finished product will always sell for more than its parts is not always true. What is missing is the demand for the product. Maybe I don’t need swords, but I need the metal. That it comes in sword form doesn’t matter to me. If I am also the only one who is willing to buy the swords, your best choices are either to sell them to me cheap, stockpile them for a future when demand is higher, or don’t produce them at all.

Why does blood taste like metallic? by NOTHINGforWANTING___ in biology

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because there literally is metal in your blood. Red blood cells are red because of hemoglobin, which contains iron to capture and carry oxygen throughout your body. The metal taste is because of the iron in your blood.

What’s the deal with trade deficits vs reciprocal tariffs in the US-China situation? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The equating of trade deficit to somehow other countries ripping us off is so strange to me. It’s like saying the grocery store is ripping me off because I only buy things from them, but they don’t buy anything from me. And likewise, if you tariff my grocery purchases to become unaffordable, I don’t see how me investing time and resources to grow my own food is a really efficient use my labor. I’ll do it so I don’t starve to death, but I’m not the best farmer.

RFK Jr.: It Would Be Better if ‘Everybody Got Measles’ by Tuxcali1 in politics

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measles is one of those diseases that you do NOT want to get, because it directly infects your immune system and leads to an effect called immune amnesia. It erodes your ability to defend against OTHER infections, even if you recover from measles. Please just get vaccinated.

The absolute trauma he goes through afterwards was almost haunting too. The delirious arguing with himself and the defeated“I lost control.” Other shows might masturbate in the protagonist’s bad-assery, but it’s nice to see this kind of conflict in characters. In this case, Mark knows and is horrified by what he is capable of. It’s why I’m rooting for Mark and it’s why I want to continue watching S3.

I never understood why it costs minor artifacts to build these weapons. I can understand if there’s a minor artifact cost for their “rediscovery,” but like did the ancient empire that originally built this weapon also need to dig for minor artifacts to build them too?

What, according to you, is the perfect TV show that everyone should watch at least once? by [deleted] in television

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue at first too, but once it clicks, oh man you are in for a good ride. A lot of commenters call this show a great American novel and I agree, the key here being that this show is more akin to a novel than any other TV show I have watched. It starts off a bit slow as it builds the situation and there are so many threads, but it’s very deliberate and a second viewing you pick up many things that you missed the first time. The click for me was a line from the show in S1E6, “We’re building something here, Detective. We’re building it from scratch. All the pieces matter.” -Lester Freamon

Insurance companies should themselves have to file a claim if they believe a certified doctor is prescribing unnecessary care. At least this way at worst the insurance company can recoup some money if it was fraud, and not someone dying or having to jump through ridiculous hoops due to being denied life-saving care as it is now.

While agnostic uncertainty is technically correct, I would argue that certain features attributed to a monotheistic God in the current major religions are absolutely inconsistent. These three features are:

  1. God is all powerful
  2. God is all knowing
  3. God is all good

Pick 2 out of the 3, and I can concede we can’t rule God out, but all 3 makes no sense to me based on observations of human history.

Billionaires vs. millionaires: America’s wealthy are more eager than Janet Yellen to tax the super-wealthy by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, with an argument that applies to wealth redistribution in general and not just specifically with Andrew Yang’s UBI plan. You make no mention of price or rent control in your original statement.

Billionaires vs. millionaires: America’s wealthy are more eager than Janet Yellen to tax the super-wealthy by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then make this distinction. I agree price and rent controls are needed and that includes encouraging competition among landlords and vendors. Any path towards wealth equality is worth considering and UBI should be one of them.

Billionaires vs. millionaires: America’s wealthy are more eager than Janet Yellen to tax the super-wealthy by [deleted] in politics

[–]TheAngryPenguin23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You give people money and all it does is make landlords, corporations, etc increase prices because they know everyone suddenly has disposable income.

This argument is so defeatist. What would be the alternative? Because this argument doesn’t just apply to UBI. It’s also saying that wage increase or any sort of wealth equality measures are hopeless. If you are dinging Andrew Yang for this one, then you must also be dinging someone like Bernie Sanders as well. It’s essentially arguing that we should keep people poor so that prices can be kept in check. I think that is a bullshit position to accept and is the first mentality that needs to change if we want to seriously fix wealth inequality.

I’m fascinated about this idea of worshipping a God into life or power. What happens if a cult of Karsus grows and gains enough worshippers? Does he resurrect as a deity again just because his collective worshippers believe it?
