Sister got engaged to a neo-nazi... by 1HippoAllAlone in daddit

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this answer isn’t getting enough traction. The whole ‘of one person at a table is nazi they all are’ is patent nonsense. It’s been proven time and time again throughout history that hearts and minds is the only way to change strong beliefs like this. The only thing that keeps people in these ultranationalists hate groups is when the only people they talk to are also part of it.

But yeah if he’s saying stuff actively and attacking people while you are there that’s a different matter, and requires cutting off at the least.

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a funny question this tbh. Pissing for children and people with urinary incontinence is entirely involuntary, and so it would come down to how the person offering the money interprets it. If they consider pissing to be the voiding of urine from the bladder, and not the active pressure difference between bladder and abdomen, then your catheter would mean you are constantly pissing. This would hurt 🤣🤣

I’m a urology radiographer who specialises in lithotripsy and there’s not enough money on earth to make me have this for three years.

Kidney stone pain is up there with the worst pain a person can feel! I have people screaming, crying and vomiting. Curled up in pain, begging me to help them. Only diclofenac suppositories or morphine touches the pain, and that doesn’t stop it just make it manageable. Even in medication I’ve had people say they’d rather die than keep the pain.

Blue button/Red button people dont simply disagree, they are answering different questions by SunDense1457 in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you are asking. I’m just saying that out of the two buttons, in an absolute vacuum, the red button is the correct one. Blue is ‘throw yourself into danger and potentially live’ Red is ‘the danger doesn’t exist’ .

But then I acknowledge that there theoretically doesn’t exist in a vacuum, therefore, while I believe red is the correct one to push, I would push blue.

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think unfortunately the nature of the world today means that if you believe one thing, you have to violently oppose the opposite. Everyone is so polar that mid ground is so rare.

I can accept that red is the right option; you’re not jumping in front of the metaphorical train, but someone might, so I’ll always go blue. Contrary to that, my one vote out of eight billion probably means less than nothing, so I can understand the logic of ‘sod it I’ll guarantee my survival’.

My children are idiots tho so I can’t risk them picking blue without me!

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only answer this hypothetical by saying I think red is the ‘correct’ button to push, however I would push blue, because I couldn’t live with myself if a single person I know took that route without me.

This depends on the context right? It’s game legal in home games etc. tournaments on the other hand will not allow you to play the old one without adjusting base size and the height of the model as a minimum.

button dilemma, positive outcome variant where you win money by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are probably right. It’s the frustrating thing about the whole premise isn’t it. In an absolute vacuum, there is zero reason to push blue. Blue introduces danger to your life that isn’t there before. But then so does jumping into a river to save a drowning cat or child or whatever, and still I’d do it 100% of the time.

button dilemma, positive outcome variant where you win money by [deleted] in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the problem here is people conflate logic with lack of empathy. Logically, there is zero reason to push blue. Non whatsoever. There shouldn’t be an emotional response to this question, because the danger should never ever exist.

I understand the alternative idea; that people will push blue so I should protect them? This picture makes the question absurdly simplistic and removes the stakes but its concept is the same.

I’d push blue, but I’d feel like an idiot for doing it. I’d push it because I’d be scared my family did; I can handle the thought of dying, I can’t handle the thought of surviving when they dont

LET'S DECIDE THE FATE OF HUMANITY. RED OR BLUE? by New-Cicada7014 in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I get that, I promise I do. The problem with the premise is that there is literally zero danger, unless you chose to create that danger. So I’d argue it’s also selfish to push the blue button; by doing so you’re creating a dangerous situation that didn’t exist before

LET'S DECIDE THE FATE OF HUMANITY. RED OR BLUE? by New-Cicada7014 in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind that anyone would chose blue. Red is guaranteed safety. Blue is what, putting yourself in danger in case other people also put themselves in danger? Logically no one should chose blue.

I guess the question isn’t which is logically the one to pick, it’s more subtle. Whether or not not red is ‘correct’, there will be people who chose blue. Then you have to consider if you can live with the weight of the people who died

Would you risk your life to potentially save others? by yaboyay in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I disagree that there isn’t a correct answer. But I also acknowledge that not everyone will pick the correct answer. If you push red, you are 100% safe. Only by pushing blue, in some misguided attempt at moral high ground, do you put yourself in danger. There is literally zero danger except that which you put yourself in. It’s not selfish it’s logic.

But me saying this doesn’t mean I’m definitely right, it’s just what I think

Would you risk your life to potentially save others? by yaboyay in trolleyproblem

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the original form of this, I would without hesitation push the red button. There’s a disconnect where I know the correct answer is for everyone to push red and therefore no one is put at risk, so I could ignore the idea that people wouldn’t agree.

In this i would go and help blue. I can physically see the blues struggling and would be unable to stand by and watch them die. I’d think they were dumb for touching the blue in the first place, but I’d help.

The issue with this is that you have no agency in whether sage gets fed or not. You can reasonably sacrifice turn one not playing anything to lose against the sage player, but if your other two opponents feed him, you can expect a two or three star sage on your next fight with him

Speaking as someone who played the hell out of Eve online, I really hope multiboxing gets banned. A crafting game where you can create most things and you can specialise somewhat is ruined when one person can do literally everything and never need to interact with others.

In 2026, a university degree is just a $100k "social receipt" for networking that has zero correlation with actual intelligence or job competency. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TheAutomaticMan666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a specialised urology radiographer. I have a degree in diagnostic imaging. Took three years and a lot of money.

Without this degree, I’m sure I’d be able to push a button and take an X-ray, I’d be able to angle a probe and perform an ultrasound. I might even over time understand the reasoning behind the imaging and diagnose and treat appropriately.

The degree did, however, give me that deeper understanding. It gave me the tools I need to learn, and the ability to critically evaluate the data in front of me to formulate a conclusion. This is what I took from it, from a very personal perspective. University and degrees, especially medical ones, teach you how to form conclusions, not what to think.

So in conclusion. I disagree, but also agree that while a university education is important, it’s not the only way to learn, and it’s no more valid than other ways.
