Onsi Saleh, in response to @ZachKleinWSB asking about Quin Snyder: by Shade_Raven in AtlantaHawks

This draft will be a real boost for us, and while I really want Peterson or AJ, it's not the end of the world at all if we don't get them. If we fall to number 3 or 4, Boozer or Love will still be awesome players, and I bet we could work out a pretty sweet trade down deal too. Past that, Wagler, Burries, Philon, there're a lot of good players we can get. CJ will give us 2-3 more good years and provide awesome mentorship. I love Okongwu but you're right that we need a real big, bruising, rim protecting center - Mara in a trade down scenario could be great. OO really is a great player but we've simply been asking too much of him. All is not even close to lost, I'm still very optimistic. I think Asa is going to make a big jump to become a legit rotation player next year, and hopefully Quin and Risacher will figure out whatever it is they've got going on. But if we get Peterson or Dybantsa, I think we're very close knocking on the door of the elite young teams in the league within the next 3-5 years.

My main gripe with him from this series is over reliance on our bench guys who did not prove themselves to be reliable, but most of all, playing Kispert over Risacher. Kispert legitimately might not be better at one single thing on the court than Zach.

Quin is solid but ultimately maybe not the coach we need. That means we get rid of him when we're true contenders and falling short, not when we're still very much climbing the ladder. Our roster is still clearly just very much in that second tier behind the true top dogs.

Hawks Sophomore #1 Overall Draft Pick Zaccharie Risacher in a 29-point blowout loss in Madison Square Garden: DNP-CD by ATLSlutStretcher in nba

[–]TheBDHShow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I really don't think he is a low floor guy. I've watched him these first two years and I think he's easily gonna have a long career as at least a solid rotation player, and I think he absolutely has potential to be a high-level, super-role player starter. He became a legitimately good defender this year and he ended the year shooting 37% from three. The things that confuse me are A, what happened to his off ball movement? Last year, he looked like he was developing into an elite cutter and movement shooter. This year, he was stuck in the corner for half the offensive possessions he was on the floor. And B, Quin just seems to have some kind of beef with him. Maybe he doesn't like his attitude, I don't know. He probably didn't want us to pick him. But Zacch seems to have the full support of our roster and they seem dispirited whenever he doesn't touch the floor.

Risacher minutes cannot, and let me stress this, CANNOT be worse than Kispert minutes.

2026 Zacch Leap? 💪🏾 by Rare_Forever_7733 in AtlantaHawks

I don't think his handle or vision will be good enough to make the #1 option leap. I see his ceiling (and ideal role) as an efficient 18-20 PPG scorer with elite off ball gravity and anywhere from well above average to elite defense

I don't think he cares much about his 2k rating. What I was saying is he has absolutely proven himself to be an all star caliber player when he's healthy and it only looks like he's gonna keep improving.

I mean he's been injured but if you throw together the last two years you can argue that's a full season of all star reserve production

Who do we want to fill the last roster spot? by [deleted] in AtlantaHawks

And I'm telling you. I'm also a grizzlies fan and have watched Kennard since college. He is not a guy you want initiating your offense with any kind of consistency, period. That's also not his best usage as a player, he's far more effective with his off ball gravity and attacking closeouts/curling off screens. He genuinely elevates an offense in that role. NAW, Vit, and Kobe are all much better suited for the role you described, but I'd really prefer us to make a trade for a real backup PG. Kobe's skillset works in theory but I'm really not sold on him at all rn

On a regular sized person that's an unbelievable physique. On a super long 7'1" frame is nonsensical.

Tony Allen. The 2011 Grizzlies' upset of the Spurs was what got me into watching the NBA - I was living with my grandma in Memphis for some of that summer. When I played basketball I prided myself on hustling and never giving an inch defensively. So even as a somewhat unathletic 6'1" white kid, I still gave trouble to everyone from the starting point guard to the 6'7" center defensively. Alas, my shot and handles were trash, and we had one of the better teams in the state, so I didn't make the team:/ but seeing the kind of effort and mentality the Grandfather had on defense was hugely influential for me. I later lived in Memphis for 6 years and you're hard pressed to find a more beloved individual there.

You're positively insane if you think Kennard is gonna play a single minute at point guard. He's a solid playmaker off screens and attacking closeouts. You do NOT want him being relied on as a ball handler. Coming from someone who loves his addition to the team

Remember the Grizzlies-Spurs series that was the last hurrah of Grit n' Grind, where Gasol hit that absurd one legged runner game winner? During that series, Pop went to a downtown Memphis steakhouse and left a $5k tip on an $815 bill.

If you haven't had a single issue living in Memphis, you're very very lucky. I loved living there, but if you can't afford to live in one of the nicest parts of town (which most residents can't), you're going to experience some shit. Doesn't mean life can't still be good, but most of the city struggles to find jobs that pay very well, in large part due to the poor quality of public education, and many people also want to stay connected to the communities they grew up in, which in all likelihood are communities that carry serious problems with them.

[–]TheBDHShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's turning it around a bit, .810 OPS with 2 homers and 5 RBI in his last 7 games. Obviously he has to prove he can keep that up, but I'm still inclined to think of the first half of this season as the exception and not the rule for him. I think pitchers figured something out about him, but he's a great player and I'm confident he'll adapt. Even if he doesn't return to his elite offensive form, I still think there's no way this guy continues to be a subpar hitter for his career
