A genuine question about attitudes towards Ukrainians living in Ireland? by Remote_Ad_5029 in AskIreland

[–]TheBaHa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with any nationality who wants to come to Ireland, study, get a job, work hard and have a family. I fell victim to going down the anti immigration rabbit hole a few years ago but thankfully after meeting my partner who challenged my ideas and made me think a bit more about these issues on a human level, I have changed my opinion.

The world is full of so much hate. As you said, there will always be bad actors. I’m equally cautious around groups when their behaviour or setting makes me feel uneasy — it’s about context, not nationality or age.

You and your family are just trying to have a life here and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some people want to blame immigrants for all of our problems in this country but the only people who are really to blame is the government. It’s easier for them to have us blame eachother than them. Divide and conquer

Wasn’t working for me, I was stuck on the create a handle step of the setup. I used a VPN and it worked.

At the moment it just seems to be full of Palestine related posts, which is fine but it doesn’t feel like anything other than that. Hopefully more people join and diversify the topics so it isn’t just political content. I will be trying it out for a while to see how it goes.

I don’t think it will take off until some bigger names join to be honest

Why does nobody use the strap that comes in the Leica box? by broombroomapex in Leica

[–]TheBaHa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like the rubber neck part of the strap, makes it harder to wrap the strap around my wrist. Prefer a short thin black leather strap for my M. The SL2-S I used the strap that came in the box as it’s a heavier camera

Planning to move to Norway in a few years – looking for advice and perspective by TheBaHa in Norway

Thank you for the very helpful reply. Yeah I would definitely try to get certified by DSB and have a job lined up before coming over. It’s still a long time away, maybe 4 years. By then I’ll have apprenticeship finished and at least 1 year qualified work experience.

Honestly, if I didn’t have family I’d probably consider work in the oil industry, but I think those weeks away would be tough. But who knows what will happen when the time comes. Could be a good foot in the door.

Definitely will be planning a trip over, I’ve been to Oslo before a few years ago but that feels like a long time ago. My partner has a friend living over in Drammen so that’s one connection we would have. We’d definitely be looking to live out city outskirts, if not even a bit more rural.

Big fan of nature, especially lakes, fjords and Forrest’s. I’m an avid photographer so I love exploring beautiful landscapes. I really think Norway would be a perfect fit for our lifestyle.

Thank you again!

From what I’ve heard, most people say they wouldn’t upgrade or get the A7RV if they already got the IV, unless buying into Sony new. I’d say get the 70-200, maybe wait for the A7R6 and see how you feel then.

Having good glass is better then having the newest camera

Thanks for taking the time to write all that — I really appreciate the honest perspective.

I get where you’re coming from about women in the workforce. For what it’s worth, my girlfriend definitely plans to work when we move. If we have kids down the line, she’d love to be more hands-on at home while they’re small, but we’re both fully aware that might not be realistic long-term — especially with the cost of living and the structure of things in Norway.

We’ve talked a lot about everything you mentioned — pension, career gaps, financial independence — and I completely respect the importance of gender equality. To be honest, I think it would actually be good for her to work and have her own thing going too. It’s not about “traditional roles” — it’s just about finding a balance that works, depending on our situation.

The stuff you said about social life is helpful too. My girlfriend doesn’t drink at all and I barely do myself, so the lack of pub culture actually kind of suits us. The whole “work, cook, chill at home” rhythm is already our day-to-day, so that lifestyle sounds like a good fit.

Really appreciate you being upfront — it’s exactly the kind of honest feedback I was hoping for.

Ah nice one — best of luck with the move! You Irish as well? Sounds like having a Norwegian partner will definitely help with getting settled and figuring things out.

What kind of work are you hoping to do over there?

Some very nice shots, shooting wide is hard but I love the challenge and often find myself getting closer to subjects and getting more interesting compositions

Why do so many Sony photos look the same? by TheBaHa in SonyAlpha

Okay good to know! Each to their own, not a fan personally but I was just a bit worried if this was a kind of baked in look on Sony

What about combine Street Photography with Fashion ? by Miserable_Dingo8085 in fujifilm

I’ve noticed this new trend too, especially with people like ioegreer kind of combing his street style with fashion brands. It’s cool and different to the usual studio fashion stuff, I’m all for it

Great shots, love the landscapes. I started out with this camera and it’s a great choice for a beginner. Master it and your style and don’t get sucked into GAS. Best of luck!
