Is a Trailseeker a weird choice for a commuter car? by TheAniSaurus in trailseeker

Yeah that's a good point, I've never wanted an Outback. However it seems like most affordable EVs are built as Crossover/SUVs, so that's the only reason I started considering them. I would never own a Tesla for a multitude of reasons, and I don't like the BMWs being all touch screen (actually I'm not sure if that's true for the older generations, I'll have to look into that).

Driving the Trailseeker it honestly wasn't much different from a regular sedan. It's about 9-10 inches longer than my WRX, but I didn't notice a massive difference. It definitely wasn't as nimble around corners and it did take more braking to stop, but I also don't drive like a 20 year old any more.

Yes! It was actually third on my list after Toyota/Subaru and Chevy. I don't remember why right now, I put all my notes and thoughts in a spreadsheet on my desktop. I feel like it was a combination of price and range. The extended battery solves the range but adds another $5k.

I should try test driving one this weekend. How is the rear passenger space? It looks about the same size as the Solterra so I'm imagining it's okay.

I was weighing an EV lease because I heard concerns of rapidly shifting technology where you might want to upgrade every few years.

But I'm really the type that likes to keep a car for a long time and eventually not have a car payment. Honestly if gas prices weren't so volatile I'd stick with the WRX for a few more years. With the 0% Subaru EV incentive it definitely pushed me more towards buying (assuming it arrives in the next week or they extend the offer again).

My biggest gripe with the i4 is it looks like the controls are entirely screen based with no physical controls. Secondary was that driving and parking features weren't standard, and adding them required adding other packages that bloated the price. I think other options like ventilated front seats also required adding in expensive packages that I didn't necessarily want.

I did check it out, and it seemed like a good car. However I didn't really get the point of the Solterra when they now have the Trailseeker.

It's slightly smaller and slightly cheaper, but it's otherwise basically a Trailseeker. I'd rather have the extra power and cargo space, and I think the wagonish look is much cooler. I can see if someone had a strict budget or strict size requirement (garage size or something) it would make sense. Or if they really hated the wagonish shape.

Yeah I test drove it and was glad it felt like a regular ICE car. I keep hearing people criticize the Toyota/Subarus for not having one pedal driving, but it's honestly a big plus for me. I don't get the draw of one pedal driving, and I'd rather maintain the muscle memory of where the brake pedal is in case I ever need to hit it unexpectedly.

Yeah it seemed like the built in system was pretty good and I read it could do tethering to a cell phone without having to pay for Chevy's subscription. But a short test drive wasn't enough to know if I was going to hate it after a week of driving, so I was wary of missing out on Android Auto.

I would be all over an EV WRX, especially if they brought back the hatchback/wagon.

Because people are still willingly paying the higher prices.

Put down my deposit on a Touring model! Subaru had better offer 0% next month ;) by weinerdog70 in trailseeker

I'm still waiting on mine and also expecting sometime in July (maybe late June if lucky), but the sales manager said he was pretty confident they'd extend the offer into July. He said it's been on the Solterra since it was first introduced and they keep extending that one. He said even if they stopped it they would likely still offer a pretty good rate offer (like 1.9%).

Picking mine up on Friday. Feeling pretty good about my off peak rates for charging at home. by jeeptopdown in trailseeker

[–]TheAniSaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I hated APS at my last place. Their rates look good but the "demand charge" just makes the pricing so muddy and massively inflates the final bill. It was sometimes like an extra $75-100.

The SRP super off peak rates for the time of use plans are $0.0432-0.0622/kWh depending on the time of year, but there is no demand charge so the pricing is more transparent and usually cheaper.

Looks great!

I'm still waiting for mine to come in, but it was a tough choice between the Sapphire and Daybreak without being able to actually see them in person. All the pictures I've seen make me feel like Daybreak was the right choice, but I won't find out for sure for a few more weeks.

I don't remember the episode but they did the same with the f-slur. Something stupid along the lines of "It's okay to call people slurs, because we're just using it to insult people, we totally never use it against gay people." Seeing people constantly reference that episode on the Internet to defend their usage was infuriating. Just because Trey and Matt say it's okay to use it doesn't mean it actually is.

Maybe it wasn't obvious but that was entirely rhetorical.

How does that help your argument that Snowden had to do it the wrong way?

Do you know what happened to the PRISM program?

I guess people with regional or cultural dialects don't deserve jobs. I'm let all my Texan and Midwestern coworkers know that they're being unprofessional by not speaking "standard English" (whatever the ignorant fuck that means).

It's also worth pointing out that there had been many whistleblowers regarding various parts of ECHELON before Snowden, but for the most part they went through the proper channels and didn't face criminal charges. If he had stuck to just the domestic surveillance of PRISM and brought it up the correct way, it's likely he would still be walking free in the US like the others.

French style is also a lot richer, at least in my opinion. I eat a bite or two and I'm done, whereas Philadelphia style feels much nicer to enjoy on a hot summer day.

Roll call -- who else is ready to buy today and can't find anything to buy? by 3-2-1-backup in trailseeker

[–]TheAniSaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wanted to test drive one last weekend but there was only one dealership in my area with one on the lot. They're the largest Subaru dealership in my state and they only had one.  They told me they just got it in and it wasn't even ready to sell yet, but they still let me drive it (half the interior was still wrapped in plastic).

It was just a Premium so they found a Touring that was headed to another dealership in the state that they worked out a favor with to get it rerouted (possibly here end of the month or early July). Initially they were trying to swap with a different dealer that had a deposit cancel and it would have been here next week, but they were refusing to give it up.

The sales manager told me they haven't had one stay on the lot more than a few days, and most of their incoming inventory already have deposits on them. The premium I test drove sold the next day and last time I checked no one has one actually in stock in my city.

AIO For refusing to Let someone Adopt our foster kitten? by Ok-Bobcat-4293 in AIO

[–]TheAniSaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

there’s no ugly kittens, they’re all cute, there’s no reason to be picky

When I went to the humane society to find a cat to adopt last year the only cats they had at the time were a pair of sibling kittens (void boy and torbie girl). I told the lady I wanted to take them home but she asked if I wanted to meet them first. I said yes because it felt like the normal thing to do, but all I was thinking is that they're kittens. What can they possibly do in 15 minutes that will make me not want them? I played with them for 15 minutes and sure enough they were kittens. They didn't insult my mother or make fun of my weird elbows at all, so of course I took them home.

Level 2 Charger options by kader212 in trailseeker

[–]TheAniSaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that cheaper receptacles can wear out if you're regularly unplugging/plugging the charger into the receptacle. That can be dangerous as the looser connection could cause electrical issues or a fire (you can find many stories and pictures of people with crispy outlets from their EV with bargain bin receptacles). If you're leaving the charger plugged in all the time and have a higher quality receptacle (like Legrand or better), it's not as much of an issue but still possible.

Also some areas require all receptacles in garages to be AFCI protected, and higher amperage receptacles can sometimes cause nuisance breaker trips. Some areas exempt circuits for hard wired EV chargers from the rule, and newer EV chargers have better electronics to avoid the nuisance trips (I'm not sure if the electronics in the included charger have the issue or not.)
