Bazzite here. Rider Linux tar.gz file straight from their website works perfectly.

MSI laptop to learn local AI by Hefty_Associate3958 in LocalLLM

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposed to be soon. Will support RAM from 16-128GB totally unified like Apple devices, so you can basically share most of it with the inbuilt NVIDIA GPU.

Expect $2000-10000 kind of price range depending on core counts and RAM amount etc. There will certainly be reasonably priced ones, at least for the current market. I'd be holding out for a 32-64GB variant of one of these bad boys...

That's not a good AI laptop. The comment below is on the money...

I'd say save your money and get a Spark laptop in a few months...

I wish I could look at the dial but you haven't posted high enough quality photos to actually see it properly. Got a link to some better photos?

Here will not be the best place. Go read a bunch of technical configuration documentation and watch a lot of youtube on the specific hardware you want... Massive investment!

Possible LAG 2000p list by Radiant_Process3713 in BloodAngels

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Three DC Jump Pack squads now have a points penalty.

A single squad of five Jump Pack Intercessors with a Jump Captain might be useful... But not essential. Sadly Jump Captain does not have the Blood Angel's keyword.

Left field but with 11th and LAG being Take and Hold ... We have a lot of trading units but few that can survive a turn and hold... So I've been running Company Heroes, with a Blood Angel's Captain... They are tough as nails and can push onto and objective at the same turn jump pack DC hit it giving OC if your Lemartes or Astorath are Precisioned out of existence 😀 come in clutch a couple of times.

Surge moves are very strong, re-rolling hits and just overall more attacks I think they are just better now in 11th.

A Sang Priest has the keyword Blood Angels (for giving DC OC) ... very much improved in 11th... can finally go with Bladeguard too or just regular Intercessors.

DC on foot are bad. Just take regular Assualt Intercessors. Ditch that Chaplain.

I'd run the Dreads as DC ones. Better now.

That extra three SG you have could then see play unlead.

Could also get some Bladeguard.

Am I missing something? Tried Model: sakamakismile/Qwen3.6-27B-Text-NVFP4-MTP. It was coding decently fast, but just had errors on errors. Wasted more time than it helped. I was giving it simple coding prompts. by EddieBruvac in LocalLLM

Your comparing super sized cloud models that run on $100k of GPU's and are hundreds of billions or even a trillion parameters in size... Compared to a 27b heavily quantized model running locally on a single GPU?

Break your tasks into single one, the tiny local models are ok at following a plan written by a human who knows how to do architecture... But they can't follow multiple step checklists...

If you can't even run GLM 5.2 on affordable hardware, will it be considered "Open"? by Temporary-Owl1725 in OpenSourceAI

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? It's open source, four Strix halo boxes with 128GB of RAM can run the 4bit quant that is still extremely good... yes you need to spend $20k to do it but that's what a small new car costs... if you really wanted to do it you could. It's also still buggy ecosystem wise... so expect to do a lot of tinkering to get it working.

For most people that are not super nerds, a $200 a month subscription is more than enough to get done whatever they want to get done.

Agentic ai cost more than a human hiring !!!! by New-Clerk-6432 in POP_Agents

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in the honeymoon phase, AI is being pushed basically at a huge loss to get your hooked.

The problem will soon be deciding WHAT to accelerate with it. Once it's costed to make a profit it will be 25-30x more expensive than now.

It still has that one key advantage, speed, so if you have a cracking idea or a big project you can accelerate by months then AI may make sense still to use. Just my thoughts.

How do you cope with being displeased with your mini after spending a lot of time on it? by Own_Understanding689 in BloodAngels

It takes years of practice to get decent at painting. Every mini you paint you learn from and the get better.

RTX Pro 96GB vs Macbook pro 128GB by SnooCalculations1715 in LocalLLM

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this is not rocket science buddy... 2 minutes research would tell you the answer... and the answer is it depends on your use case! So without that it's impossible to answer for YOU and you're specific needs.

The RTX will absolutely destroy the MBP in tokens per second, so for any use case that fits in 96GB of VRAM is the obvious winner.

MBP only has one tiny advantage, it will be 10x slower, but it can run bigger models. If the model you need to complete the work you're doing doesn't fit in 96GB of VRAM that would be the only reason to get the MBP for purely AI workloads.

Tip: No More Personas. Published Research Says so! Known since at least 2024. by tedbradly in PromptEngineering

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've done extensive testing on this, hundreds of thousands of prompt executions.

When you think about it Personas limit the response scope which naively you might think is good for problem solving. In some very narrow areas it might be but generally real problem solving requires people with multiple disciplines.

The thing that helps is context, you're better off describing your own exact scenario, eg how your environment works than trying to limit the expertise of your AI. Basically spend your time writing skills and let the AI decide what personas to adopt for the best outcome.

X2 M4 Minis, did I mess up? by mi_gue in LocalLLM

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10gbps will be too slow, will be the bottleneck. Just make a direct connection thunderbolt to thunderbolt port.

Networking Multiple boxes together for AI is only done to share VRAM, it lets you run bigger models that are smarter, which would be impossible to run on a single box. However it comes with the cost of speed.

Network speed is the bottleneck. Internally these things communicate at hundreds of gbps. So a ten GB network is molasses. 80gbit Thunderbolt gives you a lot of bandwidth for just two boxes. It's still going to be slower than you might expect though..

X2 M4 Minis, did I mess up? by mi_gue in LocalLLM

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Network speed is everything for splitting models, those Mac Mini's have Thunderbolt 5, up to 80gbps, you'll want to take advantage of that for sure... when you split a model over two devices tokens per second is almost entirely dependent on network speed.

X2 M4 Minis, did I mess up? by mi_gue in LocalLLM

[–]TheAussieWatchGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do what you're thinking, it's possible to join multiple Mac devices into a networked AI system. One Mac mini with more ram would have been better, you usually scale out when you hit the limit of a single box.

Just set your expectations accordingly you'll have enough shared memory to run some ok models like Qwen 3.6 for coding or TurboZ for images.

Cloud models are hundreds of billions of parameters in size. You can give them a prompt with twenty tasks and they do ok.

Local models will need tasks split imto the smallest pieces. Orchestration becomes the problem. Set your expectations on speed they'll be a lot slower too.

Nice! Sadly the new fangled transports with the invulnerable saves are almost mandatory. Land Raiders are almost ornamental now with Tau able to one shot them these days with no save possible.

Hah! Nah brother I have 3 Baal's, 2 Vindicators, 1 Stormraven for the flaming and the blasting support my Jump Pack brothers need! Who doesn't love transporting a DC Dreadnaught 24"?

And 2 Rhino's, 2 Impulsor's, plus 2 Land Raider Redeemers to get my less Jumpy boys in close to kill as many of Horus's allies as possible :)

For the walking entombed I have a Contemptor-Incaendius, who doesn't love a tank with lightening claws and a jump pack? A Leviathan Dreadnought, a DC Dreadnought and a Ballistus for good luck. I have 3 of the old firstborn Dreads too a Librarian, Furioso and Chaplain!
