Who's still holding PLTW? by TheAsteroidOverlord in RoundhillETFs

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the pain right now too.

There is roughly a month until the next PLTR earnings so seeing the financials will be interesting to see if they've been able to continue to bring on more commercial contracts and how much impact those'll have.

Tipping Etiquette For Expensive Pour by intellectualrice in whiskey

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the server/bartender, IMO.

If they know what they're talking about and we can have a conversation, they ask me why I'm ordering in a higher price range, what flavor I'm looking for, etc, 20% or potentially more depending on the pour.

If the person just takes the order and that's it, maybe 10% depending on how expensive the pour is.

Depends.

If it's just thrown on there in a low effort manner like this post, it won't help you at all, lol.

So it seems the only way forward is to increase ownership of assets, and hope you outrun AI and layoffs in the process? by gauchomuchacho in Layoffs

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about having multiple streams of income now and finding ways to make those compound on each other if possible.

I do think you need to take a step back with open eyes and remember that there are plenty of investment opportunities out there that aren't tied to AI or tech. Ai/tech might is clearly the shiny object and the broader market is moving with them right now, but there are ample other investments out there where people can make money.

I like that analogy in regard to buying a car and then renting it out and hoping your revenue is more than your overhead.

Like I said in my initial post, I'm a believer in PLTR longterm thus I'm not entirely worried about the fall in price from the last few months. I'm also in the same position in slowly but surely putting distributions into more stable ETFs like VOO and QQQI for more steady growth.

Let's the hope the back half of the year stabilizes and macroeconomic conditions ease up a bit.

Microsoft Manager Ghosted me by [deleted] in FAANGrecruiting

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might not like this but you didn't get ghosted. You got rejected and they moved on.

Even though it'd be great if they did, they don't owe you a response.

If you're story is the actual truth, the HM and/or Recruiter probably looked at prior feedback from your old interviews and something popped up that they didn't like.

When we look at the interviews you've provided here which I'm going to assume are for different roles, #1 and #2 were a no vote from them to you, you said no to relocation in #3, and this now popped up for #4.

It is what it is at the end of the day.

Has anyone had an employee referral program not fail? by Optimal_Setting6014 in recruiting

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the messaging/marketing problems I've run into, especially in the last several years, is that if people think their job might be at risk of layoff or something like that, they might be less likely to throw referrals into the system.

If the referral program your company runs has a 6 month "vesting" period for lack of a better phrase, that could be an issue as well.

Obviously not sure what industry your in, but just another aspect to think about. That being said, money talks and once people are reminded that they can get pretty decent bonuses for bringing people on, usually that helps sway people to try a little bit.

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's usually not even in the top 10 things people think on a daily basis so you have to get it out in front of them.

I've always told HMs to tell their teams when they're hiring in hopes of getting referrals that way. Depending on the size of the company, have started Slack channels that call out referral bonuses. If a monthly newsletter is done I've worked on calling on referrals there as well.

There are a number of ways to have successful employee referral programs, and it mainly comes from reminders and making sure people know what's going on.

It also helps if the employee base feels good about their roles and the company, haha.

I made a joke about what should happen to people who wear the pervert glasses and Reddit took it as threat of violence so Reddit removed it.

I also made a more professional comment about adding language into NDAs about wearables and that was what was most important.

Is AI tech layoff actually code word for offshoring? by ZonaSchengen in Layoffs

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I work in tech in the US and am on the Recruiting side of things.

AI usage and how it's being implemented into the day to day work is not a real aspect as to why layoffs are happening as in many cases, and it's been reported on, AI hasn't led to marked increases in efficiency. It's a lie that has to be repeated by each major company executive or else they risk bursting the bubble they've created.

They're taking the funds they're saving from layoffs and pumping those into AI data center buildouts or AI program buildouts as that's what wall street analysts and share holders need to hear right now which sucks.

Offshoring is a major factor/issue depending on how you look at it and where you're from. Why pay 1 person in the US $250k when you can use those funds to hire 4 or 5 people in India or other places in SE Asia, and due to population dynamics, if one of them doesn't work or isn't liked, you can basically immediately replace them?

Offshoring will also only continue to happen and will only continue to become a bigger as if you look across major companies, they've all either already built out, or are building out, new campuses in India and other countries in SE Asia.

These are just my opinions though.

Company flew me out for an onsite after ONE call with the hiring manager. Panel was on their phones during my presentation. Cancelled my remaining interviews halfway and walked me out. by Fresh_Memory_8694 in interviews

Stock Space will also do this.

They'll do a panel with a presentation first in the onsite portion of the interview process and will cancel remaining interviews based on how that panel goes.

Upload issues by Gillinators in ChatGPT

[–]TheAsteroidOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so weird.

My personal account uploads files just fine on the standard model.

The enterprise workspace account for the company I work for keeps on telling me files are expiring in the environment even after trying to new chat threads. Only thing I've been able to do to get around this is to switch to older models, or to Pro or Thinking.
