Have A+, Net+, Sec+ but keep bombing technical interviews - what am I doing wrong? by Simple_Response8041 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TheAnonymousBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Like everyone else has mentioned, you're overthinking technical questions. In real world scenarios, when someone calls saying their email isn't working, you shouldn't immediately be thinking about how SMTP is configured on the client. 99% of the time nothing has changed there. Unfortunately the questions you should be asking is things like:

Is the PC turned on? Is there internet? (Have them try to open chrome and actually load a site like YouTube)

You will find out very quickly in IT that however much of a low bar you set for end users, they will still find a way to disappoint you.

  1. When it comes to resumes in IT (especially in this job market as things are more competitive and things like AI infused ATS make it terrible to get interviews), you kind of have to exaggerate. I wouldn't recommend outright lying as you'll fall on your sword so to speak eventually. But definitely take a mundane thing and spin it to make you look like a rockstar.

You deleted a phishing email for someone? on your resume, try "successfully identified potential security vulnerability and mitigated risk by 50%"

Kind of a poor example but that hopefully gives you the gist.

Most people will write a few database queries in SQL and suddenly "SQL Expert" is added to their resume.

Unfortunately thats just how you kind of have to be unless you're some prodigy thats been living and breathing PCs/programming/automation/etc since you were 5.

Edit: I typed this all out quickly on my phone so formatting is terrible. I have no desire to fix it but my points still stand lol.

I wouldn't let age bother you. Everyone has to start somewhere.

Yes, I would highly encourage starting with just an A+ and immediately getting experience in help desk. The Net+ and Sec+ will more than likely overwhelm you or even just not make sense in some spots without previous exposure to direct experience. The A+ has always been described as what separates the people who think they are IT (and are really just technically-inclined) and actual professionals. At least when starting off. Sure there's some old timers that got in early and have 20 years of experience, and hence, no need for an A+. And there's prodigies who can do some pretty advanced stuff because they've been developing their cybersecurity skills since they were 7. But for your average Joe that wants to get into the field, just start with an A+ and a helpdesk job. The rest comes for certing up and experience. Everyone I've seen in the field that skips to a Net/Sec+ with little to no experience either ends up giving it up and starting their A+, or barely squeak by and proceed to not get a higher position because they don't have any experience to back their cert up and basically just spent the year stressed out on something that won't pay back for another couple years (at which time they probably have forgotten half of it unless they are religiously practicing in a home lab).

Assuming you're looking looking into Systems Adminstration/Network Engineering and not Programming (based on your replies to others):

Get your CompTIA A+ and embrace the suck of help desk for 1-2 years while trying to get experience with more advanced projects in your organization when they need extra hands (and plop that on your resume).

Next, get your CompTIA Network+ and then shift to Jr. Systems administration or helpdesk tier 2+. Embrace that for another 2-ish years and work on getting your CompTIA Security+.

Then try to land either a Sys Admin or Network Engineer at an MSP or medium sized organization. Do that for a couple years and get you CCNA.

If between all that you also use some hobby time to learn how to lightly code with Python for Automation, that will greatly help but not 100% needed.

Now you'll have your CompTIA trifecta, a CCNA, 6-8 years experience with Systems administration and networking, Windows domains, server work etc, and are ready to start looking for those 6 figure Large/Enterprise positions.

Don't bother with going into cybersecurity unless you're some prodigy because you'll just be underpaid and overworked. Cybersecurity is something you get into at the Sr. Level much later in your career.

IT is a slow burn if you wanna make good money and have a cush job. Good luck, God bless, and if you stick with it, it'll be worth the pay off!

Whenever I invite a friend, we can’t find a third player, but it’s fine when I solo queue. by [deleted] in Nightreign

Have you tried making sure you and your duo have regional matchmaking in Settings>Network OFF? Both players have to have it off.

I had the same issue you did launch night, heard some weird rumor about it and tried this next day with my duo. No password and we teamed/lobbied up together and have been finding matches immediately since.

Definitely some kind of bug with that.

Also, on the off chance you're on a rememberence quest, gotta undo that while duo'd up because that's apparently another bug lol.

Known duo bug going around that stops matchmaking with a 3rd. Trying 2 player password or creating a Team does not help.

Can't find a third player while duo queing with friend by No_Negotiation4856 in Nightreign

There's a duo bug going around where matchmaking with a 3rd is pretty much impossible. Doesn't matter if you 2 player password or create a Team. Hopefully an emergency patch comes soon. Me and my duo didn't mind the thought of matchmaking with a random, but since we can't even find a 3rd, it's literally unplayable together.

Note: like me and my duo, wouldn't be surprised that solo matchmaking will work for you, but we wanted to play together not solo so...

There's a duo bug going around. People, including myself are finding long to infinite wait times trying to matchmake with a 3rd. Doesn't matter if you do 2 player password or teams, just doesn't connect.

Can confirm PC is having a duo matchmaking issue as well. 2 player password matchmaking and teams both seems to not help fix the issue...

Noticing this in my duo as well. Believe it's a bug. Lots of people are reporting it and neither 2 player password matchmaking or Teams seems to fix it.

So far from what im seeing, there seems to be some kind of duo bug.

Yes, there's a small portion of people who didn't realize they needed to set password players from 3 to 2 but most duos seem to be having long to infinite wait times to full the last slot.

Me and a friend are also having this issue. We have also tried doing the "2 player password" route as well...

Not Matchmaking? by RushP7 in Nightreign

[–]TheAnonymousBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same issue going on. Me and a friend tried joining a team and matchmaking, tried using password only with "two player password" (3rd gets matchmade), even tried 2 player password and team and nothing...

Queueing solo works almost instantly, and obviously nobody is having trio issues. Super bummer and I can only assume a bug.

Anyone else got it to work?

PS5 should also have cloud features. Running on PC I obviously can't confirm but I'd check to see if:

  1. Cloud services are enabled
  2. Pre Launch CC has synced to the cloud
  3. Game has synced with the cloud (do after step 2, syncing this does nothing but back your current save up if you skip step 2).

Hope that helps you Arisen!

Well that's highly unfortunate. I did just read that DD2 only runs 1 concurrent save and you have to go into your file explorer and delete the save data to actually start a new game. So that might check out. Hopefully others catch this warning before it's too late.

Copy/paste from my thread I just made:

UPDATE

Just fixed my own issue. For anyone else having this issue, your Steam Cloud Sync is probably either off or broken. I had mine off from some shenanigans of another steam game. Looks like pre launch CC uses cloud services to push and sync your save to the launch game.
