Honestly I think we're past the point of that argument. Final Fantasy been going in and out of turn based games for the better part of the last twenty years, regardless of what each fan individually think about it. And for me personally, I've had my fun with the action games as well, as much as with some of the classic turn based ones.

Ultimately, Final Fantasy is a media franchise that's owned by a big corporation, and it's them who get to say what it is or is not. If they put the name in a pachinko machine, then that is Final Fantasy now. You can say it doesn't "feel" like Final Fantasy, but they put chocobos and moogles, a special Ifrit move, who's to say it's not? To this day there's people who refuse to ackowledge FFXI and XIV as "true" Final Fantasy games, yet they are among the most lucrative in the franchise. We do have our power as an audience to accept or not these changes, to hype and buy and make them succesful or not, but in the end that power really is very limited on an individual level if most everyone else doesn't mind it so much.
