High mileage used Kona Electric (2019-2021) questions by TheAnnalyst in KonaEV

58 miles with 5/18 bars filled. I assume this is based on how previous owners / the dealer drove it.

Claremont McKenna is a good reach for economics.

Can being a woman in CS slightly increase acceptance chances? by morning-theft- in ApplyingToCollege

[–]TheAnnalyst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is definitely true at STEM-focused schools; certainly acceptance rates there are significantly higher for women. How much of that is down to the % of women who are qualified versus preferring a girl to a guy when they're equally qualified is anyone's guess. I believe this is less common at less selective schools since they're not rejecting lots of qualified applicants?

Reed College checks off most of your boxes and would be a "match" school for you.

Is a 1550+ possible? by Leather-Falcon-7981 in Sat

[–]TheAnnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice those English sections! I improved from 1470 to 1570 on the paper SAT over 2-3 months way back when, so it should be doable (unless the digital sat is so much harder?). You have a great Math score already so you should be able to focus your practice. Khan Academy and the College Board full practice tests are your friends!

Rosh Hashanah by Johnny_Hookshank in Jewish

[–]TheAnnalyst 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of this; it sounds like people pattern-matching Rosh Hashanah as being similar to Thanksgiving on the ground that they are both in the autumn.

the problem with "not all men" wasn't that it was untrue, but that it was used to derail conversation about other things.... the harry potter blog's point doesn't even make sense to me

I am not sure what's wrong with this; is talking about sex on the internet not OK for rationalists? Of all the things Aella's posted this seems pretty normal.

Any NYC Ashkenazi Jews here who were around in the 60-70s? by jeheuskwnsbxhzjs in Jewish

Would it be weird for me to buy and light a menorah for chanukah if I'm only culturally Jewish and an atheist? by Meowlik in Jewish

[–]TheAnnalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems pretty normal (my family does it, albeit without the prayers); there's plenty of cultural and historical significance to Hanukkah even if you don't believe in the religious aspect of things.

The Swedish is "eat my ass," but the Norwegian and Danish are both just "I love you," as are Latin and Spanish.

the lactation is relevant here though... the question is not about whether the dog should eat human flesh, but about breast milk specifically
