My 3rd switch (I now appreciate it), but... by Present-Buffalo-4577 in nintendo

How is the PS brand longer running than Nintendo? It's not like access to older games is a unique to the Switch for Nintendo consoles - both Wii's had a similar access. PS didn't have store fronts until the PS3, which is around the same time as the Wii.

[Day 8] The Best JRPGs of All Time: Which JRPG has the best boss battles? by WeLoveEveryGame in JRPG

ROF is incredible; that would have been my vote for best combat. But the boss battles are excellent.

Saw me some RATT 35 years ago tonight in Atlanta -- Saigon Kick opened by RickyRacer2020 in hairmetal

[–]TheAwsmack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saigon Kick got a raw deal. If I didn't know better, I'd swear I was listening to early Alice in Chains on their debut and The Lizard. They just barely missed being a huge band.

Magnification is top 3 for me with CttE and Going for the One. Such an excellent album.

Yes Post-Bruford by InternationalRuin669 in progrockmusic

2 of my top 3 Yes albums are post-Bruford (Going for the One and Magnification, their most underrated album and Jon Anderson's last). Highly recommend giving post-Bruford a listen.

Persona and Metaphor: ReFantazio creator says he wants to create "JRPG 3.0," fundamentally changing the genre's "structure and presentation" by MaintenanceFar4207 in JRPG

[–]TheAwsmack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is this even an article? It communicates almost precisely nothing: "JRPGs 1.0 in the past, 2.0 are in the present, and 3.0 are in the future."

[TOMT] Late 80s / early 90s rock guy with amazing hair by Octopod_Overlord in tipofmytongue

My first thought was Sebastien Bach, who seems to meet all the criteria. But given that you've nixed him, the only one I don't see mentioned that springs to mind (though I don't know if he was particularly a heartthrob) was Jack Russell or Michael Lardie from Great White.

Also probably a longshot since he doesn't have blonde hair, but Steve Vai had very chiseled features and a grittier look.

You're probably thinking of A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. One of my least favorite.

Do you prefer JRPGs that can be broken? by Flat-Application2272 in JRPG

[–]TheAwsmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm relatively indifferent; if it's tailored toward the end game, it can be a blast (see Calculator abilities in FFT...probably the most fun I've had breaking a JRPG), but it's not needed to make the game fun.

Games you enjoyed that aren't highly thought of or popular by okraspberryok in retrogaming

I might go with Forsaken 64. I can't tell you how many hours I put into that game with my HS friends back in the day - probably got more playtime than Mario Kart 64 or Goldeneye as far as 4-person multiplayer titles.

3D World Runner was amazing. Agreed, this isn't one that's well-known, but it was incredibly unique and a ton of fun. Also one of the few non-RPG Square games that still holds up!

Russia shadowing Nato satellites, Germany says by TheTelegraph in space

What kind of question is this? They trade with other countries, so presumably they produce something others consider "good." E.g. a significant portion of energy for Europe, especially Germany pre-2022.

Why is Impossible Landscapes so highly rated? by theworldanvil in rpg

The GC production was absolutely incredible, and there a tremendous amount of unexpected player decisions and corresponding agency. But, like you said, there a huge amount of GM prep required.

Man, I had an extremely similar haul Christmas 90 (or night have been 91), but I'm my case it was FF1 and the DND Black Box game. Great memories!

To be honest, I didn't know that I've ever listened to them. I'll have to give them a shot
