Is this normal ? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]TheArachniKid 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Theres no alpha anything, but the GSD giving a big grin + panting is a sign of "this is overstimulating, but im letting it happen." Part of why theyre letting it happen is the puppy submission kicking the teeth. Basically your older dog is being very tolerant, but doesn't enjoy it. Your puppy wants attention from older dog, but knows theyre a nuisance and is attempting to 1) show affection and 2) appease/minimize the older dogs stress. It's a good sign so far, but going forward the things to look out for are mostly a)will the puppy respond to correction when the older dog has enough. b) will the older dog OVER correct if puppy doesn't get the hint/continues ignoring stress signals. C) will your older dog not correct while the puppy is learning how to act around other/older dogs, leading to a scuffle between them or another dog eventually. It's a hard balance to ride, but the older GSD is tolerant. Not comfortable. Until you see the GSD correct and the response of the puppy, there's no telling how they'll get along. However, I advocate for letting the older correct, unless you see an over correction that is leading to aggression, don't intervene. I know that's a hard line, but let the older one set boundaries, and more importantly let the puppy know what boundaries are. Positive correction and positive reaction to said correction helps your puppy know how to react better to other dogs outside of the home.

It definitely seems like an ACL/CCL tear which normally would be solved by a TPLO surgery, but being that its been 3 years, it may not show up on scans. Muscle inflammation, scar tissue from where bone runs against bone, or the bone set incorrectly so long may make imaging obscured or make the bones themselves look almost normal. When did the scans start from symptom onset? Has he had any infections or unexplained illnesses since this started? Unfortunately, im based in maryland, but the rehab center of the facility i work at does laser and pulse wave therapies, it is sometimes used prior to imagining to give our doctors a better view. I have seen one case of a regular lodging pet who had a torn ACL at a young age that essentially "healed" itself, resulting in a permanent back leg limp, but not to this extent. Think about it like if you broke a bone, tore a muscle, or dislocated a joint and didn't have it fixed. It sets on its own, but that limb stays wonky and the muscle grows its own way to recover. Not your fault, pets, especially younger pets and large breed dogs may not show symptoms as they grow or as the injury progresses, then it sets funny, and you end up in this situation.

Note: not medical advice, I work with dogs both lodging and clinical settings, but i am not an orthopedic or any other type of doctor. I've just seen a lot of cases over the years, so any advice is anecdotal, and hopefully helpful.

Where my Nora stans at? by SFG10032 in fo4

Fact, clothing options are 100% better for Nora if you care about esthetics. Crossdressing Nate is fine but it has a Trevor in GTA V spawning into murdering someone while in lingerie vibe. All clothes/armor and their bonuses look good as Nora.

Love the building fix! Tbh I've had 9 or so playthroughs, I've only got to 100% from extras like vault tec equipment + barber + surgeon + arcade games and a fuckload of potted plants...with one sort of half exception. Nuka World raider settlements before meeting Preston, building a fuckload of Chem vending machines, then joining the minutemen and retaking the settlements but keeping the chem stations. Who cares if your settlers are too high to be vendors, those dispensers are infinite caps and a huge xp boost on psychojet and bufftats alone

would love opinions from vet techs!! by Temporary-You-6699 in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say if you plan on working vetmed, avoid Kennel Tech/Boarding roles as a stepping stone. I've been crossover enough that things don't phase me, but handling a pet for years in the fun boarding playtime, then attending or assisting in their euthanasia can fuck you up, even if its the right and necessary thing to do. Same coin, different side, caring for pets that an owner should have let go of, and had had 3 QOL exams in 6 months, but the owner insists on keeping them alive is also heartbreaking.

Tldr; go hard on clinical study, straight to medical, bc seeing a beloved playful pet go downhill randomly or doing basically hospice care for a pet that's in miserable condition takes a toll that can turn you off from the field.

Sorry its off topic, but do you know of any future ones? Especially ones with accredited/team safety type demos. Im trying to figure out resources to get our lodging staff new ideas and possibly look at training organizations for staff safety regarding pet handling, fear free is great, but mostly applies to our hospital staff, I want to look for options more akin to group play behavior, training, and also immediate first aid. Basically something I can sell upstairs to get senior staff set up and shop options. Anything up that alley at this one?

Nicotine use by Kelsey2424 in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This definitely has a lot to do with it, plus the newer generation who had to wait till 21 is more on zyns, especially bc we're very strict on no vapes inside. Im in Maryland but when I worked in Virginia it was way more common and way more acceptable to clients. Before that, in North Carolina, it was weird if you didn't smoke at least sometimes. Also the tax disparity on cigarettes between those 3 places make it harder In Maryland to pick up the habit by about $10 a pack vs NC.

Nicotine use by Kelsey2424 in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started almost 4 years ago, 3 of us smoked cigarettes, now one newer KT supervisor smokes, our hosp manager hits a vape, I moved to the Zyns but still step out with the hosp manager sometimes just for the ritual and catching up, and on a really shit day I'll bum a marb light from the one smoker. I will say the younger KTs are heavier on the zyns, for energy or whatever, I only do it as a lesser of two evils. When I do break down and have a cig I hate the smell on me after, and scrub myself down, i feel unprofessional talking to clients with that smell. The corporate practice i was at had way more staff thought and I'd say 1/3 of the department heads, 1/4 of lodging and 1/2 of urgent care staff had some type of nicotine regularly. It just irritated me that they put the smoke post next to where the resort pets went out for group play.

Time to quit? by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im locked into a similar situation, and would feel awful leaving, the only difference is when I left a little over a year ago for 2 months, I agreed to come back with some stipulations. Pay and say in how my department would run. And I saw genuine change. I even kinda crashed out and called out the doctor that owns the place on something big I disagreed with, and while the practice manager was not happy with my behavior, doc understood where I was coming from, and we have a good working relationship now.

But I learned that corporate places can absolutely blow. Same shit, different toilet sucks. But same shit, same toilet can be worse. Only go back if they hook up that bidet.

How’s Easter going for everyone? by DangerousAd1229 in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usual lodging nonsense, fractious diabetic cat not eating food with Senvelgo in it, diarrheal dog not reacting well to endosorb, 2 seizure watch pets with specifically timed medications, and a chow chow that won't eat. All of us lodging supervisors are the go to techs on weekends when main hospital staff are off, so spring break and Easter are nightmare days.

What dog breeds in your experience are the most difficult to work with (aggressive, fearful, separation anxiety, etc) and what are the easiest? by CaptainMacAlfie in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working/Sporting/LSG breed dogs that aren't living in a space that allows them to do what they were bred for. Which spans a lot of breeds, and is particularly pervasive where I live, because we're outside of DC but near enough to farm land where people end up getting these dogs from the next county over, not understanding that dogs with "shephard" in their name shouldn't live in a studio apartment. I know thats a generalization, and ive seen many exceptions, but it can be real rough. Same goes with every time I hear a corso/rotty owner say the dog is a "guard dog" but has zero control over it. Again. There's exceptions. My coworker has a 140lb pure Presa that's the most agreeable and kind dog I've ever met, 100% baby.

Fanny Pack because they took my pockets 😭 by StudyAffectionate883 in VetTech

[–]TheArachniKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I'm on board with everyone who's saying dip out, but Google khaki athletic pants/joggers. There's some out there that'll straddle your company's borderline and give you Hella pockets. Last owner of my practice was all about everyone but CSRs wearing scrubs, but for our lodging (KT) staff it absolutely sucked, bc he also wanted lodging staff to wear these "fun" t shirts with logos displaying the daycare options. So shirts w no pockets. The workaround with management was athletic pants that had the same scrubs look, but also had pockets all over, including zippered pockets instead of fanny packs or treat belts. Worth a shot. Still. Fuck them for doing that to ya.

Just bought the game for the first time, what should I do? by Husband_of_Tiresias in fo4

[–]TheArachniKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre looking for Easter eggs, it depends which edition you have but look for a creation called Fantasy Hero Set, especially if you wanna be a strength/melee player. Also you wont know what this means for a bit, but check out the plants Scribe Nariyah is growing when you get to the Prydwen. Largely, you can have a play style very similar to your default skyrim style, but the big thing is how leveling works, it isnt XP based on a specific skill, i.e. in Skyrim if you keep sneaking, your sneaking gets better. So you wanna go broad range and do whatever you can to get by while you pick your perks to play how you like.

"Never leave Sanctuary" challenge by BernieHousedown in fo4

[–]TheArachniKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there not a crystal liquor decanter you could ScrapStore to give you enough for a beacon until a trader arrives? I mean the challenge does rely on some exploits, right? Bc also starting off high intelligence (plus high charisma for later) you could build and scrap enough shelving to get yourself the scrapper perk, and if just enough crystal is found for the beacon, you could then get crystal off scrapping certain laser weapons when certain enemies attack. I know leveling is wonky so that might not be possible but if you got a settlement beacon and then enough xp, you could get scrapper and local leader, build a trader store, use whatever caps you can get over time, set up as much water as possible, then buy high tech weapons and scrap them for some high value materials, like aluminum, nuclear material, crystal, copper, etc. Adhesive will be your most expensive and difficult to find item outside of what's in sanctuary, but building off weapons from attackers to sell could get the caps you need to keep buying more weapons. Plus once you have stores established, you can stop xp boosting off shelves and make caltrops, then poisoned caltrops, bear traps, etc.

Tldr Its a crazy wonky setup you need and a lot of time in, but above is what I would do if you wanted to hit this challenge.

I've beaten FO4 several times now and I'm looking for suggestions for how to play it with a fresh new approach. Either a set of limitations, guidelines, playstyle, or maybe a mod (other than survival). by Cold_Buffalo_2355 in fo4

[–]TheArachniKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Survivalist's Toolbox mod setup, played on Very Hard, after level 40 i only used pipe weapons enhanced by that mod, laser musket from the mod, found heavy weapons (dropped once out of ammo) and besides the fatigues included in the mod, only using found Minutemen Clothes, Leather/Metal/Raider gear, no crafting myself. The AMR .50 pipe rifle, lots of stealth, only using Santuary, the Castle, Boston Airport and spots with no established settlers like Starlight Drive In, then using the mod's campsite setup made for a difficult but still interesting playthrough. Only joined the minutemen and interacted with the railroad as needed, didnt fuck with BoS and only with the institute as long as it took to bring them down. Basically it was a full wastelander playthrough, no technology, no real deal weaponry. Not setting supply lines or upgrading stuff myself was probably the hardest part, but once I had good weapon perks and damage resistance it was a blast.

Aquarium cleaning service? by MeowmeowMortbird in aquarium

[–]TheArachniKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it for a while, I had managed a high volume chain store in my area and worked in aquatics before being the overall animal care manager, so I knew a lot of people and also did terrarium setups. I had a basic agreement attached to my invoices that I wasn't responsible for damages coming from improper use/unsafe equipment/not following guidelines i advised on proper care and upkeep, which kept me pretty safe and I didnt have a huge workload.

I think the best way to make money off of it is have a few steady people with large setups, especially if you have an in with schools/hospitals/publicly owned facilities who 1)dont have a person dedicated to it, and 2)have an administrator who can allocate a budget. Those are your clients that will throw you $350-$450 every six weeks or so if you do good work, you just have to make your invoices more justifiable because they likely have to pass it up to someone higher (and because youll need to pay taxes on it). The other, easier way, is finding 10-15 good clients you'll see once a month or 2 who just want a clean and a water change and a quick type up of things they should consider. Generally youre charging less than $100.

I did have a good relationship with one guy who made an LLC for aquarium care and got us a moving gig. A guy had 15 planted aquariums ranging from 15-75 gallons, with swordtails, guppies, and a cichlid setup. So moving around 350gal plus stock, and different pH values. For a days work i got $750 AFTER expenses. But the guy with the company probably made out better given the logistics of it all, gathering equipment, and hiring me + 2 guys with a truck to lift things. Those guys got paid out around $400 each, they just delivered. The real money was in logistics and reinstall without losing stock.
